PRIMORDIAL announce two UK shows in May 2012!
PRIMORDIAL have announced two headline shows in the UK in May 2012. They'll play Manchester on the 4th and London the following night.
Singer Nemtheanga is looking forward to their first UK club shows in three years:
"So finally we can announce some good news for the UK….two headlining shows in May in London and Manchester. It's been quite a few years since we've played club shows in the UK that weren't connected to a festival of one sort or the other and considering the unfortunate circumstances surrounding our appearance at Bloodstock last year where my voice gave out. The one and only time in 20 years and it had to happen on the mainstage at Bloodstock! So hopefully these shows will go someway to making recompense for that and a chance for us to play a full set in a country we don't visit often enough that has supported us from day one! See you on the field…"
Joining them on stage will be Hell and Winterfylleth.

PRIMORDIAL to embark on European Paganfest tour in March!
Irish Pagan Metallers PRIMORDIAL will be co-headlining the Paganfest tour 2012 kicking off in Oberhausen, Germany the 16th of March 2012!
Comments PRIMORDIAL singer A.A. Nemtheanga: "Never say never right? So we announce our participation in next March's Paganfest festival tour across Central Europe. Anyone who has read any of my various ramblings and musings over the last year or two will know my feelings about the current state of club touring and the industry in general. It's an ugly business but we are definitely ugly enough and getting uglier every year so strangely enough the stars aligned and the dates fell into place for us. Anyone who knows anything about Primordial knows how hard it has become for us to commit to lengthy touring as the years go by. The window of opportunity represents possibly the only opportunity we will have to do a longer tour for 'Redemption' across Europe so as they say…needs must and better the devil you know. Never as I say say never.
Regardless of the fact that the general tone of this tour is a little different. It has a more pronounced mix of light and shade. We have our Icelandic brethren Solstafir taking part which I would have thought alongside ourselves should sweeten the deal for those who may feel the pagan/heathen festival tour holds nothing for them, Romanian shamans NeguraBunget also filling out the darker quotient of the tour. Heidevolk stand firm for proud old values and having taken part in Eluveitie's acoustic album personally my feeling on those guys and girls should be apparent! I support them and the cultural significance they represent. I'm not here to sound the rallying cry for a dying venture (i.e touring) or sound the death knell for Primordial club touring we are simply taking part, we have some interesting and new things planned and the tour has some light and shade, which may be difficult for some people to take but this is how it is. Of course some territories are missed and we apologise for this but this is a mixture of market forces and pragmatism and unfortunately nothing to do with us, we hope to fill in the blanks over time. Bottom line, Primordial is touring….this is the most important fact and you know what you are gonna get…blood sweat and fire so see you on the field…"

PRIMORDIAL enter the official German album charts at position 31 with their new album 'Redemption At The Puritan's Hand'!
Also entering charts in Finland, Sweden and Switzerland!
Irish pagan metal masters PRIMORDIAL have entered the official German album charts at position 31 with their new album Redemption At The Puritan's Hand!
This is a great success for PRIMORDIAL and Metal Blade Records considering it´s the first ever chart entry for PRIMORDIAL in Germany!
Comments singer A.A. Nemtheanga: "What goes around comes around my friends, you can't keep a good band down, whatever the cliche might be! The industry may have changed vastly even since we released To the nameless dead but for a band like Primordial that resolutely goes against the grain without compromise charting at #31 is still a remarkable achievement so thanks to everyone who has supported the band through thick and thin over the last 20 years and to Metal Blade for their part in our gradual ascent since the release of The gathering wilderness. Coming from such an underdog nation as Ireland this is also a fantastic moment, we have had to work several times as hard as others to get to this point but no harm, it has given us character and the willpower to keep going regardless of what's thrown at us. So cheers and have a drink on us. See you down the front."
Redemption At The Puritan's Hand also entered the official album charts in Finland, Sweden and Switzerland, here´s the detailed positions:
Finland: # 23
Finland (Rumba charts / only record store sales): # 4

PRIMORDIAL post second song taken off upcoming new album 'Redemption At The Puritan's Hand'!
Irish pagan metal masters PRIMORDIAL have posted the second single taken off their upcoming new album Redemption At The Puritan's Hand due April 23/26 via Metal Blade Records in Europe, April 26 in North America!
In collaboration with Metal Hammer Germany, PRIMORDIAL and Metal Blade Records are happy to offer you the streaming off the album opener No Grave Deep Enough. Please click HERE to play the song!
PRIMORDIAL singer A.A. Nemtheanga comments No Grave Deep Enough: "This song always suggested itself to me as the opener. It has a furious swirling chaos at it's heart that kicks off the album like a boot to the head. The structures and notes are inherently Irish in almost every way, you can almost feel the sodden dank earth and the cobalt grey clouds pregnant with rain storms skirting over the mountains! it reminds me somehow musically of Thin Lizzy on amphetamine! The lyrics are a stark proclamation, whoever you are whichever god or gods you pray to when the moment comes we are all the same and nothing but food for worms, but death, stay your hand and hold your reins, we are not finished here yet."

PRIMORDIAL's A.A. Nemtheanga talks lyrical concept of new album 'Redemption At The Puritan's Hand'!
Irish pagan metal masters PRIMORDIAL will release their long anticipated new album Redemption At The Puritan's Hand April 23/26 via Metal Blade Records in Europe, April 26 in North America!
Singer A.A. Nemtheanga reveals the lyrical concept behind Redemption At The Puritan's Hand:"The themes have altered and changed a little. Again there could be a loose concept between some of the songs if you went looking for it as with most of the albums but they don’t all step in line. This is what I concocted to try and explain it all. If I had to sum this album up I would say this is the 'death' album. There isn't exactly a whole concept but many of the themes deal with mortality, how we deal with it. The spiritual structures we place around us to make sense of it. Sex, death, procreation and god. As we get older our relationship to our lives changes, the realization you will not live forever, the grand plan you hoped to uncover never materializes, food for worms and nothing more.
We are animals, beasts and making peace with that beast might be your life's work but more often than not he is never tamed.
Once a wolf always a wolf. We all seek redemption in one way or another, from lies or from truth. This is one of the central themes as you can tell from the title. How we seek redemption from our lies, from the evil that is at the heart of men. Forgiveness, salvation and redemption.
"When the shadow fell upon me
I knew I was running with the wolf
And it was his eyes I saw staring back
And this I learnt and this I know
You cannot escape the beast when you wear his mark"
Those of us who are godless or faithless often envy the man of faith for his life seems to have an extra purpose, despite the fact that logic, pragmatism, science and realism should crush any sign of faith we still persist in lying to ourselves. Perhaps the alternative is too much to bear. So the themes of religion, mortality and death occur over and over again, along with continuing themes of alienation, martyrdom, sacrifice, violence and retribution. Occasionally, very occasionally a chink of light breaks through."

8. Death Of The Gods
Singer A.A. Nemtheanga about the recordings of the new album: "So how does it compare? For the first time I guess we felt a little pressure, before 'To The Nameless Dead' we had always been a niche band, a critics choice but following TTND we moved a little more centre stage. Expectations my friends, expectations! Yes it contains rabble-rousers and hooks and choruses, memorable themes and dynamics but also it has darkness in spades. It has grit, filth and foreboding. Dark sweeping tragedy as always mixed with blood stirring defiance!
The recording of course was booked during what has turned out to be one of the worst winters in living memory in Europe. Leaving Ireland at –15 to travel to a –20 Wales, trudging through feet of snow, slipping on black ice and basically having our bollix frozen off for three weeks left me thinking next time I’m going to record in the Bahamas and fake all this grimness. For good measure I got what looking back must have been swine flu recording the vocals. In fact some I can’t remember recording, I was so out of my head on painkillers and energy drinks. Suffering for your art is over rated believe me."

PRIMORDIAL vocalist A.A. Nemtheanga comments the front art: "So it's finished, ready, done and dusted as they say. The cover was done again by our by now resident art executioner Paul McCarroll from Unhinged Art. Simple I think you will admit but definitely one that we argued least about through all the years, dark, macabre and beautiful it perfectly portrays the themes of the new album, which I will get into shortly."
Nemtheanga about the recordings: "So how does it compare? Meanwhile PRIMORDIAL have finished the recordings on their seventh studio album, Redemption At The Puritan's Hand, with producer Chris Fielding (Napalm Death, Electric Wizard) for a April release via Metal Blade Records.
PRIMORDIAL vocalist A.A. Nemtheanga comments on Redemption At The Puritan's Hand:
"If I had to sum this album up I would say this is the 'death' album. Plain and simple.
Occasionally, very occasionally a chink of light breaks through.
This is our seventh album, you know what to expect, passion, intensity, commitment and sheer bloody mindedness. Don't expect fantasy or escapism. No remorse, no regret."
PRIMORDIAL will release their new longplayer Redemption At The Puritan's Hand on April 23rd/26th, 2011 via Metal Blade Records in Europe! Stay tuned for track listing, album art, pre-order deals and the first sound samples in the coming weeks!

PRIMORDIAL to release 'Storm Before Calm' reissue in February as Digipak with bonus-dvd!
Landing page with liveclip from bonus-dvd online!
Irish pagan metal masters PRIMORDIAL will reissue their classic 'Storm Before Calm' album on February 11/14 in Europe. The original album will be released as a remastered version in a double digipak with new artwork. The package will also contain the bonus-dvd 'Live at Summer Breeze 2004'!
Comments PRIMORDIAL singer A.A. Nemtheanga: "Storm before calm is the album in many respects the album that got away. The label at the time was shipping water and about to go under and despite the positive press the impact made was far less than previous album "Spirit the earth aflame". Everything somehow seemed like an afterthought, the artwork was not what we had in mind and something we always regretted. Halfway through the recording the plug was almost pulled by the studio, no money had come through to pay the deposit. It was only for the understanding of engineer Mags and the owners that we were allowed to continue and "Storm" even existed at all.
One thing looking back that doesn't seem like such an afterthought to me is the songs. We may have been grappling with Pro Tools, what was a new concept and technology for us that perhaps took some of the rich edge of the music but they still sound strong. Opener "Heretics Age" hit harder than anything we had done before to the W.B Yeats poem "Hosting of the Sidhe" which did the great mans words justice "Storm" is a strong album that perhaps never quite got the respect nor attention it deserved from either the press or fans. However it's with great pleasure we can re-release the album with proper and revised artwork, give the music a small but faithful re-master and as a bonus disc our performance at Summer Breeze in 2004. It's obvious we had yet to learn our trade playing on big stages but it's an interesting snapshot of the band from the "Storm" period. Enjoy!"

"Chris Fielding is awesome, as usual," PRIMORDIAL vocalist Alan "Nemtheanga" Averill told Decibel magazine. "He's learned a few more tricks since we were last there, so it's working out well. The album itself sounds vital and full of energy," he continued, "and has some very bleak and morose moments, but also some of the more metal elements we had moved into with 'The Nameless Dead' It's definitely PRIMORDIAL and won't disappoint people."

In other news PRIMORDIAL have confirmed a bunch of European club and festival shows.
"We are constantly reminded all the time about how tired and jaded people are, that nothing excites them to go to club tours anymore that attendances are dwindling. It may only be ten dates but we really tried this time round with album number seven "Redemption at the Puritan's hand" coming out in April to try and put something a little different together and to hopefully combat some apathy! The mixture of the epic metal bombast of While Heaven Wept and the sweeping melancholy of Alcest together with Primordial will make for some shows to long live in the memory!"

PRIMORDIAL post update on drum position and album recordings!
A.A. Nemtheanga – singer of Irish Pagan Metallers PRIMORDIAL – has posted an update about what is going on in the bands camp.
"It’s been a while since my last confession. Joking aside it really has been a long time since our last transmission and the reasons are manifold and really pretty simple. This has been one of the most tumultuous years in the band since the mid nineties. The wheels very nearly came clean off, so where do I start.
We can’t go any further without clearing up the drummer situation. Truth is, we had an incident in Greece that if you follow or know anything about the band has been well documented so we won’t go into again. Simon had some real problems that night, firstly we thank the Greek fans for their understanding and we will be back in 2011. Yes it’s true in the aftermath of that we auditioned some drummers and I must also thank everyone who applied from abroad, the Irish drummers we did play with and everyone who sent us emails and messages wishing us strength and asking after Simon.
Suffice is to say Simon is the drummer of Primordial and I have no doubt this will never change, he is fit and well and we rehearsed yesterday. For our own piece of mind we had to audition people and in hindsight maybe something positive came out of it in that we had to put the album recording back and I feel we will be better prepared. We all of course have a long history together of over two decades in various personal combinations and to put it mundanely you go through ups and downs and this year has had more than it’s fair share of downs. For the first time in years we played a few very average shows and by our own admission became unfocused. Yet as always we regroup, our own biggest critics and in one month we enter the studio to record album number seven.
We would like to extend massive thanks to Gareth Averill for filling in at short notice for a fistful of gigs over the summer. In case you didn’t know he’s the guy who shot and edited our dvd and as you may recognise, my cousin. He stood up to the plate and in a couple of days learned our set, having been a session drummer in the Irish indie/rock scene for a decade. The whole experience and auditioning drummers at the very least gave us a greater insight into the dynamic that makes Primordial Primordial and that dynamic belongs to all five of us. We may have stand ins for shows now and again because we are not a professional band nor make a living from it and life gets in the way of us all doing every show but we realised that replace one of the five of us creatively and Primordial is not Primordial.
For the foreseeable future Cathal Murphy is going to be behind the kit live, making his debut with us at the end of the month in Spain and Portugal. Simon is just taking a break for a short while, nothing more and nothing less. This will be our first time in Madrid and Barcelona since 2000 when we played with Immortal. Been way too long.
Touring and festival plans are being thrown about now for 2011, hopefully some more news very soon.
The new songs are coming thick and fast at this stage as studio time is approaching. Sometimes I really wish we made a living from the band so could take more time than the snatches of rehearsal we get but that said we also thrive on some pressure and it seems to give the songs some extra edge. Foel Studios in Wales is booked for two sessions in November and December. Looking forward to a Welsh Indian Winter.
Bring on the monsoon season."

Metal Blade Records teams up with Alan Averill 'Nemtheanga' of Primordial for distribution of his label POISON TONGUE RECORDS
Alan Averill 'Nemtheanga' works with Metal Blade Records' A&R department; first bands signed are Sweden's PORTRAIT and Ireland's DARKEST ERA!
Metal Blade Records is pleased to announce it has inked an imprint deal with Alan Averill 'Nemtheanga' of Primordial to handle distribution of his label POISON TONGUE RECORDS. Alan's POISON TONGUE RECORDS has already begun to gain notice as a promising label in the underground scene in Europe and now with distribution being handled by Metal Blade Records in North America, the label will be able to further expand its reach into States.
Alan Averill 'Nemtheanga' elaborates; "so after twenty years experience in the music industry I am starting my own imprint label called Poison Tongue Records through Metal Blade Records, working in conjunction with Darragh at Invictus Productions and Cyclone Empire. The reasons are many fold and despite the confused state the industry itself is in I felt it was time to step up and make a few things happen. Poison Tongue will be underground, make no bones about it and will concentrate on a couple of releases a year together with Invictus dealing with the underground traders, Cyclone hitting the middle ground and Metal Blade taking care of the shops, main mail-orders and bigger advertisements. Attack on all fronts!
The first release is the BLOOD REVOLT Indoctrine album. Poison Tongue is responsible for the limited digi version available right now through Metal Blade (listen to the track 'Year Zero' on the website) in conjunction with Profound Lore in the States and Invictus here in Europe taking care of the jewel edition.
Next up is a joint collaboration on a new DESTRÖYER 666 7" together with Invictus Productions. Something I'm very proud to be connected with having long connections with the DESTRÖYER 666 boys, this should be out to coincide with their tour with Watain in the fall. Then we are going to begin working with fellow Aussies, and one-time DESTRÖYER 666 members, Berserker and ASSAULTER on their new album, having recruited new members this is going to crush, plain and simple. A demo track is now up on the Poison Tongue site so be sure to check it out. More news will follow about releases to follow."
In other news; Alan Averill 'Nemtheanga' works with Metal Blade Records' A&R department and has already picked up two new bands. The first is PORTRAIT from Sweden and the second is DARKEST ERA hailing from Ireland. Metal Blade Records chairmen and CEO, Brian Slagel, comments on teaming up with Alan to assist the label in finding new metal acts: "We are very excited to work with Alan on this project. He has great ears and is really embedded in the underground."
Alan adds; "I'll be working A&R for Metal Blade, bringing some new angles and ideas. The first of which is Swedish old school contenders PORTRAIT. When this NWOBHM 80's magma finally spews to the surface these guys are going to be there. The second is young Irish band DARKEST ERA who will release their debut later in the year. A heady and vibrant mix of sweeping Irish melancholy imbued with Iron Maiden, Thin Lizzy, Omen and Slough Feg. Earth pagan power? Sound about right?
There will be more to follow believe me! If you are interested in getting in touch because your band might be what I'm looking for, email: alan.averill@gmail.com."
"We take pride in signing to a label with a legacy like that of Metal Blade," comments PORTRAIT guitarist Richard Lagergren. "And in a way I'd like to say this will be our first 'real' album… You ain't seen nothing yet! Hell awaits!"
Ade Mulgrew, guitarist of DARKEST ERA, comments; "this is a big step for us and gives us a great opportunity to get our music out to a lot more people. We've got a new album written that we are really excited about and can't wait to get it recorded. Metal Blade has put out some of our favorite records over the years and we're looking forward to working with them as we embark on this journey of conquest!"

PRIMORDIAL 2-CD re-issue of 'Spirit The Earth Aflame' available now!
It's hard to put the PRIMORDIAL experience into words. This Irish band has managed to establish their own territory, away from the cliches of the metal scene in general and the pagan scene in particular. Perfectly balanced between slow, dragging anthems and pure metallic fury, they always manage to create a world full of enthralling myths, where mist engulfs wonderful landscapes, only to reveal them in all their glory just at the right time.

PRIMORDIAL DVD “All Empires Fall” pushed back for 2 weeks!
Due to technical reasons the release of the long anticipated PRIMORDIAL DVD All Empires Fall had to be pushed back for two weeks. Irish Pagan masters PRIMORDIAL will now release their first ever DVD All Empires Fall on March, 12th / March, 15th 2010 via Metal Blade in Europe! It´ll be a DVD-set containing two discs full of quality material!
Disc 1 is the centrepiece of the DVD and features a full PRIMORDIAL headline show recorded live on the 24th of January, 2009 in their hometown of Dublin, Ireland. The show was filmed with five cameras and has an exceptional vintage look due to the hard work in post production. A truly impressive and powerful live gig, exciting from start to finish in front of die hard PRIMORDIAL audience and a perfect sound track that is available in stereo and 5.1!
Disc 2 features live clips from the bands appearances at Ragnarok Festival (Germany), Hove Festival (Norway) and Graspop Metal Meeting (Belgium) in 2008. The second disc also features a band documentary with all the inside stories and loads of ancient footage from the early stages of the band. The documentary has a playing time of approx. 60 minutes. Interviews with all band members and rehearsal footage complete the second disc of the set!
The special Deluxe version of All Empires Fall features expanded packaging and two additional audio CDs featuring the Dublin show!
Here´s what singer A.A. Nemtheanga has to say about All Empires Fall:
“…the gods have been working hard dogging the release of our first dvd 'All Empires Fall' but finally we are ready to prevail. The DVD will contain our Dublin show from last year, a documentary and bonus material from recent festivals. The special edition will contain the audio discs of the Dublin show, so you can hear how some old classics are played now, some almost two decades after writing. So how does it look? The simple answer is and without exaggeration possibly one of the best Metal live shows I've ever seen. We filmed it on analog reels, cut it with frightening pace and mixed it up with some very unconventional camera angles. It has the feel of a classic show from the late 70s not the clean, clinical digital vacuum most modern shows are filmed in. We also invested a lot of time, money and effort so don't expect one of those free recordings most festivals and soundstages offer. As normal we didn't do anything conventionally so there are no boring balcony stills or side of stage montages. No overdubs, auto tuning or drop ins we are proud that 'All Empires Fall' shows us as we are and as a Primordial show always is. Blood and thunder and no quarter given from start to finish…”

PRIMORDIAL re-issue series announced!
[09/01/09] 2008 was a great year for PRIMORDIAL! After the release of their magnum opus ‘To The Nameless Dead’ in late 2007 the Irishmen have played shows and festivals all over Europe during the year and gained loads of new fans.
The pagan metallers have lots of plans for the new year including a tour through North America and the writing of a new album. Apart from that the band will re-issue it´s catalogue during the year. All re-issues will be released in high quality packaging including bonus material.
The re-issue series starts with PRIMORDIALs debut album ‘Imrama’. Recorded in late 1994, it was originally released by Cacophonous Records in the autumn of 1995, already displaying the band's sense for overwhelming melodies, epic drama and total commitment, wrapped in a raw sound with a much stronger black metal influence than the band shows nowadays.
The re-issue comes as a double CD including the remastered album plus unreleased demos and live recordings, packaged in a precious black linen slipcase with glossy golden hot foil print, containing a six-page Digipak with the original artwork, the two CDs and a 16-page booklet with new liner notes and additional photos.
