A bison is "a big, hairy, strong animal," says James Farwell, who plays guitar and sings for BISON B.C. That could as just as well describe the band, which rose from the ass-end of the continent in Vancouver, Canada, to utter its doomed, plaintive call, and tramples through the constellations on its four shaggy limbs (James, Dan And, Masa Anzai, and Brad Mackinnon). Ghostly, windswept prairies, the mythical haunts of native lore: it is all there. Self-described "Canadian dirtbags" and veterans of Vancouver's deep thrash and indie scenes, they are hitting their stride and offering up a new soundtrack for our last party before certain extinction. There is illness, abuse, apocalypse, and French horn.
The press loves Dark Ages!
METAL HAMMER Germany - # 2 in monthly soundcheck!
"Bow down, pay homage and worship!" (Thorsten Zahn, 6 out of 7, Metal Hammer)
VISIONS Germany - # 4 in monthly soundcheck - beauty of the issue!
"Plunder, murder, burning down: Just like Baroness in a permanent cloven-hoofed trap, Bison B.C. trample through their third album and through Metal history!" (Daniel Gerhardt, Visions Magazine)
"Compared to it's accessible predecessor "Dark Ages" requests a few more spins. But then it grabs you straight by the balls and unfolds with it's elemental riffs an extremely addictive potential!" (Ronny Bittner, 8 out of 10, Rock Hard Magazine Germany)
"The album sounds like if BISON B.C. would like to finish a bottle of Scotch and a sixpack of beer at first before they destroy a stage in some backyard shed in the middle of nowhere. Just to make sure that no other band could come up with the idea to outrank this huge force of metal!" (Martin Schmidt, Fuze Magazine, Germany)

ExploreMusic.com debuts new BISON B.C. song! "Dark Ages" streets April 9/12!
Their first Metal Blade release, Quiet Earth, showed what that earth's last sound might be like. It was heavy, sick, and crazy; stomping and banging, elegiac with cello. Just beneath the rock they described a bad trip through a devastated world where resigned dignity and camaraderie with the friends that remain are the only consolations.
This mixture of rowdiness and gentleness is very much of their hard-living, hard-loving hometown: f****d-up modernity's last outpost on the rim of a vast, menacing wilderness. In their new release, James sings, "Vancouver's an empty bottle, our dying thirst causing problems. Stand at dawn, the beginning of something heartfelt and replaceable." No matter where we are, this is what it has come to in this age. So let's listen to these gentlemen and rock out together.

"…intense, guitar heavy thrash that would make even Municipal Waste step back in awe." Alternative Press
"…they dare to approach the maniacal majesty of present-day High on Fire." Decibel Magazine
"…unpretentious, mountainous rock…frequently sound like Mastodon at their most straightforward, coming impressively close to that band's mastery of the riff." Terrorizer Magazine

BISON B.C. get a custom beer!
[05/12/08] Great news for BISON B.C. since they are getting what every band dreams of. A custom beer!
We wanna say a huge thanks to our bros over at Phillips Brewery on Vancouver Island for making a dream come true. We think this is pretty fucking rad, and apparently so does the Georgia Straight, check it out....

Since its still not strictly legal to hand out chunks of Red Lebanese to the public, organizers came up with the next best thing to promote local metal maniacs BISON B.C.s appearance at this weeks Transmission Conference. For one night only, Bison Beer will be served when the band joins the bill at the former Storyeum building (151 Cordova Street) on Friday (December 5).
According to Matt Phillips, CEO of Victorias Phillips Brewing Company, it was producer Tyl van Toorns idea. I dont know how serious it was, Phillips told the Straight, but I guess there were some negotiations going on to get them to play, and Tyl said, Well get a beer done for you. The price was right for the band, and Phillips Brewing got the job of relabelling its popular Phoenix Gold lager with amended cover artwork from BISON B.C.s Quiet Earth album. Not that any such precautions are needed, but the label also reads Please Dont Throw Me At the Stage.
Phillips said that the company is producing about 30 dozen cases of Bison Beer, but wouldnt say how many were going straight to singer-guitarist James Farwell and his cohorts. Theres some stuff that I just dont know if I can disclose, he said.
