AS I LAY DYING will be entering the studio this Spring to record their fifth full length album and follow-up to 2010's The Powerless Rise, which debuted on the Billboard Top 200 Charts at #10. The band has chosen a producer and will announce more details about the album in the coming weeks. The album's release date is tentatively scheduled for this summer.

PILGRIM: Rhode Island Doom Trio Premiere New Song on Brooklyn Vegan
Today BrooklynVegan premieres "Quest," the latest single from Rhode Island doom dooers PILGRIM. "Quest" is the third track off the band's forthcoming debut full-length, Misery Wizard, set for North American release on February 14, 2012.
Commented the band in a collective statement: "'Quest' was one of our first songs. It has a special place in our hearts. It tells the tale of a man's grueling journey through a desert to obtain an ancient relic locked away in a palace for thousands of years."

PILGRIM are the latest addition to the Metal Blade roster via Alan Nemtheanga's imprint, Poison Tongue Records. Said Pure Grain Audio in an advance review of the record: "PILGRIM is a massive slab of slow-burning, sludgy doom metal. This is true doom metal, not the hybrid bile that so many bands are passing off as doom these days. The monster riffs will bludgeon you senseless and shake you to the core, but you'll keep coming back from more, willingly and repeatedly." Added Sea Of Tranquility, "slow, ponderous, crushing doom, owing much to vintage Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Pentagram, and the like. Two-time JUNO-nominated CANCER BATS will release their fourth full-length album Dead Set On Living, on April 24, 2012 via Metal Blade Records in North America. Once again utilizing the legendary Vespa Studios and producers Eric Ratz and Kenny Luong, Dead Set On Living brings yet another dimension to the Bats' menacing style of thrash-tinged hardcore rock. Cormier adds: "We really strived for that raw, off-the-floor vibe this time around, it's really the bridge between our live show and what we put on record."
Tracks like "R.A.T.S." (Featuring guest vocals from Rob Urbinati of Sacrifice) and "The Void" are laced with the gritty, sludgy groove that first emerged on cuts from 2008's Hail Destroyer, while the blistering first single "Old Blood" roars with the riot-inducing speed and aggression so familiar to the band's fans. The blazing "Bastards!" also features vocal boosts from DevilDriver's Dez Fafara and An Horse's Kate Cooper. "We've been very lucky to experiment as much as we have," Cormier offers, crediting the band's loyal following for their fortune. "I love that we can have thrash songs, hardcore songs, and the more Queens of the Stone Age or Kyuss kind of groove-based tunes."
Thematically, the album offers a strong focus on the bilateral relationship of dark and light, destruction and construction, life and death. The title track, for example, refers to a close friend of the band who ended up in the hospital in serious condition; only to have the experience cement his will to survive. "Road Sick," as the title may imply, finds Cormier struggling with the hardships that come with a career spent on the road. "Our lives are all about touring, but that song is more universal," Cormier reveals. "It's really for anyone away from their loved ones, dealing with that situation."
Still, whereas 2010's Bears, Mayors, Scraps & Bones had a much darker tinge, DSOL strikes a tighter balance between the opposing forces and brings listeners closer to the light at the end of the tunnel by encouraging them to push through peril. "We all reach these dark places where we feel angry or alone," says the singer, "but that gives us a reason to pick ourselves up and strive to make something better."
Since first turning heads with 2006's Birthing The Giant, Cancer Bats, made up of Liam Cormier (vocals), Scott Middleton (Guitar), Mike Peters (drums) and Jaye Schwarzer (bass) are one of the hardest working bands in the music industry. The band spent close to 300 days away from home in 2011, and will likely come close to that in 2012.
The Cancer Bats recently revealed to fans that on April 21, 2012 in London, UK, they would play six shows in five different venues, all within the space of 24 hours. Dubbed the 'Pentagram' tour (the location of the venues when joined together form the shape of a pentagram), all six shows sold out in the first week. A spring cross-Canada tour in support of DSOL is in the works, with dates to be announced soon.

UK tour with Alestorm kicks off February 4th
Ireland's Darkest Era has partnered up with BloodyDisgusting.com to debut their new video for An Ancient Fire Burns. The song comes from their debut album, The Last Caress of Light, which was highlighted in Decibel's Top 40 Extreme Albums of 2011. The video features a grim story with a surprise ending and is as melancholy and emotional as the band's music and was directed by Kieran Majury with Fastville Productions.

Comments guitarist Ade Mulgrew: "An Ancient Fire Burns is a song about primal instincts and desire; and in this video we used a narrative that we really hope will grip people. It's an old school buried-alive-in-coffin concept that compliments the themes in the song. We also shot the band's performance by torchlight in a 1000 year old monastery, once plundered by Vikings. It was a great setting and really adds to the atmosphere in the video."

The Last Caress of Light was recorded at Foel Studios in Wales at the end of August 2010 with producer Chris Fielding. The result are eight tracks of dark, stormy, epic Celtic Metal with which mix the melancholy and atmosphere of Irish Folk with the epic might of heavy metal bands such as Warlord, Iron Maiden and Thin Lizzy. The album stands out from all else as a record of intense emotional power and honesty; holding the listener within a dark heavy metal storm and not letting go until the last chords have rung out.

GWAR Announces Spring Leg of the "Return of the World Maggot Tour"
After a brief arctic slumber your Lords and Masters GWAR will be returning to the road this Spring on the second leg of their "Return of the World Maggot Tour". The tour kicks off with a special tribute show for fallen band mate and friend Cory Smoot, AKA Flattus Maximus, in Richmond, VA, at The National Theater on Friday March 16th. All proceeds from the Richmond show will benefit the "Smoot Family Fund" which has been established to help support Cory's widow and their unborn child. Support on this run will come from fellow Richmond metallers Municipal Waste and California's Ghoul. Legacy of Disorder will join the tour on March 20th in Boston and the tour will run through April 11th in Fort Collins, CO.
Tickets for fan club members go on sale tomorrow January 25th and tickets will go on sale to the general public Friday January 27th and Saturday January 28th.

We will continue as a four-piece, with the special tribute to Flattus at the end of the show, in order to give our fans a chance to say goodbye to our fallen Scumdog brother in true GWAR fashion—covered in blood and rocking the fuck out! After this tour is over we can start looking to the future and begin to put this tragedy behind us. But for now we are still in "Hail Flattus" mode!"
