Woe Of Tyrants Unveil Album Title, Release Date for Third Album!
Woe Of Tyrants spent the entirety of 2009 criss-crossing the US on a multitude of tours. After the grueling schedule came to a close, did they head home to rest and take some time off? NOPE! They dove right into songwriting for the follow up to their sophomore album and Metal Blade debut, Kingdom Of Might. This time around, the guys have seriously turned up the shred-knob and churned out some of the most exciting songs we've heard swirling around the Metal Blade offices in quite some time. On this record, you'll find equal parts speed, groove and over the top guitar soloing. Headbanging will be mandatory.
The new album, Threnody, will be released worldwide on April 13th while the band will be on the road with Overkill and Vader. The artwork and first track will be up on the band's myspace, myspace.com/wot, in the coming weeks. Before then, SiriusXM Liquid Metal listeners will be treated to an exclusive premiere of the first single, Creatures Of The Mire on Friday, February 12th.
Vocalist Chris Catanzaro discusses the themes of Threnody:
“Well 2009 proved to be a monstrous one for Woe of Tyrants. It was a year of accomplishing goals such as releasing our debut Metal Blade album, touring with bands we've grown up listening to, and meeting thousands of awesome people all over the country. As we embark into 2010, our goals have shifted up a few gears. We have a brand baby spankin' new record that we finished recording at the end of 2009 with Jamie King producing, and to embrace the cliché "this is the most epic brutal stuff we've ever done and we're stoked on it!" The album is entitled Threnody. Now for those of us who do not know what that word means right off hand (I had to look it up as I was reading a passage from Ralph Waldo Emerson long ago), a threnody is a song or hymn inspired by the grief of losing someone you love. The album tells a story of a non-specific individual traveling between planets searching for answers, while paralleling Satan's fall from grace to damnation at the same time. We all experience a change at some point as we travel through life, albeit not of the same magnitude as Lucifer, that will render us either content, or disgusted. When disgust is the feeling, then we begin to miss our former self as if they were an entirely different person. I'd like to be clear that I'm not referring specifically to Christians, or Muslims, or Amish or whatever else the kids are doing these days. Threnody, as we are using it, is a story of grief over losing oneself. This album will surprise those familiar with our band, and hopefully surpass any preconceived notions of those who are listening to us for the first time. If you have expectations for this record to sound like our last two albums, it doesn't. Well, a little like the others, as we still prefer playing leads over doing breakdowns, and we still wish we were Wintersun or Decapitated. But for the most part, this record is new territory for us and we are excited to unleash it.
We have a huge touring schedule kicking off in the spring, preceded by some regional shows in February as a part of the "Metal as Art" tour with Hypno5e, Starring Janet Leigh and Fallen Martyr. At the end of March, we leave on the KILLFEST tour which features Overkill, Vader, God Dethroned, Warbringer and Evile. We couldn't be happier about being involved with such an epic tour, and to join Overkill on their 25th anniversary tour is truly an honor. Much love!"

THE OCEAN announce upcoming album title and track listing, reveal details about upcoming 2 albums
The Ocean’s upcoming albums are going to be entitled Heliocentric and Anthropocentric. They are due for April and October 2010 releases.
The concept at the base of both albums is a critique of Christianity from different philosophical and personal angles.
While the songs, art and lyrics of Heliocentric tell the story of the rise of the heliocentric world view and its effects on Christian belief from medieval times to Darwin and Dawkins, "Anthropocentric" challenges the views of creationists and other modern fundamentalists who still believe that the earth is at the center of the universe.
The tracklisting of Heliocentric is as follows:
1. Shamayim
2. Firmament
3. The First Commandment of the Luminaries
4. Ptolemy Was Wrong
5. Metaphysics of the Hangman
6. Catharsis of a Heretic
7. Swallowed by the Earth
8. Epiphany
9. The Origin of Species
10. The Origin of God
Musically, Heliocentric covers the largest range of dynamics and styles to date: "There are a few really calm songs with mainly piano and vocals, as well as some crushing heavy tunes. There is a very special atmosphere to it that pervades the album", comments guitarist Jonathan Nido.
"Our new vocalist Loic Rossetti has immensely widenened the musical spectrum of this band and there are some songs on the album that even those people who have conceived of this band as being unpredictable and daring would have never imagined", adds Robin Staps. "But this is exactly what makes it a 150% The Ocean album".
Heliocentric" continues where the Proterozoic half of the Precambrian album left off, with dense, epic songs and big orchestrations. Anthropocentric is going to be a bit more straight forward rocking and technical, whilst tapping the full dynamic range from acoustic pieces to eclectic heaviness as well.
The albums were mainly recorded in the mountainous isolation of La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, the highest city of Europe. The band decided to record and mix the album with the band's house sound engineer Julien Fehlmann: "We wanted to be in control of every single detail, and we have an amazing studio at hand here. Soundwise this is by far the best-sounding album we have done to date".
The lyrics and snippets of every song of the album can be previewed at:

Fates Warning to release deluxe edition of “Parallels” on March 16th, 2010!
Fates Warning has announced the release of the deluxe edition of their seminal 1991 album, Parallels! Fans can get their hands on this new take on the album on March 16th, 2010. The deluxe edition has been completely re-mastered and contains well over 3 hours of music and live footage. Parallels is the sixth record from the prog metal pioneers and was one of their music successful releases due to the commercial success of the singles Eye To Eye, Point Of View and We Only Say Goodbye. Also, James LaBrie of Dream Theater fame makes a guest appearance on the track Life In Still Water. Parallels has proven to be one of the most influential albums in the prog and metal genres, despite its hotly debated status among fans as a "commercial" sounding album.
Vocalist Ray Alder comments further, "I think it’s one of the best albums we ever put out and I’m happy that fans have the chance to take a second look at this important record. The lineup, the songs and the cover art all came together to make a great package when originally recorded and the bonus DVD really adds a fresh perspective to the album."

Lazarus A.D. posts first of two behind the scenes video for the making of “Absolute Power”!
This winter, Lazarus A.D. once again teamed up with Vision 4 Films to shoot their next video. Absolute Power will premiere sometime before their upcoming tour with Kreator, Voivod, Nachtmystium and Evile. The video is a bit different than their last two in that it has a bit of a storyline. The video features a brutal underground streetfight; if you're a fan of metal and/or the movieKickboxer, you'll dig this video!
Dan Gapen: "We just shot the new video for our next single "Absolute Power" I would say it was fun but to be honest it was cold, windy and rainy the day of the shoot and I froze my ass off. All I have to say is this fucking video better come out sweet or I’m kicking the directors ass…haha! I think when it’s done everyone will like how it turned out. Jason & Emmitt from Vision4Films are pros at what they do, we can’t say thank you enough. We look forward to seeing everyone on the upcoming Spring tour w/ Kreator and Voivod!"
Of course the video also shows the band doing what they do best: thrashing their asses off. The first of two "making of" clips is live now on Lazarus A.D.'s youtube channel HERE. The guys will be hitting the road this Spring with metal legends Kreator and Voivod along with newcomers Nachtmystium and Evile.
This Saturday, Lazarus A.D. will be direct support for the legendary D.R.I. at The Rave in Milwaukee, WI. More details for that show are online at therave.com.

Anterior introduce new drummer!
Anterior have announced their new drummer is James Cook. After debuting for them in December 2009 he joins the band in the midst of writing their long awaited follow up to 2007's This Age Of Silence, which they are looking to record soon.
"Hey sexy people,
After a long time searching we have finally found a new drummer. If any of you saw us play in December the fine gentlemen behind the kit will now be joining the band full time. We would like to welcome JAMES COOK into the band and are very excited to see what he adds to the fold. He did a great job on our December tour with only a few rehearsals beforehand. He is a great guy and an exceptional musician.
On this note we are still writing for the album and cannot wait to see what James can add to the new material. We will be going into the studio in a few months time to record our second album to be released later this year on Metal Blade records.
Thank you all for your love and support, we hope to see you on the road very soon. Keep checking back for updates.

Psyopus' Chris Arp releases "Exploding Fingers: Finger Tapping Mastery For The Electric Guitar" book!
Fans worldwide have watched Chris Arp play live shows and thought "how the hell does he do that?!?!?". Well now Chris Arp is giving fans a look at how he's developed his finger techniques in his new instructional book: Exploding Fingers: Finger Tapping Mastery For The Electric Guitar. The book features over 300 finger tapping lessons.
The book is available on ebay now HERE.
Chris Arp adds:
"Thank you for considering this instructional book. The purpose of this book is to give its readers an extensive and thorough wealth of guitar tapping exercises meant to challenge and decorate your playing in ways you may have never been familiar with before. The more time you spend digesting, perfecting and incorporating these ideas into your everyday playing, the more you will reap the fruits of this clever, unique and scarcely charted territory. Many of these exercises are geared to develop your ability to travel all over your fret board while utilizing tools at any spot between these frets. Its pages are a gold mine of licks and ideas for the inspiring guitarist looking to bring his playing to a higher level.
This book is not like other books. This book is filled with what I was looking for in the books I grew up with. The book includes 337 exercises, an etude from the song "Kill Us" and a transcription of the instrumental "Imogen's Puzzle"- all utilizing today's most progressive takes on finger tapping. The exercises are written in guitar tablature format to best expose the techniques involved. They are all done in standard tuning (E, A, D, G, B, E)."
"thanks for creating something so amazing for us to learn from!!!! "
"This book blew my dick off! In the best way possible thanks ARPMANDUDE!"
"Received item, looking forward to starting tapping mastery, hail the Arp!!!"
About the author:
Christopher "Arpmandude" Arp was born in September 1977 in Rochester, NY. He started playing the electric guitar in 1991 and focused primarily on progressive styled extreme metal. After winning a number of regional guitar competitions Chris then formed the avante grind/mathcore band Psyopus in 2003. Signing to Black Market Activities in 2004 and then to Metal Blade Records in 2006, Psyopus has 3 internationally released full length albums to date. In 2004 Arpmandude inked his endorsement deal with Ibanez guitars and started writing a guitar column for the national publication Decibel magazine entitled “Dr. Opus PhD”. In 2005 Arpmandude joined up with Hank Williams the III and has since been the touring lead guitarist for Hank III’s metal/punk band Assjack.
