Metal Blade Records THE OCEAN to tour North America for the first time in 7+ year career!
Ambitious, powerful, stirring, epic, stunning, astounding; these are just some of the words used to describe Berlin Germany’s THE OCEAN and their latest, highly praised, release Precambrian. The band that is known for pushing the boundaries of extreme music is finally coming to North America for the first time in their 7-plus year career, starting things off with dates in Canada in mid May. THE OCEAN will then head to the US for a full tour with support coming from Lair of the Minotaur, and Kylesa (co-headliner), Intronaut, Withered, and The Destro on select dates.
THE OCEAN’s first Metal Blade release Aeolian, which came out in spring 2006, made a colossal dent in the metal scene and proved this was a band not to be ignored internationally. The reactions to the album – for the first time on a worldwide scale – were indeed amazing. The disc was ‘Album of the Month’ in the Swedish Close Up magazine, while Kerrang! called it “complex” and “mercilessly tight”, rewarding it with 4 Ks. Revolver gave Aeolian a 5 out of 5 ranking and stated: “THE OCEAN make the guitar / bass / drums axis seem monstrously huge, bringing a symphonic richness to the music without sacrificing its ear-bludgeoning quality”.
At the end of 2006, the band commenced work on Precambrian, a double album which was released November 27th 2007. Its concept and album artwork evolve around the early days of our planet, when mother earth was a hostile and uninhabitable place devoid of life and reigned by fire, sulfur and streams of red-glowing lava. The two disk CD is composed of a mini-CD with 22 minutes playing time entitled ‘Hadean/Archaean’, and a full-length CD with 61 minutes playing time, entitled ‘Proterozoic’, both referring to successive geological eras. Guests on the album include Caleb Scofield (CAVE IN, ZOZOBRA, OLD MAN GLOOM), Nate Newton (CONVERGE, DOOMRIDERS), Dwid Hellion (INTEGRITY), Tomas Hallbom (BREACH), Eric Kalsbeek (TEXTURES) and musicians from the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
“The Ocean has delivered a record that is ambitious, stirring, and musically stunning. Prepare to be swept away.” Outburn
“Ambitious and epic, dense and orchestral… the extreme-metal equivalent of Pink Floyd’s The Wall.” Alternative Press
“Full of cinematic breadth and orchestral majesty, it’s easy to get lost in the album’s 80 minutes of rhythmic sea changes and powerful riffing.” Revolver
“…The Ocean do for earth science class what Mastodon did for Melville: make learning brutal.” Decibel
“One can never accuse The Ocean of doing anything with less than 147 percent intensity… The Berlin-based progressive and experimental all-encompassing extreme music collective are known for rewriting the rules when it comes to how a metal band is supposed to operate.” Metal Maniacs
“…smoky, Badalamenti-inspired passages and heaps of classical instrumentation (‘Orosirian, ‘Calymmian’) finding a healthy home during the ascents and descents through crooned dark rock, Mr. Bungle playfulness, Neur-Isis dirges and DEP/NIN electronica. Astounding work.” Terrorizer
“This is by and large The Ocean’s finest hour… one of the best albums of 2007.” Metalreview.com
“Our jaws dropped to the floor from literally the first song of the bone-crushing first disc and remained there throughout the genre-defying, progged-out second disc… a true, bona fide ALBUM as opposed to a collection of songs.” MetalSucks.net
“If you hadn’t yet heard of The Ocean, get ready to hear a lot about them. Precambrian is amazing.” Blistering.com
Guitarist and founding member Robin Staps had this to say about touring North America for the first time:
“It's not easy for European metal bands to tour in North America and we've been wanting to get over there for a long time, so we're very happy that the extremely positive feedback that 'Precambrian' has received in Canada and the US finally makes it possible now. I am particularly looking forward to playing in Canada, a country that has spawned many bands that were very inspirational to us, bands as different as Rush, Godspeed You Black Emperor!, and Arcade Fire..."

EPICUREAN’s records release party for A Consequence of Design a major success!
Minneapolis, Minnesota’s Epicurean recently ended their long trek on the road by playing to a packed house at the band’s record release show for their Metal Blade debut A Consequence of Design, which was just released March 4th.
"After being away for so long, it was really amazing to come home and get so much support from everyone in our hometown. The scene here has always been really good to us, and I'm really glad to have them behind us!" comments vocalist John Laramy
Here’s what people are saying about Epicurean’s A Consequence of Design:
“Epicurean have put a healthy progressive flavor into a stale metal-core genre here, in what should be a much talked about release in 2008… You can't help but get pulled in by the dual Thin Lizzy/Iron Maiden styled tasty leads on "The Burden of Eternity", or the intense & intricate guitar/drum/keyboard arrangements of "Illumination"-clearly, this is a band that is not content to just deliver generic modern metal.” - seaoftranquility.org
“Most importantly what Epicurean have done is brought the keyboards, melodies, and a fantastic understanding of metal back to life in a genre that has been belittled to breakdowns and growls.” - somethingpunk.com
“A Consequence of Design is surprisingly refreshing, relying on shredding solos and undeniably catchy melodies… (A Consequence of Design) mixes keyboards, guitar shred, death metal vocals and clean, epic choruses all in under six minutes and does it in a way most modern bands can only hope to manage.” - deadtide.com
“The songs are aggressive, but very catchy. The dual guitars weave intricate riffs and solos while the keyboards add the atmosphere and symphonic elements... A Consequence of Design is an interesting debut, as Epicurean shows originality and songwriting skill.” - about.com
“Epicurean do what they do in a seriously cut-above-the-rest way. The sound they have is honed to a perfect sphere, encompassing the ideas they try to get across to the listener. Imagine mid-eighties era thrash metal but completely updated for this age and having keyboards that don’t fuck the album up. In fact the keyboards here feel interwoven with the music so they help push the song along instead of trying to create some overdeveloped sense of mood or importance like so many other bands do.” - Iann Robinson, nonelouder.com

“We are excited to get back to Europe and play a bunch of cities that we were not able to visit the last time. Europe seems to get better and better for us each time we come and we hope this time will be no exception. We’ve done many festivals in Europe, but it’s these more personal club shows where we get to play a longer set and get more intimate with our fans that we enjoy the most. Should be fun and memorable shows for all.”
Comments NEAERA drummer Sebastian Heldt:
"We are really looking forward to the dates with our friends in AS I LAY DYING. We've been gaining a bit of weight during the creative break since our last tour, so we could use a bit of exercise, hahaha. We have very fond memories of all the cities we're going to be playing and can't wait to meet our fans again. See you in the pit!!!"

HAIL OF BULLETS mixing debut album!
Holland’s new death metal gods, HAIL OF BULLETS, are currently in the process of mixing their yet to be titled debut album. Dan Swanö of Edge of Sanity fame is in charge and here’s a little update on things from drummer Ed Warby:
“Dan's working his ass off to deliver the most savage, massive and brutal mix ever and we're almost there! The first mix was good but a bit too nice, the second one nasty but not yet heavy enough, and late last night Dan dropped a fucken bomb on us entitled "mix3". It's a scorcher. As with all mixes there's still some details that need to be worked out, but when your own music starts giving you goosebumps, you know things are on the right track! Every part I had doubts about before now works like a perfect war machine. Amazing what a change in sound and/or level can do to an arrangement.”
HAIL OF BULLETS have uploaded another video, this time you can see Paul and Stephan recording the guitars for the debut album at Excess Studios in Holland. Click HERE to watch the clip!
In other news, HAIL OF BULLETS have been confirmed for the Waldrock festival in Bergum, Netherlands on the 5th of July 2008. It’s the fourth confirmed festival appearance for HAIL OF BULLETS this summer. Here’s what’s confirmed so far:

BLACK MARKET ACTIVITIES News Update:
Dance the night away with The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, Beneath the Massacre, See You Next Tuesday and Born of Osiris!
Cecil Bennett has a dream. One day, this pint-sized man will have his revenge on those who haze him—thanks to destruction via electric chainsaw.
You may ask, who is Cecil Bennett? First, he’s a midget, and he really doesn’t mind the term when said in a non-jeering way. Primarily, Bennett is a creation straight from the twisted minds of the The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza—and no, this isn’t a band formed to pay homage to Tony Danza, while they perform illustrious dance moves to Frank Sinatra tunes.
These good ‘ole Tennessee boys get down to a different tune, one that drowns-out any of the clickity-clack noises tap dancing makes, anyway. TTDTE blow away all the country music goody-two-shoes in neighboring Nashville, with its version of high-end guitars and Tourette’s Disorder-esque breakdowns, giving new meaning to the electric slide. While musicianship and perfection remain important to some in tech-metal land, TTDTE deliver its tech assault one fart joke at a time.
TTDTE take the show on the road this spring with Beneath the Massacre, See You Next Tuesday and Born of Osiris.

ANIMOSITY to tour the East Coast with THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER and a full U.S. tour with FIRST BLOOD!
Bay Area based extreme metal band Animosity joins forces with hardcore heavy-weights First Blood (Trustkill) for a full U.S. tour, raging even as far as Canada. Prior to touring with First Blood, Animosity will tour a short East Coast stint with The Black Dahlia Murder (Metal Blade).
Animosity first hit the scene in 2000, when most of the members were only 15 years old, with a blistering brand of death metal/hardcore that sought to defy stereotypes and spit in the face of the mainstream. Almost 2 years after their Black Market Activities debut, Animosity is back and poised to showcase their tremendous talent and growth with “Animal”.
Musically, “Animal” shows an enormous progression from their prior releases. The album is themed on the frailty of our lives as animals in a violent and turbulent world. Dealing with the loss of loved ones and feeling disenchanted with a seemingly unfair environment, ‘Animal’ is Animosity’s most personally reflective and outwardly aggressive creation to date. The subject matter of the album strikes an emotional chord as it was written in the aftermath of vocalist, Leo Miller losing his girlfriend to a runaway drunk driver.

BLACK MARKET ACTIVITIES proudly announce the signing of ROMANS!
Black Market Activities is proud to announce the signing on Vermont natives, Romans.
After years of toiling with different bands and styles, Justin Gonyea (guitar) teamed up with Ben Lee (guitar) and Kevin Savage (drums) in the winter of 2006. The band sought the services of Sean Martin (bass) and Tom Kelly (vocals) rounded out the bands current line-up.
Romans, still new on the scene, is already making an impact with their self-released debut “All Those Wrists”. While the chaotic speed of Converge, heavy ambiance of Isis, space-rock of Failure and Cave In, and the balls-out rock of Queens of The Stone Age can be heard on “All Those Wrists”; Romans choose to play without limitations. Check out tracks from “All those Wrists” at http://www.myspace.com/romansnoise.
Romans will be playing a series of shows with Trap Them:
03/14 Boston, MA Wadzilla Mansion w/ Black Ships and Furnace
03/15 Burlington, VT w/ Black Ships
Romans is:
Tom Kelly – vocals and synth
Justin Gonyea – guitars
Kevin Savage – drums
Sean Martin – bass
“All Those Wrists” will be re-released by Black Market Activities in Spring 2008!
