Psyopus are ready to unleash their 3rd onslaught of mind-bending technical metal songs. Odd Senses is the title and there’s little doubt that this album will solidify Psyopus as one of the leaders in the realm of all things tech.

Continuing in the spirit of their two previous releases (Ideas of Reference (2004) & Our Puzzling Encounters Considered (2007)), Odd Senses perpetuates the Psyopus mission statement of reinventing and expanding the boundaries of extreme music and attempting to rejuvenate the hearts and minds of its listeners.

The lyrics cover subject matters such as possession, co-dependency, abuse, torture, panic, hatred, and the shattering of one’s ego, gender, and sanity. The music explores all ranges from controlled noise, stop-on-a-dime melodic precision, extreme manipulation of expectations, innovative techniques, miserable drama, and blinding intensity. With over an hour of music, Odd Senses taps into one part cutting edge tech metal album, one part Pig Destroyer EP, one part chamber ensemble and five parts LSD hang over, all adding up to what the band believes to be as an unprecedented interpretation of extreme music’s possibilities. Sonically, the amalgam of genres and subgenres, ranging from jazz to metal and beyond, will no doubt garner the admiration of music aficionados and metal heads alike.

The band’s foundation lies within the unorthodox guitar work of Christopher “Arpmandude” Arp. Bolstering the lineup is bassist player Mike Horn, a 24 year old freak of nature from just outside of the Washington, DC area. Mike graduated from The Shenandoah Conservatory with a degree in Arts Management with a minor in jazz bass along with two years of classical bass training at the institution. Mike has since been institutionalized into the Psyopus School of Music alongside the relatively new talent in the form of University of Buffalo’s Percussion Major, Buffalo, NY’s own, Jason Bauers, and upstate New York’s As This Body, I Exist front man, Brian Woodruff.”

Since the release of Our Puzzling Encounters…, Psyopus has spent time on tour with Cannibal Corpse, Job for a Cowboy, The Acacia Strain, The Red Chord, The End, Melt Banana, Dying Fetus, Fuck the Facts, The Network & Today is the Day, just to name a few. The band also headlined the CMJ Metal Blade, Relapse, and Lifeforce Records showcase in New York on October 22nd, 2008 and is set to kick off the release of Odd Senses with the Kill ‘Til Oblivion Tour January through February alongside label mates Cattle Decapitation, and fellow extreme metal acts Book of Black Earth and Gigan.

Odd Senses was recorded during July and August of 2008 at Watchmen Studios with Doug White at the helm.
