Metal Blade to release HERETIC 3-disc-boxset

‘From The Vault…Tortured And Broken” featuring classic album ‘Breaking Point” as well as ‘Torture Knows No Boundary” EP plus tons of bonus material!

On the 5th of July Metal Blade will release From The Vault…Tortured And Broken, a HERETIC boxset featuring two CDs and one DVD!

CD 1 includes HERETIC‘s classic album Breaking Point featuring later METAL CHURCH singer Mike Howe on vocals. The album has been remastered for maximum audio quality and features four bonus tracks.

CD 2 includes the band’s first official recordings, the infamous Torture Knows No Boundary EP (aka Don’t Turn Your Back) featuring the band’s current vocalist Julian Mendez as well as nine bonus tracks. All being remastered as well!

The bonus-DVD features two live shows from 1985 and 1986 as well as a video-clip.

Taking their experiences from Legion of the Damned, God Dethroned, Asphyx, and Inhume, Richard Ebisch (guitars, bass, vocals), Susan Gerl (guitars, vocals) and Roel Sanders (drums) decided it was time to release their combined sound on the world with a new band!

Metal Blade is happy to announce their collaboration with this ripping new band! THE OCEAN enters German album charts with Pelagial at position 68!

THE OCEAN have entered the official German Media Control album charts at position 68 with their new album Pelagial! This entry marks the first charts entry for the THE OCEAN ever! The album also entered the Media Markt charts in Germany on position 72.

In the U.S. Pelagial hit the Billboard Heatseekers Chart at #10 upon its first week of release! In addition, Pelagial landed at #55 on the Billboard Top Independent Album Chart, #26 on the Billboard Current Hard Music Chart and #39 on the Billboard Top Hard Rock Chart. In Canada, the record ranked in at #23 on the Hard Music Chart and #194 on the Top 200 Current Albums Chart.

Prepare follow-up to “Misery Wizard”

Rhode Island’s PILGRIM has officially joined forces with Metal Blade Records! Their debut album, Misery Wizard, was released in early 2012 through Alan Averill’s Metal Blade imprint, Poison Tongue Records. PILGRIM managed to spend the majority of 2012 rattling the foundation of the underground doom scene. The band toured with Samothrace, Mares of Thrace, Primitive Weapons, headlined the Stoner Hands of Doom festival, and more. At the end of 2012, PILGRIM had the honor of performing at Metal Blade’s 30th Anniversary ScionAV label showcase. Live audio, as well as interviews from the event can be found at scionav.com. Most recently, PILGRIM performed as part of the Roadburn Festival 2013 in the Netherlands. A bootleg from that show is on youtube HERE, and features two brand new tracks.

As the Misery Wizard chapter of PILGRIM‘s budding career draws to a close, the band has begun efforts to craft the follow-up to what became a critically-acclaimed debut. The new album will be recorded in May of 2013 at Emandee Studios, which is the same location utilized for Misery Wizard. More details will be posted as they become available.

ANTROPOMORPHIA release brand new video clip for ‘Debauchery In Putrefaction’!

After having released their first ever videoclip for the song Psuchagogia in late 2012, AntropomorphiA return to the front with the second videoclip from the acclaimed album Evangelivm Nekromantia.

The videoclip for the song Debauchery In Putrefaction can be viewed from today on at THIS location! There you can also the CD and LP of Evangelivm Nekromantia.

With an album banning heading over their heads, the easiest road for the band to proceed with the project of a new videoclip would have been by providing the criticasters with exactly what they want: An overdose of gore balancing in between art and kitsch, stirring things up just the right amount. Instead, the band chose to take a different approach. Opposed to a gore obsessed videoclip, which would have been too easy, it was decided to leave a respectable amount of room for people’s own imagination. Interesting to know what the very same criticasters would make of this in their own minds. AntropomorphiA once again worked with Maurice Swinkels for this videoclip.

Vocalist/guitarist Ferry comments: “‘Evangelivm Nekromantia’ transcends further and represents much more than what critics call a gore based story, so to us the logical continuation to portray that story is one with a more darker view.”

Swedish epic Doom Metallers MEMORY GARDEN has launched a video clip for The Evangelist which is the opening track of the band’s new album Doomain!

Comments MEMORY GARDEN on the video clip: “We spent one day in February recording the video for ‘The Evangelist’. It was all shot in a chapel which fit both the song and Memory Garden like a glove. The video contains 2 parallel stories, one with the band playing in the chapel and one where you can follow ‘The Evangelist’ and his flock of sheeps.”

The video was filmed & directed by Ronny Hemlin at ProVid film.

Doomain was released April 12th via Metal Blade Records in Europe and recorded at Annoying Sound Factory & SolnaSound Recording by the band with a little assistance engineering from Mike Wead (KING DIAMOND) during the lead guitar sessions. The mix was done by Dan Swanö at Unisound.

PENTAGRAM announce new guitarist!

After months of searching and reviewing literally hundreds of applicants from around the world, PENTAGRAM is excited to announce Matt Goldborough as their new guitarist. Matt is a Philadelphia based musician, composer and riff aficionado. Versed in many genres of music, Matt’s experience outside of the heavy metal world brings a fresh yet classic approach to this genre-defining band. His style hearkens back to the very origins of “heavy metal” itself when heavy blues and psychedelic rock guitarists pioneered the genre in an attempt to harden rock and roll. This of course is exactly what Bobby Liebling and the original PENTAGRAM line up did back in 1971.

Having played in a bevy of bands on the East coast, Goldsborough is most recently known as part of the acclaimed Philadelphia rock band, THE GREAT UNKNOWN.

His debut with the Ram Family, rounded out by Bobby Liebling on vocals, Greg Turley on bass guitar and Sean Saley on drums, was on April 16th, 2013 at the sold out show at Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn, NY. BATTLECROSS unveil Shannon Lucas as session drummer for new album!

BATTLECROSS has completed work on their sophomore album, which will be due out this summer during their tour as part of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. Recording has been completed and the finishing touches are being applied to the tracks and art. During tracking, one of metal’s most acclaimed drummers, Shannon Lucas, stepped in as the session drummer for the album.

Lucas comments: “Being a fan of Battlecross, it is an honor to be a part of their new record. I can’t wait for the world to hear this album.”

Producer Eyal Levi adds, “I am so beyond excited for the chance to produce Shannon Lucas on the new Battlecross record. He’s one of the true BEASTS of metal drumming. The man’s skills are literally untouchable. Combine that with a badass rising star of a band and I think we’ve got the makings of a crushing record!”

As previously announced, Kevin Talley will be stepping in to play drums for the band on their two upcoming live performances, the New England Metal & Hardcore Fest (4/19) and the Orion Music & More Festival (6/08-6/09). Drummer Mike Kreger has parted ways with the band to focus on some new opportunities and attend to personal business. BATTLECROSS will announce their new permanent member once a final decision has been made.

The album, scheduled to be released in early summer, also features a guest guitar solo by Producer Jason Suecof, and will be mastered by Joey Vera of Armored Saint. Vera also mastered the band’s cover of Pantera’s ‘Hostile’, which was released as a single last summer.

Melodic death metal heroes AMON AMARTH are pleased to unveil the details of their ninth studio album. Titled Deceiver of the Gods, the epic offering was recorded at Backstage Studios in Derbyshire, UK, produced, mixed and mastered by Andy Sneap (Opeth, Megadeth, Exodus, Arch Enemy, Killswitch Engage). The cover art was, once again, completed by Tom Thiel and depicts a mythical battle between the Norse Gods Loki & Thor. First track streaming now! European tourdates announced!

THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER‘s sixth full-length album, Everblack, will be released worldwide the 7th/10th of June 2013. The album art for Everblack was painted by renowned artist Nick Keller and recording was completed at Audiohammer Studios (lead guitars and vocals), Rustbelt Studios (drums), and Regal Fecal (guitar and bass). Mixing was handled by Jason Suecof and Ryan Williams, mastering was completed by Alan Douches at West Westside. Trevor Strnad’s horror-inspired lyrics persist on Everblack, beginning with In Hell is Where She Waits for Me, a reference to the murder from which the band took for their moniker.

Vocalist Trevor Strnad elaborates on the lyrical concepts: “The opening track is the first actual song we’ve done about the Black Dahlia. This one is for the fans… they’ve been asking for this to happen for a long time. The story takes place at the Elizabeth Short’s rain drenched funeral, where her killer in attendance… just one of the many macabre tales woven into the fabric of Everblack. Subterranean flesh-farming vampires, vine rape, Jeffery Dahmer, amputation… it’s all here! With this sixth slab of sickness I tried my best to honor the band’s legacy and write lyrics that will keep the legions of horror fiends perspiring with fear.”

Everblack will be released on June 7th/10th in Europe.

Munich progressive Death Metallers OVER YOUR THRESHOLD just returned from their first European tour where they supported mighty OBSCURA as well as label mates AEON.

“After having hit the road in Germany and Austria, fucking awesome locations, crazy and breathtaking audiences and simply the best possible company we could have with all the bands and the crew we toured with, OVER YOUR THRESHOLD is back home at last.

However, the end of this memorable tour brings some good and some less good results for as. As for the bad one: After the Zurich show, we also have to cancel our gigs in Finland this April. Independently of each other, our new drummer and bassist had to face an unpredictable incidence in their private lives, which makes it impossible for them to attend the shows. We feel deeply sorry about this, but it’s not the end of the road. Sooner or later, Finland will have to deal with us!

As for the good result: Yes, you’ve seen right! New Drummer! Originally introduced as our tour drummer filling in for Julian, we are excited to inform you that Benedikt Merl has become a permanent member of OVER YOUR THRESHOLD and the official drummer. Working with him went fluently in every way right from the beginning, and last but not least he proved himself as a reliable and skilled musician perfectly fitting for us. We parted ways with Julian on amicable terms and wish him all the best for his future and forthcoming music career.

Feeling reinvigorated, we now will put our focus on writing and composing tracks for the next album. A new line-up means new influences in the band and the songs, and we hope to give you a foretaste of what is to come as soon as possible.”

It’s a struggle for some bands to get started, while others appear to seamlessly come together. With years of perspective and experience, the three members of PYRITHION – Tim Lambesis, Ryan Glisan, and Andy Godwin – have created a dark and intense death metal record almost overnight. EXUMER vocalist Mem von Stein featured in new Qi Gong exercise DVD

Mem von Stein, known for his work as the vocalist for influential Thrash metal band, EXUMER, is also a fitness enthusiast. Stein is a second degree Kung Fu Wu Su instructor, and also teaches Kung Fu and Qi Gong. Stein appears in a new QiGong exercise DVD that is available now at endorphins-body.com. Qi Gong is an ancient Chinese system of exercises that combine movement with breathing techniques in order to cultivate and circulate “Qi” in the body. Mem von Stein comments: “In my late 20s, I decided for myself that I was looking for something spiritual but outside of any organized religion or belief system. EXUMER released their latest album, Fire & Damnation, in April of last year. The album, described by Bloody Disgusting as a “blistering, arcing, glorious moshfest”, is the band’s third full length release and first since 1987′s Rising from the Sea. EXUMER’s debut album, Possessed by Fire, holds exalted status in the thrash underground as being one of the best releases of its era. Comments the band: “The recording of Doomain must be the most relaxed album session we’ve ever done. We recorded most of the album ourselves in our own studio and took the time we wanted and needed to get it done. Dan Swanö helped us getting the rig together and he provided us with the tools to do it and from there we did it ourselves. The lead guitar sessions were done at SolnaSound Recording by Simon & Mike Wead. When it all was done it was sent to Dan Swanö and Unisound for mix and mastering. The final album is amazing and we are so thrilled to get it out to all of you”

‘The Burden of Sorrow’ to be released April 26th on Metal Blade Records in Europe!

It’s a struggle for some bands to get started, while others appear to seamlessly come together. With years of perspective and experience, the three members of PYRITHION have created a dark and intense death metal record almost overnight. The individual members’ prior success aside, the music speaks for itself. In an exclusive studio video, shot and edited by Ryan Glisan, fans can catch a glimpse of what it’s like to record inside Lambesis Studios. Singer Tim Lambesis, who is best known for his work as the front man of AS I LAY DYING, explains: “I have wanted to do a heavier and more traditionally metal band for a while. Being that I own a recording studio, I thought a great place to start was by asking my engineer who the best guitar player is that he has recorded. I wanted to team him up with one of my favorite guitar players growing up.”

Shortly thereafter, Ryan Glisan from ALLEGAEON and Andy Godwin (ex-The Famine, Embodyment) began sending ideas back and forth. Those ideas would form the foundations of the first three PYRITHION songs. Glisan elaborates further on the band’s expedited origin, “When Tim first reached out to me to ask if I was interested in starting a new project, I was really intrigued as to where the overall sound would go. Given the short time frame we had to work with, the “newness” of all the members, and an uncertainty of an overall direction, I wasn’t initially 100% confident in how the end product would turn out. After spending a weekend collaborating, recording these initial 3 songs, and beginning to write new songs going forward, I can say with absolute confidence now that this band will be a major force in the metal scene.”

In celebration of its forthcoming release, just three weeks away, Spin Magazine is currently streaming the instrumental version of THE OCEAN‘s Pelagial in its entirety!

Written, recorded, and intended to-be-performed-live as one single 53-minute piece of music, Pelagialis a multifaceted conceptual musical voyage that begins at the surface of the ocean and plunges through all five pelagic depth zones: epipelagic, mesopelagic, bathyalpelagic, abyssopelagic, and hadopelagic. In synch with diminishing light and increasing pressure as one dives or sinks deeper into the ocean, the album begins rather light and progressively gets heavier and slows as the band reaches the unfathomable depths of the hadopelagic zone, characterized by complete darkness and a thousandfold increased pressure as compared to surface level. The tracks, or episodes, are connected by interludes of underwater sounds and samples taken from old submarine movies, which give the album a claustrophobic "Das Boot"-kind of atmosphere. "There are track marks, and there are actual songs built into this larger structure, but the whole album is a journey rather than a number of loose tracks…some riffs appear in the first two minutes of the album and then reappear 30 minutes later," comments guitarist Robin Staps. It’s an experience that will reward repeated listens.

Pelagial will be released as a double CD, which includes both vocal and instrumental versions of the album, on April 26th/29th in Europe.

ENTRAILS formed in the ’90s, but split up before they were able to release a demo or even an album. It took them until 2008 to come back when guitarist Jimmy Lundqvist rediscovered some old tapes. In a moment of nostalgia, he decided that they deserved to be released as they should have been originally. With modern recording technology, the first ENTRAILS demo could finally take shape. After releasing another demo in 2009, ENTRAILS recorded and released their debut album, Tales From The Morgue, in 2010. RIVERS OF NIHIL wrap up tracking drums for upcoming full-length debut!

Band currently recording at Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg with Erik Rutan!

Reading, Pennsylvania’s Death Metal quintet, RIVERS OF NIHIL, recently entered Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg with Erik Rutan to record their first full-length album and Metal Blade Records debut, which is due out before the end of 2013.

Drummer Ron Nelson checked in after completing tracking the drums and here’s what he had to say: “Tracking went awesome; we were right on schedule with how we planned it out and everything went smoothly. Erik and I had very similar visions in the way we wanted the drums to sound and he delivered. Although this is our first full-length release, they’re going to be the most natural drums Rivers has had to date and we couldn’t be happier with how they sound.”

About the band:
Formed in 2009 in Reading, Pennsylvania, RIVERS OF NIHIL—which can be can be defined as the continuation of a neutral flow of retaining emptiness; humble, egoless…— took shape after Jake Dieffenbach (vocals), Ron Nelson (drums), and Jon Kunz (guitars) got together to create a band to push the boundaries of death metal. Formed out of the ashes of their previous band, Jake, Ron, and Jon played their first show as a three piece, but soon after the band recruited Adam Biggs (bass/vocals) and Brody Uttley (guitars) who had both recently exited their own old band. RIVERS OF NIHIL went on to self-release two EPs—2010′s Hierarchy and 2011′s Temporality Unbound. The band played several shows and toured throughout the East Coast and Midwest, including stops at Midwest Fuckfest with Dying Fetus, Misery Index and Arsis, and Akron Deathfest with Complete Failure. RIVERS OF NIHIL continued to tour in support of their EPs, sharing the stage with Suffocation, The Faceless, Despised Icon, Revocation, Beneath the Massacre, Dysrhythmia, Decapitated, Six Feet Under, and Decrepit Birth, logging over 50 dates in the US alone.

Enter the summer of 2012; RIVERS OF NIHIL and Metal Blade Records began talks, and in September the band was officially signed to the label. In March of 2013 RIVERS OF NIHIL entered the studio with death metal master Erik Rutan (Hate Eternal, ex-Morbid Angel) at MANA RECORDING STUDIOS (Cannibal Corpse, Goatwhore, Exhumed, Mountain Goats) in St. Petersburg, Florida to begin the recording of their first full-length studio set for release before the end of 2013. TÝR, hailing all the way from the Faroe Islands, just returned to North America. This time, they are performing as part of Paganfest 2013 with Ensiferum, Heidevolk, Trollfest, and Helsott. The tour kicked off last Saturday in Denver, CO, and wraps up on April 21st in New York, NY at the Gramercy Theater. Tickets are on sale now, and the list of dates can be found at facebook.com/tyrband.

Following Paganfest, TÝR will begin recording their seventh full-length album. The title and art are yet to be announced and are to be considered works in progress, but vocalist/guitarist Heri Joensen has divulged that the album “is about women. Earthly women, valkyries and goddesses. It touches on subjects from nordic mythology such as the quest for fame, death in battle and valhalla.”

Some of the song titles thus far include: Mare Of My Night and Come My Valkyrie. TÝR has also confirmed that they will collaborate with producer Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Aborted, Mercenary) for the fifth consecutive album. Hansen has produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered the band’s previous four albums: The Lay of Thrym, By the Light of the Northern Star, Land, and Ragnarock.

The unique approach of TÝR’s music, melting traditional Nordic songs and dances with Celtic influences, doom, heavy, and progressive metal has found fans around the globe. Hail to The Hammer has become the hymn to the new generation of folk, pagan, and Viking metal fans.

Controversial necromantic Death Metallers ANTROPOMORPHIA have added a second guitar player to their ranks.

In other news ANTROPOMORPHIA have reacted to a letter their label Metal Blade Records received from the German BPJM (“Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons”) that included an indexing request for the band’s latest album Evangelivm Nekromantia. The letter claims the cover artwork of the album as well as the song Fleisch illustrate and address killings and violence in an autotelic way. Furthermore they don’t seem to be too happy about the album title. A newspiece in German can be found HERE, a newspiece in Dutch HERE!

Comments the band: “We’ve made certain people nervous and uncomfortable with our music and lyrical content. In order to ‘protect’ the children, it’s quite possible ‘Evangelivm Nekromantia’ will be banned and removed from German stores. Through their ridiculous and hypocrite way of thinking they are not letting people use their own intelligence or freedom of choice, this in an era where you turn on the news and see the world’s vile and repulsive excrements in full HD. These people are nothing more than a bunch of pitiful sheep! They might think this ban will be castigation but it will only strengthen us in our opposition towards these sad shallow people that crowd the world with their insignificant lives. To us, it’s the perfect representation of people without perception other than a retarded opinion about an artistic expression.”

Pelagial is possibly their deepest and most profoundly sophisticated work to date, Pelagial is a progressive musical journey written, recorded, mixed and to-be-performed-live as one single 53-minute piece of music. Mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Witchcraft) at Fascination Street Studios in Örebrö, Sweden, Pelagial will be released as a double CD, which includes a vocal and an instrumental version of the album and is scheduled for release on April 26th/29th (Europe) and April 30th (North America/world) through Metal Blade Records.

“My original plan was to write a stepless musical progression, like a continuous color blending from white to black,” relates guitarist Robin Staps, “but I soon realized that it could not be that linear. It needed to stay interesting after all, and this is something that is usually best achieved by employing unforeseeable elements. In the end, any good idea must be put into perspective by its musical impact.” And so the listener will experience swirls and vertical currents while listening to the album; short, unexpected faster passages in between, sudden tempo changes that will make them feel like they’re rising again for a short bit — but the general direction remains very clear: “You can feel from the beginning, it’s going down. Deeper and deeper.”

The concept of the album is made evident in its title, Pelagial. Listeners will be further submersed as they journey with the band, beginning at the surface of the ocean and plunging through all five pelagic depth zones: epipelagic, mesopelagic, bathyalpelagic, abyssopelagic, and hadopelagic. In synch with diminishing light and increasing pressure as one dives or sinks deeper into the ocean, the album begins rather light and progressively gets heavier and slows as the band reaches the unfathomable depths of the hadopelagic zone, characterized by complete darkness and a thousandfold increased pressure as compared to surface level. What is amazing about Pelagial is that this is not some detached conceptual idea; this can actually be heard and felt while listening to the album.

The Somatic Defilement, originally released in 2007, is a concept album about Jack the Ripper’s infamous murders of prostitutes in East London’s WHITECHAPEL district. First details of new release ‘Insurgent’! New live-clip available!

In the light of DEW-SCENTED’s European tour supporting TESTAMENT starting this weekend, we are now launching some first details about their upcoming anniversary release!

The title is Insurgent and it will be released May 24th, 2013 in Europe via Metal Blade Records.

Insurgent is a comprehensive 19-track collection including brand-new and rare material with a total running time of 76 minutes, celebrating more than 20 years of restless, deadly Thrash Metal!

The tracklisting of Insurgent contains 3 brand new songs, 7 new live songs, a total of 7 cover songs and some more. It will be available as limited Digipak CD, Digital Download and the new songs will even be issued as strictly limited 10″ vinyl edition!
