2006 - Fredrik Andersson about 'With Oden On Our Side'
Hey! Soon you’re about to release your new album “With Oden On Our Side”. How happy are you with the result?
We’re very happy. In fact, and I know it sounds like a cliché, but we’ve never been as happy with any recording before. The new album turned out almost exactly the way we wanted. We felt during the writing process that these were the strongest and best songs we’ve ever done so we had really high expectations on the recording. Of course in the end there’s always some things you wish you had done differently or some little thing you’re not happy with, but that’s just normal. All in all this is the best album we’ve ever done!
Did you feel any pressure while recording the new album regarding the fact that “Fate Of Norns” was your most successful album to date?
Not really. We only knew we had to top FON. And as the new songs started to take shape there was no doubt we would.
Rumours say that “With Oden On Our Side” is the most diverse, most accentuated, best sounding record you ever made. Are these rumours true?
Very much so.
You changed the producer. How was it to work with Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studio?
It was good. He’s very serious about his work and I’ve never seen a bigger workaholic ever! He’s even worse than Peter Tägtgren. We usually started the day at 8 in the morning, took a lunch break at 2. Then Jens could keep on going until 7-8 at night, sometimes even longer. Really insane. But he was very easy to work with. Usually it can be hard to get along with someone who has ideas on how you should play your own songs, but with Jens we all got along really well.
You already previewed one new song at some festivals this summer? How were the reactions by the crowd?
We only played it at Metal Camp in Slovenia so far and it’s hard to tell what the reactions were. I didn’t get a chance to talk to anyone either after the show so haven’t heard any comments from the fans. Everyone who’s heard the album so far though has said it’s really good.
How is the feeling to have Oden on your side?
It’s a confident feeling, like you feel really sure about yourself. Fearless.
You’re going to tour Europe in autumn? What can the fans expect?
It’s going to be the biggest club show we’ve ever put on. And we’re going to try to visit every country in Europe this time, not only central Europe like last time. We’re also bringing some really cool bands with us.
In your last interview you stated that Sweden is going to win the World Cup. How was the feeling when they were defeated by Germany? (Sorry for this question, buddy!)
To be honest, I couldn’t care less. When I answered that question I had to ask Ted who was going to win because I frankly didn’t even know what teams were in the world cup. I saw the game though and it was a laugh. Better luck next time I guess.
