TÝR recruits George Kollias to track drums on new album

TÝR, hailing all the way from the Faroe Islands, are currently recording their new album with producer Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Aborted, Mercenary) at his studios in Denmark. For drum tracking on this album, TÝR has enlisted the services of George Kollias, one of metal’s most accomplished drummers, primarily known for his work in Nile, as well as Nightfall. A video featuring drum tracking highlights, as well as a short message from Kollias, is streaming now on youtube HERE.

George Kollias comments on the experience: “Hey Týr fans, this is George Kollias and I hope you are ALL ready for a crushing new album from Týr!!! I had the pleasure to record the drums on the new album, we had an absolutely great time in the studio and I gotta tell you, the material is super strong and catchy, I’m 100% sure you will all love this new album!! Big thanks to Heri, Terji and Gunnar for the opportunity and to Jacob Hansen for his incredible work with the recordings!”

A recent announcement on the TÝR facebook page has confirmed that the band has parted ways with drummer Kári Streymoy. The band commented on the amicable split:“We regret to inform you that Kári Streymoy and the rest of the band have parted ways. Kári suffered a back injury in 2008, and since then he has had some issues with his drumming. That is the main reason that the co-operation has been problematic for some time now, and we finally decided to part ways. We want to thank Kári for his time in the band. It’s been great to have you with us, we wish you the best of luck in the future and we hope you recover fully some day.”

This album will be the band’s seventh full length effort. One of the new tracks, “The Lay of Our Love”, will feature a duet with TÝR vocalist Heri Joensen and Liv Kristine from Leaves Eyes. In an update on facebook.com/leaveseyesofficial, Kristine announced:

“Dear Viking-Metal Fans & Friends,
I am very happy to announce that I will be joining Týr for the duet THE LAY OF OUR LOVE on their up-coming album (title still to be revealed), which is set to be released this Fall. Heri already joined Leaves’ Eyes at our headliner show in Wacken Open Air 2012. This was an absolute highlight during our live performance, moreover, I really like his voice and I am grateful for the invitation. Whitechapel’s debut full-length album, The Somatic Defilement, is the record that firmly planted the band on an upward trajectory that has carried them to the upper echelons of modern death metal. The Somatic Defilement, originally released in 2007, is a concept album about Jack the Ripper’s infamous murders of prostitutes in East London’s Whitechapel district. BATTLECROSS discuss recording at Audiohammer Studios

Confirm performance at this year’s GWAR BQ!

Detroit, MI’s BATTLECROSS has completed work on their second album for Metal Blade Records. The title, track-listing, as well as music and behind the scenes studio videos are being readied for public consumption. Until then, BATTLECROSS has shared a few photos from their time at Audiohammer Studios, as well as some thoughts on the recording process with famed producer Mark Lewis (The Black Dahlia Murder, Trivium, Whitechapel, DevilDriver).

Since its inception in the early 2000′s, Audiohammer Studios has grown to become one of the go-to studios for metal acts worldwide. The facilities and talent behind the production turned out to be the perfect fit for BATTLECROSS. Guitarist Hiran Deraniyagala explains: “I was extremely excited about recording our next album but I didn’t know what to expect coming into Audiohammer. There was a lot of pressure on us, but we delivered! Our efforts would not have produced the same results without the masterminds of Mark and Eyal. I haven’t stopped listening to it and I can’t wait for the world to hear it!”

Guitarist Tony Asta adds:
“We really pushed ourselves on the new album. Working with Mark and Eyal at Audiohammer was learning experience for me, especially while honing my lead guitar parts. The album came out light years ahead of my expectations and I’m proud to say I had a part in it. The recording process was different than I was used to but I really like their approach. The laid back atmosphere, mixed with the deliver or be delivered expectations, really inspired me to do my best.

On the low end, over-the-top bass guitar phenom, Don Slater, offers up his thoughts on the process:
“What makes recording an album almost seem effortless is the environment and professionalism you are working with; Eyal Levi and Mark Lewis at Audiohammer are prime examples of this in top-notch form. As laid back as their approach is to their craft, it enables unbroken focus to the project by not fogging things up with unwanted stress. I simply couldn’t have asked for a better team of gentlemen to work with, and the almost random cameos by Jason Suecof were a treat as well. These guys know exactly what they are doing, and it shows in their work, namely our upcoming release. Also, knowing the caliber of musicians they’ve worked with drove me to do the very best I could for this album, inspiring me to think outside the typical bass box. Our experience with Audiohammer not only pushed us to make the best damned album possible, but also made a better musician of myself. I can’t thank them enough.”

Sweden’s ELDKRAFT have launched a new song from their debut album, Shaman, exclusively via LastRit.es! The site, which was formerly known as metalreview.com, is streaming Patterns now HERE.

Poison Tongue founder/PRIMORDIAL singer A.A. Nemtheanga on his latest signing: “I was turned on to Eldkraft by Mortuus from Marduk and instantly recognized even in its raw demo form, here was something genuine, and it had the potential to be a massive pagan metal album. Not the cartoon stuff but the real deal, immersed in ancient shamanism and traditions with the spirit of Bathory somewhere deep in its bones…Eldkraft!”

ELDKRAFT is a musical constellation whose primary foundation rests on epic metal while drawing experimental influences from ancestral musical traditions of the North and spiritual guidance of its hermetic crafts. Shaman, the debut album, is a psychedelic trip gazed upon through contemporary elements, circumnavigating journeys of knowledge, growth and the ecstasy of the soul.

2011 was the year when J. Sandin and H. Karlsson chose to embark on a different path, having reached the end of the line with previous projects and bands. After hearing demo recordings, Metal Blade saw the potential of ELDKRAFT and expressed immediate interest.

With a record deal firmly in place, ELDKRAFT immortalized ten songs for their debut album in their own studio Epidemic, while N. Fjellström recorded the drums in studio Necromorbus. Mixing and mastering was completed under the watchful eye of Magnus Devo Andersson of Endarker Studio Sweden.

ELDKRAFT’s debut album, Shaman, will be released the 24th /27th of May, 2013 in Europe and on May 28th in North America via Metal Blade Records.

Formed in 2009 by vocalist/guitarist Toby Wright, Age of Taurus was initially a one-man doom metal mission. Inspired by masters of the craft like Candlemass, Trouble and Revelation, the project was intended more as a studio affair rather than something more alive. However, after increasing interest in the band and a succession of glowing reviews of debut demo ‘In the Days of the Taurean Empire’, Toby decided that there was no turning back and duly put together a fully working line up; enter bassist Richard Bruce, lead guitarist Alastair Riddell and drummer Darius Claydon.

The band quickly began writing together and started to develop and define a sound that suited their combined musical direction. With their feet still firmly planted in the doom metal field, the group were able to explore other paths of influence, particularly bass-driven seventies hard rock and the oh-so-punishing twin guitar attacks that ruled the speakers during NWOBHM’s golden years.

Produced by Jaime Gomez Arellano (Angel Witch, Hexvessel, Ghost), Desperate Souls of Tortured Times is a 42 minute collection of material written during their transition over the past three years. It’s an unashamedly heavy voyage down a road less travelled, where each of the seven songs acts as a chapter from an altogether longer tale. Monstrous, mountain-shaking riffs are order of the day in the Empire, stepping aside only for Riddell’s searing leads to take hold, whilst the lock-tight Bruce/Claydon rhythm section underpins all. Heading the charge from centre stage, Wright’s lyrics act as a vivid narrative, painting pictures of ancient ritual and sprawling landscapes, somewhat reminiscent of Manilla Road and Brocas Helm in their prime. Some might assume that DSOTT is a concept album, however in reality, Age of Taurus is more like a ‘concept band’, intent on delivering undiluted and intriguing heavy metal to all that will listen.

So come one, come all and let your eyes and mind be open to a long-forgotten era; the Age of Taurus…

CATHEDRAL’s critically-lauded final album debuts on Billboard charts

CATHEDRAL’s The Last Spire was released last week in North America and serves as the final entry in the band’s vastly influential, decade-spanning career. Lee Dorrian explains that he feels “comfortable leaving The Last Spire as our legacy. The funeral of Cathedral has been a long but gratifying process. Deciding to end the band wasn’t an easy decision to make but we knew deep down in our hearts that it was the right thing to do.”

Fans have responded and The Last Spire debuted on several Billboard charts this week: #24 on the Heatseeker Chart, #44 on the Current Hard Music Chart, and #113 on the Independent Albums Chart. About.com proclaimed that “Cathedral will be missed, but they have left us a lovely monument to weep over” and MetalSucks.net described The Last Spire as “just that right mix of doom n’ groove that makes Cathedral, well, Cathedral”. The Last Spire is a fitting finale to a tremendous career.

Recently, CATHEDRAL launched their final music video, Tower of Silence. The video was inspired by classic cult British film institutions such as “Amicus” and “Hammer House of Horror,” and was shot on location during the British Winter of 2012 at Gunnersbury Park Tower, London. It features a guest appearance from Purson’s Rosalie Cunningham, who places a symbolic black orchid on the tombstone of each member in the clips closing scenes. Directed by UK based Paraffin City Productions, Tower of Silence will be the last full production promo video ever made by this British doom metal institution.

Antarctic rock-gods GWAR have finally announced the ticket info for this year’s GWAR-B-Q, located at Hadad’s Water Park in Richmond, VA. This year sees the event entering its fourth consecutive year while offering its most bone-crushing line-up yet, setting the stage for what will certainly be the most massive GWAR-B-Q in the history of the human or any other race!

There will be three levels of tickets sold and all tickets will be available ONLY on the GWAR-B-Q website. Ticket info is as follows:

Today GWAR continues in their tradition of reuniting classic bands to play at the GWAR-B-Q, with the addition of the X-Cops! That’s right, the original lineup featuring Lt. Louie Scrapinetti (Mike Derks), Cadet Billy Club (Mike Dunn), Patrolman Cobb Knobbler (Dave Brockie), Sgt. Al Depantsia (Pete Lee), Sherriff Tubb Tucker (Casey Orr), Mountain Bike Officer Biff Buff (Brad Roberts), Sgt. Zypygski (Bob Gorman), and Detective Philip McRevis (Dave Musel) are reuniting for one night only at this year’s GWAR-B-Q! This will serve as the bands first show since 1996.

X-Cops’s bass “man” Cobb Knobbler commented on the reunion of the band:
“I am excited to get the boys together for one last gig, especially since I have become a member of the Westboro Baptist Church.”

Sherriff Tubb Tucker Motherfucker of All Motherfuckers added:
“Alright you lowlife dirtbags, listen up! X-Cops have been hired on as crowd control for the 4th annual GWAR-B-Q. I’m here to tell all of you faggot punks that we will be in full force to put the beat down on any of you little shits that step out of line! That’s right! After years of deep cover, the original X-Cops team has been reassembled to make sure there’s no bullshit at this fine event. We will be on hand to confiscate all your drugs, accept donations to our policeman’s balls, and thoroughly pat down your girlfriends. So bring drugs, money, and women! As you were.”

Three more bands have been added to the GWAR-B-Q lineup. Fresh off their tour with GWAR, Wilson and Warbeast will be making their first GWAR-B-Q appearance. North American tour with Kylesa begins this Friday

Blood Ceremony will release their third full length album, The Eldritch Dark, on May 28th. About The Eldritch Dark:
In late 2012/early 2013, Blood Ceremony enclosed themselves within a dank, tomb-like chamber to begin preparations for their third album. After a mind-numbing spell in the analogue womb of Toronto’s ProGold Studios, the band is now ready to unveil their newest, and most accomplished, musical offering: The Eldritch Dark. The debut single, “Goodbye Gemini”, can be heard now at metalblade.com/bloodceremony.

Recorded and mixed by producer Ian Blurton (Cauldron, Cursed) and mastered by Canadian recording legend Nick Blagona (Deep Purple, Rainbow, Crazy World of Arthur Brown), The Eldritch Dark is a full-length paean to the darker corners of folklore and legend. Containing eight tracks of black magic rock ‘n’ roll, the album crackles with the excitement of a nocturnal ritual.

Tales of witch-cult gatherings in wooded glens, pacts made in torch-lit abbeys and Victorian magic are accompanied by vintage-style hard rock riffs, snaking bass lines and stirring flute melodies. Since the release of their sophomore album, Living With The Ancients, Blood Ceremony has worked hard to solidify their reputation as a worthy live act. ABIOTIC confirm shows with The Faceless in June

Florida’s Abiotic recently completed a trip to New England Metal and Hardcore Festival but won’t be staying home for long! The technical death metal newcomers that Terrorizer Magazine calls “a carefully calculated blend of brutal deathcore and groovy tech-metal” will be performing select dates in May and June. In May, fans in the southeast can catch Abiotic with label mates, Goatwhore, along with 3 Inches of Blood and Withered. In June, headlining shows beginning June 8th will lead the band up to four shows with one of the genre’s premier acts, The Faceless. These dates will run June 12-19. Many more tour dates for 2013 are current being compiled and will be announced as they are confirmed.

Prepare follow-up to “Misery Wizard”

Rhode Island’s PILGRIM has officially joined forces with Metal Blade Records! Their debut album, Misery Wizard, was released in early 2012 through Alan Averill’s Metal Blade imprint, Poison Tongue Records. PILGRIM managed to spend the majority of 2012 rattling the foundation of the underground doom scene. The band toured with Samothrace, Mares of Thrace, Primitive Weapons, headlined the Stoner Hands of Doom festival, and more. At the end of 2012, PILGRIM had the honor of performing at Metal Blade’s 30th Anniversary ScionAV label showcase. Live audio, as well as interviews from the event can be found at scionav.com. Most recently, PILGRIM performed as part of the Roadburn Festival 2013 in the Netherlands. A bootleg from that show is on youtube HERE, and features two brand new tracks.

As the Misery Wizard chapter of PILGRIM’s budding career draws to a close, the band has begun efforts to craft the follow-up to what became a critically-acclaimed debut. The new album will be recorded in May of 2013 at Emandee Studios, which is the same location utilized for Misery Wizard. More details will be posted as they become available.

BEHEMOTH motorcycle nearing completion; photos posted on-line

New album nearing completion

BEHEMOTH have been holed up in Hertz Studios working on their tenth full-length album. As the band continues to record, they have been posting images and what appear to be lyrics for portions of new songs. While BEHEMOTH crafts their new album, Game Over Cycles in Poland has been working on the first ever BEHEMOTH motorcycle. The bike is nearly complete, and photos of the steel piece of art, shot during Nergal’s recent visit to the workshop, have been posted on facebook.com/GameOverCycles.

BEHEMOTH will be embarking on the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival this summer (tickets and info on rockstarmayhemfest.com). In addition to the festival dates, two off dates have been announced, including July 9th in Grand Rapids, MI and July 29th in Louisville, KY. Fans at each show will be treated a mini-fest of sorts, with each show including Children of Bodom, Amon Amarth, Job for a Cowboy, Battlecross, and more.

THE OCEAN: Pelagial Drops In North America Tomorrow!

Pelagial, the long-awaited new maritime-themed studio endeavor from sound revolutionists THE OCEAN, is set to drop in North America tomorrow! Their deepest and most profound composition to date, Pelagial is a progressive musical journey written, recorded, mixed and to-be-performed-live as one single 53-minute piece of music. Immeasurably heavy both sonically and thematically, Pelagial submerges listeners, quite literally, through all five pelagic depth zones: epipelagic, mesopelagic, bathyalpelagic, abyssopelagic, and hadopelagic. Said Decibel Magazine in a recent review of the offering: “Where the band was once steeped in sludgy noise/metalcore with orchestral interludes, they’ve become more luxurious, experimental and textural. Pelagial…further continues that shift, working on multi-tiered levels and drawing from DEP-inspired chaos, Opeth-like moods and Between The Buried And Me genre fiddling. It’s an album that strives to be all things at once without crossing into a ‘look-at-me’ mess.”

The aquatic audio adventure begins at the surface of the ocean and plunges in synch with diminishing light and increasing pressure as one dives or sinks deeper into the ocean. Pelagial begins rather light and progressively gets heavier and slows as the band reaches the unfathomable depths of the hadopelagic zone, characterized by complete darkness and a thousandfold increased pressure as compared to surface level.

Mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Witchcraft) at Fascination Street Studios in Örebrö, Sweden, Pelagial will be released as a double CD, which includes a vocal and an instrumental version of the album and will make its way to North American shores tomorrow, April 30th, through Metal Blade Records.

In related news, THE OCEAN will return to North America as part of the 7th annual Summer Slaughter Tour, presented by Indie Merch Store, ESP and Guitar World. Comments MEMORY GARDEN on the video clip: “We spent one day in February recording the video for ‘The Evangelist’. It was all shot in a chapel which fit both the song and Memory Garden like a glove. The video contains 2 parallel stories, one with the band playing in the chapel and one where you can follow ‘The Evangelist’ and his flock of sheeps.”

The video was filmed and directed by Ronny Hemlin at ProVid film.

Doomain was released digitally April 15th via Metal Blade Records and recorded at Annoying Sound Factory & SolnaSound Recording by the band with a little assistance engineering from Mike Wead (KING DIAMOND) during the lead guitar sessions. The mix was done by Dan Swanö at Unisound.

Purson, the London-based quintet Pitchfork recently described as “eerie” and “whimsical,” is currently streaming their debut album, The Circle and The Blue Door, via Spin HERE.

The 11-song album is set for an April 30 release via Metal Blade/Rise Above Records and has been dubbed “best debut of 2013″ by Decibel Magazine with overseas outlets like Kerrang (“the best bits of ’60s and ’70s rock – think Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Cream… brought to 2013 in a sweet-smelling musical haze”), BBC (“a modern demonic sound”), Terrorizer (“their brand of gothic psychedelia is set to take 2013 by storm”) and Subterranea/Metal Hammer (“Purson are the UK’s new ambassadors for the otherworldly”) all championing the young UK outfit.

Versed in many genres of music, Matt’s experience outside of the heavy metal world brings a fresh yet classic approach to this genre-defining band. His style hearkens back to the very origins of “heavy metal” itself when heavy blues and psychedelic rock guitarists pioneered the genre in an attempt to harden rock and roll. This of course is exactly what Bobby Liebling and the original Pentagram line up did back in 1971.

Having played in a bevy of bands on the East coast, Goldsborough is most recently known as part of the acclaimed Philadelphia rock band, THE GREAT UNKNOWN.

His debut with the Ram Family, rounded out by Bobby Liebling on vocals, Greg Turley on bass guitar and Sean Saley on drums, was on April 16th, 2013 at the sold out show at Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn, NY. If that gig wasn’t special enough, the band performed songs not heard live in over 40 years! Inspired by a demand from the fans, Liebling and company pulled out rare gems, including “Be Forewarned”. In late 2012/early 2013, Blood Ceremony enclosed themselves within a dank, tomb-like chamber to begin preparations for their third album. After a mind-numbing spell in the analogue womb of Toronto’s ProGold Studios, the band is now ready to unveil their newest, and most accomplished, musical offering: The Eldritch Dark. The debut single, “Goodbye Gemini”, can be heard now at metalblade.com/bloodceremony.

Tales of witch-cult gatherings in wooded glens, pacts made in torch-lit abbeys and Victorian magic are accompanied by vintage-style hard rock riffs, snaking bass lines and stirring flute melodies. The Eldritch Dark also sees the band exploring a more folksier side of their sound; most evident in the hymn-like “Lord Summerisle” and the murderous folk-rock epic, “Ballad of the Weird Sisters”. Nineteenth century sorcerer, Oliver Haddo, makes a return appearance in the riff-hypnotic album closer, “The Magician”.

Since the release of their sophomore album, Living With The Ancients, Blood Ceremony has worked hard to solidify their reputation as a worthy live act. Beginning with a well-received showcase at the prestigious Roadburn Festival, the band capped-off a series of 2011 European dates with Sweden‘s GHOST, playing a sold-out, headline show in London, UK. In the fall of 2011, they completed their first headlining tour of Europe, which saw the band received enthusiastically by fans in Scandinavia and Central Europe. This tour culminated in a performance at the Hammer of Doom VI Festival in Wurzburg, Germany. In 2012 they were direct support for GHOST on the highly successful “13 Dates of Doom” North American tour. Later in 2012, Blood Ceremony performed at Calgary’s celebrated NOCTIS V Metal Festival.

Antropomorphia Release Video for ‘Debauchery in Putrefaction’

After having released their first ever videoclip for the song Psuchagogia in late 2012, AntropomorphiA return to the front with the second videoclip from the acclaimed album Evangelivm Nekromantia.

The videoclip for the song Debauchery In Putrefaction can be viewed from today on at THIS location! There you can also the CD and LP of Evangelivm Nekromantia.

With an album banning heading over their heads, the easiest road for the band to proceed with the project of a new videoclip would have been by providing the criticasters with exactly what they want: An overdose of gore balancing in between art and kitsch, stirring things up just the right amount. Instead, the band chose to take a different approach. Opposed to a gore obsessed videoclip, which would have been too easy, it was decided to leave a respectable amount of room for people’s own imagination. Interesting to know what the very same criticasters would make of this in their own minds. AntropomorphiA once again worked with Maurice Swinkels for this videoclip.

Vocalist/guitarist Ferry comments: “‘Evangelivm Nekromantia’ transcends further and represents much more than what critics call a gore based story, so to us the logical continuation to portray that story is one with a more darker view.”

Melodic death metal heroes AMON AMARTH are pleased to unveil the details of their ninth studio album. Titled Deceiver of the Gods, the epic offering was recorded at Backstage Studios in Derbyshire, UK, produced, mixed and mastered by Andy Sneap (Opeth, Megadeth, Exodus, Arch Enemy, Killswitch Engage). The cover art was, once again, completed by Tom Thiel and depicts a mythical battle between the Norse Gods Loki & Thor. CHURCH OF MISERY to release “Thy Kingdom Scum” on June 11th

Japan’s CHURCH OF MISERY is preparing to release their fourth full-length album. Thy Kingdom Scum will be released in North America via Metal Blade Records/Rise Above Records on June 11th. The first single from the album, as well as the brand new video for Brother Bishop, are both streaming now at metalblade.com/churchofmisery.

Thy Kingdom Scum was written and recorded by Tatus Mikami, Junji Narita, Ikume Kawabe, and Hideki Fukasawa. In 2012, after the departure vocalist Yoshiaki Negishi, Tatsu and Junji contacted the previous singer Hideki, and they decided on a reunion. Additionally, the band added guitarist Ikuma Kawabe (ex-DHIDALAH) in late May 2012.With this new line-up, they started writing and recording the new record.

After the release of Houses Of The Unholy in 2009, CHURCH OF MISERY continued to visit western countries, and embarked on several fantastic tours: Europe with EYEHATEGOD, Maryland Death Fest X, and a headlining US tour with The Gates of Slumber and Hail!Hornet. Progressive sound revolutionists THE OCEAN today present “Bathyalpelagic III: Disequillibrated” from their anticipated forthcoming new masterwork, Pelagial.

Easily their most profoundly sophisticated work to date, Pelagial is a true sonic journey written, recorded, mixed and to-be-performed-live as one single 53-minute piece of music. The concept of the album is made evident in its title, Pelagial. Purson, the female-fronted UK band that Kerrang has described as having “the best bits of ’60s and ’70s rock – think Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Cream… brought to 2013 in a sweet-smelling musical haze,” premiere the song “Well Spoiled Machine” today via Pitchfork HERE.

The London-based band’s debut album, The Circle and The Blue Door, is set for an April 30 release via Metal Blade/Rise Above Records. BATTLECROSS unveil Shannon Lucas as session drummer for new album

BATTLECROSS has completed work on their sophomore album, which will be due out this summer during their tour as part of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. Recording has been completed and the finishing touches are being applied to the tracks and art. During tracking, one of metal’s most acclaimed drummers, Shannon Lucas, stepped in as the session drummer for the album.

Lucas comments: “Being a fan of Battlecross, it is an honor to be a part of their new record. I can’t wait for the world to hear this album.”

Producer Eyal Levi adds, “I am so beyond excited for the chance to produce Shannon Lucas on the new Battlecross record. He’s one of the true BEASTS of metal drumming. The man’s skills are literally untouchable. Combine that with a badass rising star of a band and I think we’ve got the makings of a crushing record!”

As previously announced, Kevin Talley will be stepping in to play drums for the band on their two upcoming live performances, the New England Metal & Hardcore Fest (4/19) and the Orion Music & More Festival (6/08-6/09). Drummer Mike Kreger has parted ways with the band to focus on some new opportunities and attend to personal business. BATTLECROSS will announce their new permanent member once a final decision has been made.

The album, scheduled to be released in early summer, also features a guest guitar solo by Producer Jason Suecof, and will be mastered by Joey Vera of Armored Saint. Vera also mastered the band’s cover of Pantera’s ‘Hostile’, which was released as a single last summer.

The Devil’s Blood to release final album: “III: Tabula Rasa or Death and the Seven Pillars”

The Devil’s Blood announced at the beginning of 2013 that they have “returned to nothingness.” At the same time, they announced that plans had already been put into motion to release new material. The new seven song album, III: Tabula Rasa or Death and the Seven Pillars, will serve as the band’s final full-length release. A new track, White Storm of Teeth, has been made available for streaming at metalblade.com/thedevilsblood, where fans can also pre-order the album, and view the art, which was done by Manuel Tinnemans. III: Tabula Rasa or Death and the Seven Pillars will be available for purchase on iTunes April 30th, via all other digital outlets (Google Play, Amazon MP3, etc.) on May 28th, and on CD and vinyl June 11th.

SL comments on the release: “Prior to our disbanding on the 22nd of January 2013 we had been active with the pre-production of what was to be our third album. 7 songs, the complete outline of the album, had been, in humble form, recorded in my home recording studio and these demos were supposed to be the template for our studio recordings. Obviously we would never make it that far and the initial shock of that fact saddened us greatly. After but a few days we listened to this material again and decided that even though the audio quality might not be what people have come to expect from a The Devil’s Blood release, the song material was and is the best we have ever done. We came to the conclusion that these songs deserve to become a part of The Canon and that we would release them as is.

“I spent a few days gathering all the demo material together, made a very simple mix and gave the material to our friend and mentor Pieter G. Kloos to master in his studio. Here we present you with the titles of the material and the artwork which was done by Manuel Tinnemans.

“The song we have chosen to release now is “White Storm of Teeth”. More so than the other material this song speaks to the completion and transubstantiation that always follows an Occult path. Not the end of a journey but the start of a completely new one. Built around thirteen stanzas in the first part and thirteen stanzas in the second part the process of inner enlightenment through confusion and entropy and the initiation through the Death of the lower self is illustrated. This theme is rampant throughout the record and its lyrics but here it culminates and completely devours itself. After this work no words are needed and, on the album, none are offered.

“The Devil’s Blood has always been an entity that defied any fealty or thankfulness towards any earthly influence. But we as people need not hold to this paradigm any longer. We therefore wish to express our sincere thankfulness to all those who have supported this weird quest and have made the earthly woes to not work against us. You most definitely know who you are.

The bands have toured together on multiple occasions, including 2005′s Ozzfest, and 2004′s tour with In Flames. Additional support on this tour will come from Miss May I and Affiance. Debut Album, The Circle And The Blue Door, Out April 30

Purson, the female-fronted UK band that the BBC has said are “channeling the power of the psychedelic ’70s,” premiere the song “Spiderwood Farm” today via decibelmagazine.com.

The London-based band, having already made a name quite a splash overseas with their glam-influenced psych-rock, release The Circle and The Blue Door on Apr. 30 via (Metal Blade/Rise Above Records). Kerrang said singer/guitar player Rosalie Cunningham “will have you spellbound” and added that Purson‘s music is “like the best bits of ’60s and ’70s rock – think Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Cream and loads of other classic rock cats – brought to 2013 in a sweet-smelling musical haze.”

“Spiderwood Farm is about ghosts,” explains Rosalie (who is also known for her previous stint as the front woman in the all-girl goth outfit Ipso Facto). “I was looking through a copy of Sounds from 1982 when I saw a band mentioned called Spiderwood Farm. From there I thought of a song about ex-dwellers, who are, of course dead. The council is trying to evict them, but they’re not doing anything wrong.”

THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER announce “Everblack”; first track streaming now

The Black Dahlia Murder’s sixth full-length album, Everblack, will be released worldwide in June 2013. The album art for Everblack was painted by renowned artist Nick Keller and recording was completed at Audiohammer Studios (lead guitars and vocals), Rustbelt Studios (drums), and Regal Fecal (guitar and bass). Mixing was handled by Jason Suecof and Ryan Williams, mastering was completed by Alan Douches at West Westside. Trevor Strnad’s horror-inspired lyrics persist on Everblack, beginning with In Hell is Where She Waits for Me,a reference to the murder from which the band took for their moniker.

Vocalist Trevor Strnad elaborates on the lyrical concepts: “The opening track is the first actual song we’ve done about the Black Dahlia. This one is for the fans… they’ve been asking for this to happen for a long time. The story takes place at the Elizabeth Short’s rain drenched funeral, where her killer in attendance… just one of the many macabre tales woven into the fabric of Everblack. Subterranean flesh-farming vampires, vine rape, Jeffery Dahmer, amputation… it’s all here! With this sixth slab of sickness I tried my best to honor the band’s legacy and write lyrics that will keep the legions of horror fiends perspiring with fear.”

Band To Return To North America On The 7th Annual Summer Slaughter Tour

In celebration of its forthcoming release, just three weeks away, Spin Magazine is currently streaming the instrumental version of THE OCEAN‘s Pelagial in its entirety!

Written, recorded, and intended to-be-performed-live as one single 53-minute piece of music, Pelagial is a multifaceted conceptual musical voyage that begins at the surface of the ocean and plunges through all five pelagic depth zones: epipelagic, mesopelagic, bathyalpelagic, abyssopelagic, and hadopelagic. In synch with diminishing light and increasing pressure as one dives or sinks deeper into the ocean, the album begins rather light and progressively gets heavier and slows as the band reaches the unfathomable depths of the hadopelagic zone, characterized by complete darkness and a thousandfold increased pressure as compared to surface level. The tracks, or episodes, are connected by interludes of underwater sounds and samples taken from old submarine movies, which give the album a claustrophobic “Das Boot”-kind of atmosphere. “There are track marks, and there are actual songs built into this larger structure, but the whole album is a journey rather than a number of loose tracks… some riffs appear in the first two minutes of the album and then reappear 30 minutes later,” comments guitarist Robin Staps. Pelagial will be released as a double CD, which includes both vocal and instrumental versions of the album, on April 26th/29th (Europe) and April 30th (North America/world) through Metal Blade Records. In related news, THE OCEAN will return to North America this summer as part of the 7th annual Summer Slaughter Tour, presented by Indie Merch Store, ESP and Guitar World. Swedish epic Doom Metallers MEMORY GARDEN has launched the third and final single taken off their upcoming new album Doomain exclusively via the website of Germany’s leading online mag, metal.de! Click HERE to check out Daughters Of The Sea!

Doomain will be released April 12th/15th via Metal Blade Records in Europe and on April 16th in North America.

Doomain was recorded at Annoying Sound Factory & SolnaSound Recording by the band with a little assistance engineering from Mike Wead (KING DIAMOND) during the lead guitar sessions. The mix was done by Dan Swanö at Unisound.

Comments the band: “The recording of Doomain must be the most relaxed album session we’ve ever done. We recorded most of the album ourselves in our own studio and took the time we wanted and needed to get it done. Dan Swanö helped us getting the rig together and he provided us with the tools to do it and from there we did it ourselves. The lead guitar sessions were done at SolnaSound Recording by Simon & Mike Wead. When it all was done it was sent to Dan Swanö and Unisound for mix and mastering. The final album is amazing and we are so thrilled to get it out to all of you.”

Doomain will be released the 12th/15th of April via Metal Blade Records in Europe on vinyl, as a standard jewelcase-CD and as a limited Digi-CD with bonus-CD! In North America, fans will be able to purchase Doomain through their favorite digital music providers.

The bonus-disc features unreleased and rare tracks and pre-production recordings for the album Verdict Of Posterity.
