IPSISSIMUS signs worldwide deal with Metal Blade Records
East coast based black metalers Ipsissimus to enter the studio to record debut full-length album
Metal Blade Records is pleased to announce the signing of New Haven, CT black metal band IPSISSIMUS. The band inked a worldwide deal with Metal Blade Records and will be entering Sonic Environments studio in Bloomfield, CT to record their first full-length album and Metal Blade debut. Longtime friend of His Emissary, Jeff Weed, is not only the owner of Sonic Environments studio but has also stepped in as the band's "sonic alchemist" (aka engineer/producer). IPSISSIMUS began recording in June 2010 and are taking a short break before returning to Sonic Environments studio in early September to finish the record. Their feature full-length will include the band's EP Three Secrets of Fatima along with three new songs.
IPSISSIMUS drummer Haimatokharmes comments; "Metal Blade is a label that has been home to artists brutal, technical, filthy, blasting, wildly successful, and, most importantly, unique. Ipsissimus is very proud to join this family, and looks forward to adoring the Goat with them by producing ritual black metal that is truly ipsissima!"
"A 3 piece black metal symphony that is at the forefront of the American Black Metal movement
IPSISSIMUS is technical yet punishing, perfect for Metal Blade Records and fans of our brand of metal," adds Michael Faley, President of Metal Blade Records.
IPSISSIMUS has a handful of upcoming one-off shows that sees the band sharing the stage with the likes of The Absence, Skeletonwitch, Withered, Landmine Marathon, Unearthly Trance, Black Pyramid, Suma, and more. See dates below.
Sept 28th is the Black Anvil CD release at the Studio @ Webster Hall in NYC with The Absence
Sept 30th is "Metal Thursday CV" @ Ralph's Chadwick Square Rock Diner in Worcester with Unearthly Trance, Suma (from Sweden) and Black Pyramid
Oct 21st, "Born of Fire" presents Ipsissimus and Nachzehrer along with a screening of the cult classic "Alucarda" @ O'Brien's in Allston, MA
October 30th @ Club Oasis in Worcester with Scaphism, Despoilment, Wreckoning, Sarcomancy and Deconformity
November 28th @ Lilly's Pad (Toad's Place upstairs) in New Haven with Skeletonwitch, Withered and Landmine Marathon
IPSISSIMUS is:
Tichondrius: Bass / Vocals
Haimatokharmes: Drums
His Emissary: Guitar
About the band:
IPSISSIMUS was founded when His Emissary (guitars) and Haimatokharmes (drums) met by providence on 6/6/06 in New Haven, CT, and found in one another worthy vessels of channeling the occult philosophies into ritual Black Metal. In November of that year, Tichondrius (bass/vocals) completed the trinity. Within a month they were playing concerts and released the demo Trampling the Host, a potent exercise in raw, blasting Black Metal. Over the following years, they established a reputation across New England for technical yet raw live performances, sharing the stage with both local and established Black Metal groups, such as Nachtmystium, Enslaved, Dark Funeral, Krallice, and Watain. In February 2008, IPSISSIMUS independently released the Three Secrets of Fatima EP, a complex and melodic triptych that thrust them to the forefront of the burgeoning American Black Metal scene. In June, IPSISSIMUS played the Three Secrets of Fatima EP start to finish to a very enthusiastic crowd when the band opened up for legendary EYEHATEGOD and Nachtmystium. Matching their music to orations of black piety that draw from esoteric traditions antique and modern, often composed in the dead tongues of the ancients themselves, IPSISSIMUS initiates the listener to a Left-Hand Gnosis with a unique and irrefutable statement of American Black Metal.

BEHEMOTH's Nergal answers back to the overwhelming response of those offering to set up benefits in the vocalists honor
Singer's main goal is to raise awareness and get people involved by registering to be a bone marrow donor
Since news on Nergal's recent health issues has been released, the band, management, and label has received an overwhelming response from fans and bands all over the world asking how they can directly help Nergal. In response to everyone offering his or her help in terms of setting up benefits and shows to raise money for the frontman of the Polish blackened death metal band BEHEMOTH, Nergal has issued the following statement:
"I haven't intended to manifest myself in any way and, especially at this stage, to share my feelings or any other news with the world for obvious reasons. It is simply too early for it. But it was YOU who provoked me to say a few words. Regarding my personal low opinion of humankind, I'm shocked by the reaction to my illness. I actually expected NOTHING yet received feedback which surpassed all expectations. I want to ensure you I read EACH mail I receive, although I'm unable to reply to all of them. The power of your words is pure magic and I thank you all for it. You are a gigantic indestructible army that truly inspires me in this difficult time. The fact is that a fight with this illness is going to last for many months. Most of this time I will spend in hospital and I will go through various psychophysical states. If you know the history of Behemoth you also know we achieved everything by hard work and a steely determination. The same goes for my private life. I happen to be a strong son of a bitch. I have no faith but rely on a 100% victory and I am sure I will get out of it stronger than ever. Sun Tzu in his 'Art of War' said that if you know your enemy and yourself the result of a thousand battles will not surprise you… I enter the ring with this Nietzschean attitude and I will leave it as a winner, as usual. Just watch and see!
So I want to emphasize that Behemoth will by no means goes through any hibernation state. Obviously all concert plans must be postponed until some unknown point in the future, but things are happening! Lately our newest video for '…Alas, Lord is Upon Me' has premiered and stirred up quite a storm in mass media, which fills us with utter pride. Plus we've just finished the project of our new DVD; Evangelia Heretika is a three disc release, a real encyclopedia of Behemoth with nearly 5 hours of material and a bonus audio CD that will be out in November (Metal Blade US - Nuclear Blast Europe). Expect an experience of visual madness as we went to hell and back to make it! Our official Webstore has been functional for a couple of days and official merchandise and some very exclusive stuff can be bought there. At the beginning of 2011, Peaceville in Europe and Metal Blade in US will reissue the EPs with new artwork, bonuses, liner notes, and more. As you can see, despite a complicated situation and difficult circumstances we're remaining active wherever we can.
Finally, I want to comment on some opinions which, provoked by religious circles, lead to far-fetched and inaccurate interpretations. I was surprised to hear my illness became a pretext for some people to embark on their own crusade. Opinions suggesting I might come closer to God or abandon my ideals and grovel to the only correct world view in this country not only surprised but also frightened me. This is a typical example of supporting one's own views by preying on someone's misfortune. 'He fell ill so he will convert to Christianity, he will discover the religion he fought against is actually close to him.' Halt! Why should the illness change my point of view? It is true this is a difficult time for me and the thoughts of ultimate matters are hard to chase away. But the idea that I will change my opinions, priorities, and values as a consequence of my illness sounds as if someone regards my head, and not my body, ill. Suggesting I might convert are ridiculous. To what would I convert? After all, I know Christian mythology pretty well, not only in its literary version, and I find nothing good, creative or beautiful in it. I read books better and wiser than the Bible. War, blood, blackmail, rapes, incest, pedophilia, zoophilia, collaboration and treachery each page emanates with evil. Some may say I don't understand the message of the Bible. I'd rather say the Christianity is nothing more than a rusty and archaic structure that is going to fall down any moment. It lasts only because of the gullible that follow the shepherd blindly; without any questions, without any consideration, not to any promised land, but to an intellectual slaughter. So, I say to those, who see some chances to break my rules, and myself because of the illness: over my dead body!"
Nergal's official view on benefit concerts, fund raisers, etc. is focused on marrow donations as a whole issue, not his specific situation. If you want to help Nergal the best thing you can do is set up a marrow drive or register to be a bone marrow donor. Every person that registers to be a donor increases the chances of survival for Nergal and every other person out there suffering from the same illness.

About the band:
Tampa, FL area natives THE ABSENCE laid waste to an unsuspecting metal community with their debut Metal Blade Records album, From Your Grave, and after nearly two years of touring the guys returned in 2007 with their fan and critic acclaimed release Riders of the Plague. Riders of the Plague was recorded at Erik Rutan's Mana Studios in February / March 2007 with Swedish producer Jonas Kjellgren (Scar Symmetry, Carnal Forge). THE ABSENCE has returned to the metal scene heavier than ever with their third full-length album, Enemy Unbound; a metal masterpiece full of the band's brand of high flying guitar histrionics and melodies fans and critics alike have grown to love.
Vocalist Jamie Stewart continues to push himself vocally, spewing forth his grim lyrics with more force and violence than ever before. Guitarists Peter Joseph and Patrick Pintavalle deliver blistering solos, harmony-filled leads, and a level of technicality that is off the charts, growing as musicians with every album they deliver. Original drummer, and one of the founding members of THE ABSENCE, Jeramie Kling is back behind the kit and will be joining the band on the road as they tour in support of Enemy Unbound. Jeramie will undoubtedly continue where he left off, acting as the tight backbone needed to hold together the band's speedy melodic onslaught. With their latest offering, Enemy Unbound, THE ABSENCE deliver a stylish and flavored melodic death/thrash metal album that is sure to please both fans and critics alike.
Enemy Unbound was once again recorded at the famed, Erik Rutan-owned, Mana Studios in St. Petersburg, FL in November 2009 with Brian Elliott engineering and Peter Joseph and Patrick Pintavalle producing the album. Going along with the saying 'if it's not broke, don't fix it,' the band went to Sweden's Jonas Kjellgren (Scar Symmetry, Carnal Forge) of Black Lounge Studios who handled both mixing and mastering on Enemy Unbound. Guest musicians on the album include Tom Englund of Evergrey and Andy Wood.
The Absence have toured with the likes Cannibal Corpse, The Black Dahlia Murder, Vital Remains, Goatwhore, The Red Chord, Vader, Kataklysm, Grave, Nuclear Assault, Destruction, Through the Eyes of the Dead, Entombed, Dismember, Vivisec, Unmerciful, Dead to Fall, and Ion Dissonance just to name a few. Each stop on every tour has earned THE ABSENCE legions of new fans, which is something that will surely continue through the release of Enemy Unbound as the band tours through the states, Canada, and Europe in support of their highly anticipated release.

Jamie Stewart vocals
Peter Joseph guitar
Patrick Pintavalle guitar

BEHEMOTH's Nergal brings awareness to the need for bone marrow donors
BEHEMOTH leader Nergal has just found out he needs a marrow transplant to fight the sickness he has recently been diagnosed with (leukemia). In light of this he wants to remind everyone about the need to be on the marrow registry. The more people get tested and donate, the more of a chance for life there is for him and people in the same situation.
BEHEMOTH and Metal Blade would like to thank everyone for their support and well wishes during this difficult time. The best thing we can all do right now is learn about the marrow donation process, not only help save one of metal's leaders, but to also help save countless others out there struggling with the same disease.
To learn more about how you can register to donate marrow check out:

THE OCEAN reveal track listing and details on "Anthropocentric"
European tour dates with The Dillinger Escape Plan, Cancer Bats
The Ocean are currently in the process of mixing their upcoming album Anthropocentric at Studio Mecanique in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, the same place where Heliocentric was recorded and mixed. The album will be mastered on August 25th by Svante Forsbδck in Helsinki.
Musically, the album feels somehow heavier than Heliocentric. "The sound is more dense and maybe a tad more raw, which suits the songs perfectly", comments guitar player Jonathan Nido. The album covers a similar sonic and dynamic range as Heliocentric, also including a number of calm, acoustic moments but these are for the most part orchestrated with guitars, and not so much with piano and string section. The focus is on the heavy songs: "The album is a pretty big production, and still has a very earthy, organic feel to it", comments Staps. "We have spent a great deal of time on the basic sound this time around, drums, bass, guitars and vocals… and at this stage I am pretty confident that this will pay off in the end!"
As far as the concepts behind Anthropocentric are concerned, the focus is on man and his place in the universe: at the center, as many fundamental Christians still claim today, or more likely a dust particle in its periphery? All lyrics are circling around this question. "Anthropocentric will continue the critique of christianity, inspired by the questions that Dostoyevsky asked and some of the answers that Friedrich Nietzsche and Richard Dawkins gave", comments Staps.
At the base of the album are three songs with the titles "The Grand Inquisitor I, II and III". These songs have been inspired by the chapter of the same title in Fjodor Dostoyevsky's novel The Brothers Karamasov: a conversation between the brothers Ivan, an atheist, and Alyoscha, a monk. Ivan tells Alyoscha the story of a Second Coming of Christ in 16th century Sevilla. According to this parable, Jesus is arrested by the Catholic inquisition. The grand inquisitor who interrogates Jesus casts a new light on the legend of the temptation of Christ: he reproaches Jesus with having betrayed humanity and having deprived man of salvation by giving him freedom. The conversation between Ivan and Alyoscha mirrors, to some degree, the conversation between the grand inquisitor and Christ and raises more questions than it answers. "This long dialogue, which for the most part is rather a monologue of Ivan, is so complex and recondite that one could easily find inspiration for 10 concept albums about Christianity in it", comments Staps.
Only 6 guest musicians are appearing on the album, all classical musicians, most of whom are guesting on the final track of the album. Anthropocentric is an album by The Ocean's consolidated nucleus. "It is the first album where all members have actively partaken in the songwriting", comments Staps.
The track listing for Anthropocentric is as follows:
1. Anthropocentric
2. The Grand Inquisitor I: Karamazov baseness
3. She Was The Universe
4. For He That Wavereth…
5. The Grand Inquisitor II: Roots & Locusts
6. The Grand Inquisitor III: A Tiny Grain of Faith
7. Sewers Of The Soul
8. Wille Zum Untergang
9. Heaven TV
10. The Almightiness Contradiction
11. The Grand Inquisitor IV: Exclusion From Redemption
The last track is a bonus track which will only appear on the vinyl and the limited European deluxe digipak version.

About the band:
Founded in the summer of 2008, SYSTEM DIVIDE quickly became a transnational project. The band set out to revolutionize the conventions of the over-saturated melodic death metal genre, proving that extreme metal can have more depth than blast beats, while female vocals do not have to conform to the precepts of the "Goth" genre. In mixing many styles, The Collapse, the band's debut EP, breaks all the rules of extreme metal and is a landmark release for the new band.
As opposed to interjecting simple, predictable clean choruses into contrived song structures, SYSTEM DIVIDE unites serene female vocals and extreme vocals driven by lyrical themes that confront and seek to break everyday themes of disillusionment, societal materialism, and individual apathy. Musically, the band delivers myriad styles of riffing and grooves, while augmenting the entrancing soundscapes with hard-hitting drums and intricate bass lines. These elements together define the unique, spell binding, hypnotic sound of SYSTEM DIVIDE.
In order to achieve this complex calculus of sounds on The Collapse, Cole Martinez handled tracking duties at Conquistador Recordings. Mixing and mastering duties were handled by Jacob Hansen (Aborted, HateSphere, Volbeat) at Hansen Studios in Denmark in April and May 2009. Artwork for The Collapse was completed by Colin Marks (Strapping Young Lad, Aborted, Nevermore). The result is a sonic and visual masterpiece that metal has eagerly been waiting for.
The band recruited Michael Wilson (ex-Abigail Williams) as a second guitarist after the release of The Collapse EP and continued writing material for its first full length, The Conscious Sedation, which will be available online and in stores everywhere September 14, 2010. Following the philosophy of 'if it isn't broken, don't fix it,' the band once again recorded with producer/engineer Cole Martinez. Mixing and mastering for The Conscious Sedation was handled by the infamous James Murphy (Aborted, SWWAATS, Lazarus AD, Sigh, Arsis).

FORGING THE ECLIPSE combines a lot of elements that have been typical for Neaera for years. Means the songs are brutal, but straight forward, melodic and excellent to shout along with. Thanks to the great work of producers Ali Dietz, Andy Classen and Tue Madsen we are more than pleased with the result, in fact the album is hammering us a fat smile onto our faces! And I΄m pretty sure that some of you will feel the same…"
The graphical realization of 'Forging The Eclipse' was in the hands of long-time Neaera partner Terje Johnsen (Keep Of Kalessin a.o.). The visualization of the album title ends up in a plain, straightforward but concise concept.
'Forging The Eclipse' will be released as a limited Digipak on the 22nd/25th of October 2010 via Metal Blade Records in Europe!
From the 28th of November on NEAERA will destroy European cities and stages with their mates in ALL THAT REMAINS, CALIBAN, SOILWORK and BLEED FROM WITHIN.

Armored Saint announces Bay Area show for Saturday, October 16th!
Armored Saint will be playing at The Avalon in Santa Clara, CA on Saturday, October 16th! The guys had planned on only playing one show this year but wanted to bring the Saint up to the bay area before the year was through.
Joey Vera adds; "We know we said that our Los Angeles show in May was going to be our only show this year, but some things changed with John Bushs availability so we decided to play a show for our Bay Area brothers and sisters. Come on out!"

"The Saint sound exuberant and fully bonded…a contemporary classic rock feel accessible enough to take on Audioslave or Velvet Revolver on their own terms, and win hard." Terrorizer Magazine
"La Raza is balls out and brick heavy." Outburn Magazine
"Simply put, this is the finest record of their career and almost a reaffirmation of the reasons why John and Joey turned down Metallica all those years ago." Metal Hammer Magazine

NIGHTFALL launch video for "Ambassador Of Mass" exclusively on metalblade.com/nightfall!
Greek Metal Gods NIGHTFALL have launched the first video clip for their upcoming new album Astron Black And The Thirty Tyrants on their landing page. Click HERE to check out the video for the song "Ambassador Of Mass"!
NIGHTFALL singer Efthimis Karadimas comments the clip: "The story depicted is inspired by the Greco-Persian wars in the 5th century BC. The video is purely based on the ancient technique of Shadow Puppet Theatre evolved and widely used in different areas of the world eons ago. Every character, ship, map, etc you see in it has been built from scratch especially for that motion clip. The video has been directed by Achilleas Gatsopoulos, a prominent master of visual arts, based in the city of Berlin. I am sure you haven't seen anything similar around!"
Comments director Achilleas Gatsopoulos: "After our initial talks and meetings with Efthimis, we decided to approach the video in a challenging and unconventional way. We chose to use shadow puppetry and push its boundaries through modern technology in order to create something really unique; something that could best convey the epic scale of our story. Considerable research ensued, and the storyline was constructed according to the structure and lyrics of the song, sprinkled with a touch of mythology, while staying true to the actual historical facts. The design and construction of the puppets were done in collaboration with fine artist Hara Kolaiti, referencing on the one hand the Ancient Greek vases' depictions of greek warriors of the time, and on the other, the numerous detailed reliefs of Xerxes and his warriors in Persepolis. In total, more than thirty meticulously detailed puppets and backgrounds were created for the video. These were shot one by one and then composited into scenes digitally. The aim was to take Shadow Puppetry as a traditional medium, and explore its cinematic potential. Thus, scenes were created both in two dimensional space, as well as in three dimensional epic camera shots. The result is a truly original and unconventional music video that best complements Efthimis' musical vision."
The band claims Astron Black And The Thirty Tyrants is the best NIGHTFALL album so far, raising expectations to the maximum. "We have worked hard and we've put lots energy and effort in the details of the production. The outcome is massive and believe can attract any metal fan's attention."
The powerful Athenian act is now running on an ingenious combustible engine made of Greek, American and German blend and is aiming high. Dare to join!
The album's artwork has been created by Travis Smith (Opeth, Death, Nevermore, Katatonia a.o.). It is unique and beyond Mr. Smith's typical patterns.
'Astron Black And The Thirty Tyrants' was recorded in various places with Soundlodge (Germany) being the main studio. It has been produced by Efthimis Karadimas ('Athenian Echoes') and co produced by Jorg Uken (known from his work with God Dethroned, Dew Scented, and Sinister).

OSI (Office of Strategic Influence) is an American progressive experimental super-group formed by Fates Warning guitarist Jim Matheos back in 2003 and features the talents of Kevin Moore (Chroma Key, Dream Theater). The band's name refers to the short-lived US government agency Office of Strategic Influence which was established shortly after 9/11 to manufacture and promote pro-US propaganda in domestic and foreign media. OSI inked a deal with Metal Blade Records back in May and is currently working on their fourth album and Metal Blade debut, which will be out in 2011. The band gained a strong underground following through the release of their 3 full-length records and an EP. Their 2009 album, Blood and includes guests Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree) and Mikael Εkerfeldt (Opeth). Past participants include Mike Portnoy on the first two albums, Sean Malone and Steven Wilson on the debut, and Joey Vera (Armored Saint, Fates Warning) on Free.
OSI's music can't easily be pigeonholed and is a completely different animal when compared to its founders' other projects. The music is a combination of dark rock chorus' with atmospheric, often industrial keys and is an eclectic mix of both Moore's and Matheos' influences.

Intergalactic rockers GWAR announce shows in Australia and New Zealand as part of their upcoming "Bloody Tour of Horror"
World Leaders convene emergency bong-session as GWAR's 25th Anniversary continues to grow in girth
"We are going to rape the shit out of some hobbits," declared GWAR "singer", Oderus Urungus (pictured above). "And I don't even care if they are humans dressed up in hobbit costumes, that shit turns me on…"

In other GWAR news, the boys have just finished up a hugely successful European tour, which included eye-popping performances at the Bloodstock, Summer Breeze, and Sziget festivals, as well as a packed gig in the heart of the Kreuzberg, at Berlin's famous SO36 Club. This followed the completion of tracks for their new album, "GWAR's Bloody Pit of Horror" out this November on Metal Blade Records in the U.S., AFM in Europe, and distributed by King Records in Asia. There is no doubt that as GWAR's 25th Anniversary approaches its halfway point, making the event a two-year celebration was a good idea.
"What does time matter, anyway?" said Oderus, reached via carrier-pigeon at the group's Antarctic stronghold. "If things keep going this well, we will add more years as needed…then, when we finally have drained every drop of hype we possibly can from our 25th Anniversary, we will proceed directly to our 50th, which we will celebrate for an indefinite period."
