BIO | INTERVIEW

2007 - Ravi about ‘Genesis’

Hell-O, Ravi! Your tour with UNEARTH just began – how’s it going so far?
The UNEARTH tour is going awesome! All the dudes are great and we're stoked to be a part of it.

Your debut album ‘Genesis’ is about to be released shortly – tell us a bit about it!
“Genesis” is going to be a matured JOB FOR A COWBOY. Our songs are more aggressive and technical but yet tasteful. I am pretty proud of it. We tried different things on this record. With pianos, strings, and what not. You've got to hear it to know what I am talking about.

It seems to be even more brutal and not that groovy like the ‘Doom’ EP was – how did it come to this development?
Well, Jonny and I have always wanted a true death metal sound. We've never found it until ‘Genesis’. This record was meant to be pure metal rather than ‘Doom’. On ‘Doom’ we were 15 and 16 and didn't know anything about anything. We threw all of those songs together without even thinking of the sound we wanted. With ‘Genesis’, everything came into play. In the songwriting process I wanted to have a more fit sound and make real songs.

What does your bandname deal with and what is the “job” for you cowboys?
Hahaha, well our band name is just a joke. There's nothing that the cowboy does or anything that has to do with a cowboy. It was suppose to be a joke and we got stuck with it.

Since day one you got stunning artwork on all of your releases, merchandise and so on – who’s responsible for this incredible stuff?
We use different artists on everything. We usually go back to a few. We all love imagery and art. That's one of our biggest concerns we take in the band. We always want different artwork and merchandise. That's a big part of this band and will always be a big part of this band.

MySpace helped you a lot – but also your own drive to do such an outstanding promotional work on your own got you where you are now… What happened exactly?
Well MySpace has helped us out so much. To tell you the truth, I don't even know what happened. Hahaha, theres something that happened and I still don't get it. I mean MySpace is such an amazing tool. Without it, I would not be doing this interview or anything else I am doing today.

We all know the legendary “Job For A Sponge” video – what do you think about that it and what do you think about Sponge Bob in general?
We actually got to meet the guy who did all of that, he's a cool kid from San Diego. I've only seen it once but it was good stuff. Sponge Bob is great!

What bands would you name if it comes to your main influences?
MASTODON, SPAWN OF POSSESSION, NILE and DECAPITATED

Well - this was just it! Have fun and success on tour! The last words are yours…
Thank you! And to all the people out there: go buy our CD ‘Genesis’ when it comes out!
