BORN FROM PAIN was founded in the summer of ’97 and was one of the first European bands to play the crossover metal/hardcore brand of heavy music. Born From Pain grew up in a musical environment filled with mid-80’s Bay Area & German thrash metal, NY hardcore, 90’s Florida death metal, UK/Birmingham death metal, NYC crossover, and the budding US/European metalcore scene. Bands like Merauder, Stigmata, Earth Crisis, All Out War, Bolt Thrower, Obituary, Integrity, Testament, Slayer, early Agnostic Front and Crumbsuckers were of infinite influence on the members as the fuse that sparked the band was lit that summer.
In the 10 years of their existence, Born From Pain have spent countless weeks on the road working to win over metal and hardcore fans across the globe. After releasing their first mcd Immortality in 1999, the band quickly followed up with their first full-length cd, Reclaiming The Crown, in 2000. Numerous supporting and headlining shows followed. The band’s second full-length, Sands Of Time, was released in 2002. The album received tremendous feedback everywhere and brought the band to a new level. Again, extensive touring with the likes of Hatebreed, Madball and the Resistance Tour followed. The year 2004 saw the band embark on overseas tours in the US and Japan. The band earned the attention of larger labels and in 2005 their third cd, In Love With The End, was released on Metal Blade Records. The band spent the next year and a half touring alongside bands including: Hatebreed, Napalm Death, Six Feet Under, and appeared at several festivals including: Wacken Open Air, With Full Force Open Air, Waldrock Festival, Pressure Fest, Hell Fest and numerous other larger and smaller festivals all over Europe. The band even had the chance to tour South America. Born From Pain quickly followed up with the critically acclaimed War in 2006, followed again by near constant touring.
Born From Pain have always kept the backbone of their sound intact; brutal grooves, murderous, fast riffing and a knack for the most aggressive breakdowns. They never gave in to trends that came and went in heavy music. They have always felt that lyrics that represent feelings of anger, frustration, melancholy and social criticism, work best over riffs that hit you like a freight train at full speed. The band presents only honest, authentic and straight forward music.
Born From Pain are not, and never were, in it to be the most trendy or cool band. They exist to express feelings harbored by many in the scene – the anger with daily life, social unrest, emotional hardship and the murder of the world as we know it. Negativity, anger and frustration are feelings that no one can truly hold back, but they believe that we can use those feelings and turn them into something positive at the very least on a personal level.
After vocalist Che left, the band regrouped and came out stronger with original band member (and former BFP bassist) Rob Franssen on the microphone. Rob had formerly sung for Feeding The Fire, Bloodsport, Wheel Of Progress and Backdraft. New drummer, Roy Moonen (ex-37 Stabwoundz), replaced the nerve damaged Roel who was physically unable to continue. Andy (ex-The Setup) took Rob’s spot on bass. With a new and even more infuriated vocal style, Born From Pain adds an entirely new dimension to their sound.
Survival features Born From Pain as musically uncompromising as ever with their own twists on grooves, melody, heaviness and harshness. Lyrically, the band is making a statement about the state of the world today. They are trying to take the things to a different level to get people to think about truth “in an age of lies”.
“We are lied to every day by people in power and are told to be subversive and submissive when there is so much to be angry about. Search for truth! In the US it is especially important with a new administration of power coming up to REALLY look what these people stand for and what the eventual results will be when they come to power. However, the US doesn’t differ from any other region on this planet when it comes to that aspect.”
Born From Pain are not trying to offer a solution for the state of the world today, but try to hand out food for thought so people can make up their own minds about who threatens who and who and what is really at danger here…
“The world is more than ever in a state of disarray and chaos. The powers that be do not seem to care about the people they claim responsibility for and continue to feed their wealth. Nature is raped. People are regularly mislead. Crisis after crisis, year after year, day after day…chaos is unleashed on humanity to create new order and give a false sense of security in a world that is slowly turning into a prison. Semi-fascist laws are passed under the veil of terrorism and world peace to legally control what needs to be controlled: the power of the people. This world is turning into a battleground in many ways. People are pushed to survive in a world that is structurally becoming more grim and vicious. Where will this end? What does all of this mean? The sign of times to come. The writing is on the wall. Prepare for the hour of chaos! Survival state of mind!”
