2007 - Joey Eppard about 'The End Is Begun'
Hey, Joey! How are you? Finally you are back with a new album! Congrats! What has basically changed since “Wake Pig”?
The evolution continues. This is a more epic recording of the band. The sounds are bigger. The songs are full of surprises. Also this is more of a collective effort in terms of the musical production.
The album is called “The End Is Begun” – what’s behind that title? What does the album deal with?
Its hard not to get caught up in all the doomsday prophecy floating around these days. Yeah, I know every generation thinks its the last, but the truth is, we are on the verge of an ending of sorts. We have to be. We can choose to end the cycle of violence, of needless suffering and the abuse of our planet’s resources. Or we can choose to allow the end to consume us. Either way, we must live with the consequences of our actions or inactions. We determine whether the end is a good or bad thing.
And what does the cover deal with?
Originally the idea was a girl’s hand holding 3 blue balloons rising up out of dark water. For whatever reason the artist, DAMNENGINE, didn’t think it worked and came up with a different version. He’d been listening to rough cuts of the album and when he sent us his version and we all loved it. The girl and the balloons represent hope amidst the chaos. She is the apex of evolution, a survivor and saviour. An Indigo child whose mere presence is fatal to the forces of illusion.
As we can see, you changed your logo and the band name is announced now… why that?
We still use both logos, but we felt the word was more fitting for this record. It was also to eliminate some confusion, as certain brain types cannot see the 3 in our original logo.
You played the Metal Blade 25th Anniversary not that long ago at the New England Metal & Hardcore Fest – how was it playing with all the brutal styled bands…?
It went surprisingly well. We all felt it, the turning of the tide. We won the audience over, ESP sent me 3 guitars after seeing us play that show.
You also went to Europe the first time… how was this experience?
It was great. We love Europe we can’t wait to come back!
What are your plans for 2007?
Word on the street is that we’ll be touring with Porcupine Tree and then Dream Theater, in the US and Europe alike.
Thx for your time, Joey! Any last words to say?
Thank you! Be well, -joey
