WOE OF TYRANTS
"Threnody"
RELEASED: 04.13.2010
Woe Of Tyrants premiere "Singing Surrender" on Full Metal Jackie!
Full Metal Jackie, North America's largest syndicated metal radio show, is premiering a new track from Woe Of Tyrants' new album, Threnody. Jackie will spin the song the weekend March 26th, so make sure to tune in to the rock radio station nearest you to listen! You can find the station nearest you that carries the show as well as broadcast time on http://www.fullmetaljackieradio.com.

Singing Surrender is the 9th track of the album and has one of the most memorable riffs on the entire record. Vocalist Chris Catanzaro explains further: "Singing Surrender was the first song we completed for our new album "Threnody" and is a personal favorite of ours to play live. Before I named the song we dubbed it ESPN due to the similarities between the opening riff and the theme music for Sportscenter. We still refer to it as ESPN, and probably always will (unless we get sued by Chris Berman or something). Thanks for listening!"

Threnody hits streets April 13th and is available for pre-order now on http://www.metalblade.com/woeoftyrants. Woe Of Tyrants is about to join Overkill on their 25th Anniversary Killfest tour, so make sure to get your tickets now so you don't miss the show! After the Overkill tour, the guys will tag along for a short east coast run with Entombed and Merauder.

Woe Of Tyrants Premiere "Tempting The Wretch" on MetalSucks.net!
Woe Of Tyrants' new album, Threnody, will be in the hands of fans by April 14th. To quench metal heads' collective thirst for quality shredding, our friends at MetalSucks.net will be hosting the exclusive premiere for the album's fourth track, Tempting The Wretch. The song is one that is likely to become a favorite and contains a new element for the band - clean vocals. Don't expect a big hooky chorus, though. You'll just have to listen to the song on MetalSucks.net to hear it for yourself.

Vocalist Chris Catanzaro explains the concept behind the song: "This song was written to describe a point in "Threnody" which our traveler is within a dream, a dream that is one of the few points in his journey that he experiences any semblance of peace and serenity." Read the full explanation and hear the song on MetalSucks.net HERE. Tempting The Wretch will be live at 1pm EST on MetalSucks.net.

Threnody is available for pre-order now here: http://www.metalblade.com/woeoftyrants

The first single from Threnody, Creatures Of The Mire, is up on the band's myspace and is spinning on SiriusXM's Liquid Metal.

Woe Of Tyrants Unleash First Single and "Threnody" Album Art!
Woe Of Tyrants spent the entirety of 2009 criss-crossing the US on a multitude of tours. After the grueling schedule came to a close, did they head home to rest and take some time off? NOPE! They dove right into songwriting for the follow up to their sophomore album and Metal Blade debut, Kingdom Of Might. This time around, the guys have seriously turned up the shred-knob and churned out some of the most exciting songs we've heard swirling around the Metal Blade offices in quite some time. On this record, you'll find equal parts speed, groove and over the top guitar soloing. Headbanging will be mandatory.

The new album, Threnody, will be released worldwide on April 13th while the band will be on the road with Overkill and Vader. Fans can hear Creatures Of The Mire now on the band's myspace HERE. SiriusXM Liquid Metal listeners have been hearing this track since its premiere on the station on Friday, February 12th.

Vocalist Chris Catanzaro discusses the themes of Threnody:
“Well 2009 proved to be a monstrous one for Woe of Tyrants. It was a year of accomplishing goals such as releasing our debut Metal Blade album, touring with bands we've grown up listening to, and meeting thousands of awesome people all over the country. As we embark into 2010, our goals have shifted up a few gears. We have a brand baby spankin' new record that we finished recording at the end of 2009 with Jamie King producing, and to embrace the cliché "this is the most epic brutal stuff we've ever done and we're stoked on it!" The album is entitled Threnody. Now for those of us who do not know what that word means right off hand (I had to look it up as I was reading a passage from Ralph Waldo Emerson long ago), a threnody is a song or hymn inspired by the grief of losing someone you love. The album tells a story of a non-specific individual traveling between planets searching for answers, while paralleling Satan's fall from grace to damnation at the same time. We all experience a change at s me point as we travel through life, albeit not of the same magnitude as Lucifer, that will render us either content, or disgusted. When disgust is the feeling, then we begin to miss our former self as if they were an entirely different person. I'd like to be clear that I'm not referring specifically to Christians, or Muslims, or Amish or whatever else the kids are doing these days. Threnody, as we are using it, is a story of grief over losing oneself. This album will surprise those familiar with our band, and hopefully surpass any preconceived notions of those who are listening to us for the first time. If you have expectations for this record to sound like our last two albums, it doesn't. Well, a little like the others, as we still prefer playing leads over doing breakdowns, and we still wish we were Wintersun or Decapitated. But for the most part, this record is new territory for us and we are excited to unleash it.

We have a huge touring schedule kicking off in the spring, preceded by some regional shows in February as a part of the "Metal as Art" tour with Hypno5e, Starring Janet Leigh and Fallen Martyr. At the end of March, we leave on the KILLFEST tour which features Overkill, Vader, God Dethroned, Warbringer and Evile. We couldn't be happier about being involved with such an epic tour, and to join Overkill on their 25th anniversary tour is truly an honor. Much love!"

Overkill announces Killfest 2010 tour with God Dethroned, Woe Of Tyrants
NJ Thrash legends OVERKILL have announced their signature 25th Anniversary tour entitled KILLFEST 2010. The tour will span the length of the U.S., hitting spots in Canada with one final show at New York City’s Nokia Theater. Support duties coming from VADER, GOD DETHRONED, WARBINGER, EVILE and WOE OF TYRANTS.

Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth says, "The road never ends, and that's a good thing kids! We've all been tearing this up for over 25 years now and still going strong. April it starts again and this time it’s IRONBOUND, live and in your face, let the games begin!!!!!!!!"

WOE OF TYRANTS has just entered the studio to record their follow up to 2009’s Kingdom Of Might. Once again, they’re working with Jamie King (Between The Buried And Me, Alesana, Glass Casket) at The Basement Recording in North Carolina.

Vocalist Chris Catanzaro comments on the band’s plans and progress, "Wow, what a year. After releasing an album and touring with some amazing bands over the last 8 months, we've finished writing and demoing the material for our new record with plans of a Spring '10 release. We'll be entering the Basement Studios in Winston-Salem, NC to record the album with Jamie King behind the board. We're stoked to work with Jamie again and have full confidence that he'll capture the mood and severity we're going for with this new material. I'm not going to give you the cliche "this is our best stuff ever so brootal omg" line, I will just say that we're extremely excited and thankful for the opportunity to release the new stuff, and we're confident that it won't disappoint.

Our plans after the studio are just as exciting for us, as we've been fortunate enough to receive a spot on Overkill's upcoming North American 25th Anniversary tour, which also features Vader, Warbringer, God Dethroned, and Evile. We're fans of all of these bands and could not be more stoked to have the pleasure of hanging with them for a month doing what we love! Do not miss this show. Thanks to those of you who are interested enough to read about what we're doing, expect many studio updates over the next month…Much love!"

God Dethroned is continuing their campaign to promote what is being heralded as their finest work to date, Passiondale. The World War I epic concept album continues to earn praise from press and fans alike and anyone who doubt God Dethroned’s prowess is bound to be convinced by their live set on this tour!

“…God Dethroned have stepped up both their savagery (see the grinding “Behind Enemy Lines”) and sense of melody (the well-placed singing in the middle of “No Survivors”), making for a delicate balancing act that results in some wonderfully indelicate metal.” Revolver Magazine

“Passiondale is a compact, precise, and immensely rewarding listen, essentially a barbed collection of riffs that you’ll most likely find yourself humming afterward.” MetalSucks.net

“After 18 years and eight albums, Dutch death metallers God Dethroned have managed to piece together their masterwork.” Bravewords.com

“Few bands create concept albums with the depth and vision of God Dethroned.” Blistering.com

“PASSIONDALE is a history lesson with a soundtrack from hell…this is full on bombs exploding, limbs flying, flesh stripped on barbed wire tyranny, set to double bass blast beats and raging guitars. Add this to the growing list of must-hear releases of 2009 and buy this immediately.” Metal-Rules.com

Woe Of Tyrants wraps up tour with God Dethroned; interviewed on Ryan’s Rock Show
Chillicothe, Ohio’s high flying metal act, Woe Of Tyrants, have just wrapped up their US tour with God Dethroned, Abigail Williams and Augury. This is the final tour for the band before they regroup in Ohio to write and record their third full length album and follow up to their Metal Blade debut, Kingdom Of Might. Vocalist Chris Catanzaro adds: "God Dethroned's last date on the War Propaganda Tour was last night, hate to see them go! Amazingly kind and generous people, and many thanks goes to the band and their crew for making things run so smoothly for everyone. A few dates left with Abigail Williams/Augury and then we're holing ourselves up in our rehearsal space to finish writing our new record, expect it to hit this spring!"

While on tour, the guys sat down for a chat with Ryan’s Rock show. That interview can be seen HERE.

More news about the new album will be released as it becomes available. Until then, keep an eye on twitter.com/woeoftyrants and myspace.com/wot for up to the minute updates straight from the band!

Pick up your copy of Kingdom Of Might HERE.

“Not content with mere logic, the band slips multiple variations into the concise epic, establishing an album-length m.o. heavily dependent on proggish tendencies so algebraically correct, the title track’s Ritchie Blackmore quotes (“Highway Star”, even) seem downright divinely ordained.” Decibel Magazine

Kingdom of Might IS habit forming and shouldn't be taken with alcohol. For dry spells (when the album doesn't have your complete attention) of 5 minutes or more, please consult a doctor (you'd have to be dead).” AbsolutePunk.net

“…like if Lamb of God were to throw in an occasional bridge from Dio’s Holy Diver while under attack from Aborted.” Outburn Magazine

“Not only do they expertly navigate around the fretboard with fluid ease, they still manage to make many of the solos and quick counter-melodies extremely catchy. That’s a rare feat these days.” ultimate-guitar.com

Woe Of Tyrants “Golgotha” video premiere on MetalSucks.net!
Woe Of Tyrants is set to unveil their latest video for the song Golgotha from their Metal Blade debut, Kingdom Of Might. The band once again worked with Siege Media in shooting the video. The video will be posted Thursday, June 18th on MetalSucks.net at noon pacific, 3pm eastern!

Vocalist Chris Catanzaro comments: "We have worked with Jake and Siege Media twice now, and it's very exciting for us to see a young company develop between two videos shot in such a close proximity. We feel Jake and the crew captured the mood and excitement that we'd envisioned for this song and we're excited to premier it with our friends at MetalSucks for all of you to enjoy as well. Big thanks as always to our friends at Siege Media for tireless efforts and quick turnarounds and also the warehouse in Detroit, MI where the video was shot!"

You’ll have a chance to see Woe Of Tyrants on the road this summer with Unearth, For the Fallen Dreams and Starring Janet Leigh before joining up with equally epic and shred-worthy label mates, Bison b.c. and Lazarus A.D., on the Baptized In Beer tour.

“powerful and dignified…they dare to approach the maniacal majesty of present-day High on Fire.” Decibel Magazine 8/10

“…Bison b.c. captures the feedback drenched crunch of the very best stoner metal.” Outburn Magazine 8/10

“Heavy, man. Real heavy. Jean-jacket heavy…If Mastodon had spent more time listening to Anthrax, they might sound like Vancouver's Bison B.C.” Rollingstone.com

“They will crush the world.” Exclaim!

Lazarus AD
“The Onslaught is firmly rooted in the classic chug-a-chug riffage, wah-wah blitzkrieg solos, and raw-throated shouts of prime 80’s Bay Area thrash, but it also mixes in blast beats and more modern, progressive passages that the previous generation never would have explored, successfully dragging a dated sound into the 21st century.” 4/5 stars Revolver Magazine

“Get ready for some friggin ridiculous thrash from Wisconsin! Not bay area thrash, think Master of Puppets era Metallica thrash.” Hails & Horns

“…the way it combines rapid-fire riffage, abrupt rhythm changes and cutting guitar harmonies within double bass drumming is worthy of praise.” Guitar World from ‘The Next Metallica?’ article

“Every song on here is a potential future classic…but more impressive is the extraordinary musicianship on display…to imagine what this band is capable of is scary.” Fangoria.com

“This one hits so hard it hurts…In two words, ‘damn good’.” Blabbermouth.net

“The Onslaught is probably better than the last couple Exodus albums. Derivative or not, when you write good songs, you write good songs and that’s all that really matters. I fully endorse and recommend this riff orgy to thrash heads everywhere.” TeethoftheDivine.com

“As soon as I heard the first thirty seconds, I was sold on Lazarus A.D.” PureGrainAudio.com

Woe of Tyrants
“Kingdom of Might is habit forming and shouldn't be taken with alcohol.

“Woe of Tyrants is undoubtedly one of the best new extreme-metal bands to break out onto the metal landscape in a long time.” Frantikmag.com

“…truly epic confidence, graceful aggression and positivity that instantly catapults the band into the elite of American metal…” TeethoftheDivine.com

“Maybe it is the complete absence of the clichés that riddle most of the metal that gets released these days but Woe of Tyrants is a welcome breath of fresh air…” Metal-Rules.com

“…Woe of Tyrants may soon be your favorite new band.” All Music Guide

Metal Blade announces “Young Guns” tour
This spring, fans will have the chance to witness several of Metal Blade’s youngest and brightest bands share the stage at venues across the US. The tour will include headliners, Psyopus, who are joined by DIY touring vets, Rose Funeral, critically acclaimed shred heavy newcomers, Woe of Tyrants, and Las Vegas’ latest and brutal offering to the world of extreme metal, Molotov Solution.

Metal Blade founder and CEO, Brian Slagel comments, “We are very excited to get our cool new bands all on the road together for a great price. We hope that everyone comes out to support the bands and check out the latest in metal.”

Psyopus’ latest masterpiece, Odd Senses, hit streets on February 17th and has blown away fans and critics alike - from the add explosive tracks like The Burning Halo to the epic nearly classical track, A Murder to a Child. This band’s live performance literally has to been seen to be believed. Main man Chris Arp is excited to join up with these bands on the road, “We’re psyched to own stages across this country with these rocking kats. Metal in your face, zinch, zinch, zinch!” - Chris Arp, Psyopus

“…ODD SENSES, is a mind blowing journey into the psychotic realm of extreme metal music.” Fangoria.com

Rose Funeral’s sophomore release and Metal Blade debut, The Resting Sonata, offers an impressive slab of death metal that, when delivered live, causes audiences to erupt into violent mosh pits. Expect gang vocals and death metal delivered with precision. The band adds, “We are all stoked to be on tour with some of our Metal Blade family members. This will definitely be a tour full of surprises for everyone. Don't miss a show coming to your area or you will miss out on one of the best highlights of the year.”

“Rose Funeral has potential to actually change the scene, rather than add to its generic-ness.” Hails & Horns

Woe of Tyrants have wowed critics and guitar aficionados with, Kingdom of Might. Their ability to meld high flying near Dragonforce-esque guitars with the groove and aggression of death metal is coupled with a positive and thought-provoking lyrical message. Vocalist Chris Catanzaro comments, “Woe of Tyrants are extremely proud and grateful to represent our label, Metal Blade, on the Young Guns Tour this spring, alongside some fantastic bands. Getting to share the stage with our boys in Psyopus once again is an honor, and we’re looking forward to going out for the first time with Rose Funeral and Molotov Solution. Come and check out some great new talents, see you on the road!”

“Kingdom of Might IS habit forming and shouldn't be taken with alcohol. For dry spells (when the album doesn't have your complete attention) of 5 minutes or more, please consult a doctor (you'd have to be dead).” AbsolutePunk.net

Molotov Solution, one of Metal Blade’s newest additions, just finished recording their Metal Blade debut at Lambesis Studios in San Diego with the duo of Tim Lambesis and Daniel Castlman mixing. Their social commentary and intelligent lyrical attacks are sure to continue on this next installment. Guitarist Robbie Pina adds, “We are extremely excited and honored to be included in Metal Blades "Young Guns" tour. This will be our first tour as part of the Metal Blade family and our anticipation precedes us.”

Woe of Tyrants “Break the Fangs of the Wicked” video debut on myspace.com/metal
Ohio’s Woe of Tyrants are currently debuting their video for Break the Fangs of the Wicked on myspace.com/metal. The video was directed by Jake Beemer with Siege Media and filmed at the Majestic Theatre in Chillicothe, OH.

Vocalist Chris Catanzaro explains the video and its concept: “We were very honored to have the opportunity to work with Jake and the crew of Siege Media on our first video for the new record, "Kingdom of Might". The song is entitled "Break the Fangs of the Wicked", and despite being one of our most popular live songs, Fangs was chosen due to the fact that it successfully culminates the diversity and overall theme of the entire record. The video was shot in our hometown of Chillicothe, OH at the legendary Majestic Theater. We were fortunate enough to have some close, and very talented, friends come out to serve as the performers in the video. The storyline follows the song in that the song is about rising above negativity and evil and going back to square one in our love for our fellow person. We felt this was an important message to convey amidst a genre that speaks death almost constantly, and thanks to the professionalism of the crew we are very confident that it is going to turn out even better than we initially expected!” - Chris Catanzaro
