2006 - Valle Adzic about 'Holy Murder Masquerade'

Hey Valle! Soon you’re about to release your new album ‘Holy Murder Masquerade’. How does it feel?
Kind of unreal to be honest, cause there have been so damn many people involved on this album, and let me tell you, not always without problems. But now it feels damn good to be back in the game.

’Holy Murder Masquerade’ is a concept album based upon a comic story. Can you tell us a bit more about it?
Yeah, we did a concept album and even went a couple of steps further. We hired this Italian guy who does horror comics. He did the whole booklet like a comic book with the lyrics inserted in those speech balloons. Just like in an ordinary comic book. We also hired professional voice actors to bring life to the characters. The story is about this guy, Trent, who is a true servant of God. At least according to his own sick mind. He’s soon to complete his work and the listener/reader gets to follow him as he arrives at his final destination. There are a lot of deaths, violence, blood, etc, etc.. It’s a brutal story indeed. Check out the album and find out more.

There was quite a long break of 2 ½ years between the new one and your last effort ‘Hellucinate’. What did you do in between despite writing the new songs?
Well, except from touring there were a lot of things going on in our lives, things that had to be done. For example, I build my own studio, totally from the ground. It took a lot of my time, energy and focus. But now that’s all a completed chapter, and we’re ready to rock! Next album will hopefully be recorded by the end of 2007, there are already some cool ideas.

The new songs are more melodic and more midtempo than the songs on ‘Hellucinate’. How did it come to this slight change?
As you said… slight. The only intention we had was to make the songs more memorable. I guess the melodies and the tempo change were a kind of side effect. But then again, it’s a slight change.

You played Japan alongside THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER. Any memorable moments of this trip to share with us?
Yeah, we had the time of our lives. It was our second time in Japan and we absolutely love it over there. THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER were awesome, a real pleasure to hang out with. I think the last show we did in Tokyo was one of my personal favourites. The crowd was just totally crazy and treating us so damn well. Other than that? Well, I can’t remember when I laughed as much as when we went for some Karaoke with our German friends! My stomach literally hurt!

You toured Europe twice with AMON AMARTH. How was this experience?
Really good, we learned a lot. We weren’t really used to play in front of so many people every night. Those guys have kind of treated us like their kid brothers. They’re awesome guys, all of them. And we totally respect their thing.

You had Thomas Backelin of LORD BELIAL as a guest vocalist in the studio. How did it come to that?
Well, we’re friends and live in the same little town. And when we realized the title track needed some screaming vocals, we knew directly who to call. We also planned on some other guest appearances, but that didn’t work out.

How would you describe ‘Holy Murder Masquerade’ to someone who has never heard about you or metal in general before?
Fucking brutal metal in a friendly way! Ha! Check it out, you won’t regret it.
