2006 - Fredrik Andersson about the upcoming DVD

Hey! Soon you’re about to release your first DVD “Wrath Of The Norsemen”. The basic track of this DVD is a show that you recorded in Cologne last year. What can you tell us about this show?
Well, first of all what we can tell you is that it was the longest set in our history. I think we played for 2 hrs and 15 min! The reason we did that was because we wanted to squeeze in as many songs as possible so we wouldn’t leave any fans disappointed.. However, we’ve learnt that’s not possible unless we play all our songs, haha.

What are your feelings now when you think about this special gig in Cologne which featured some real Viking action on stage and the longest Amon Amarth setlist ever?
We’re excited to see how it turned out. We have really high expectations on the final product. I guess in a way we tried to do what we would want to see on a DVD.

The rest of the DVD contains several shows from Wacken Open Air, Summer Breeze, Metal Blade’s 10th Anniversary show and a special “Fate Of Norns” release show in Ludwigsburg. Do you have any special memories about those shows?
Of course! The Wacken show is very special just in it self. We were pissed off that they had moved our slot to the last one at 2 am without letting us know. We didn’t really expect all those crazy metal fans to still be awake by the time we started playing. But they certainly were and it was an amazing show!

Summer Breeze is my personal favourite festival and I’ve been there every year since our first show in 2002. I was even the only one to still go there the year we had to cancel the show because of my broken collar bone!

The sold-out release show was just awesome. It was a great feeling to get that response and support. And we could almost feel the expectations in the air when we went on stage.

At the anniversary show we had been requested to play an extraordinary set list with all the songs we usually don’t play. That was sort of a shock I guess – both to the fans and to ourselves, haha. It was really fun.

This summer you’re going to headline Wacken Open Air once again. What can the fans expect from this show?
They can expect the coolest Amon Amarth show ever!

Right now you’re in the studio working on new material for your new yet untitled album. Can you already give us some hints what the new songs will sound like?
All I can say is that no one is going to be disappointed!

Are there any touring plans after the release of your upcoming album?
Well, first of all we are going to do a 4 week tour in USA again in September, right before the CD is released. But when the new album is coming out we’re going to do a full European headlining tour sometime in October – November and we will bring some really cool bands with us on that tour. I think it’ll be an awesome package!

Can you tell our readers what your current favourite CDs are and why?
TOOL – “10.000 Days”. Simply ‘cause it’s been 5 years but I was also blown away by the sound of the drums on it. BOLT THROWER – “Those Once Loyal” is in my opinion one of their best albums. SATYRICON – “Now, Diabolical”. Didn’t like it at first when I just heard “K.I.N.G.”, but the rest of the album is pretty cool.

Who is going to win the FIFA world championships this year?
Sweden!
