New album Harmony Of Discord on Ironclad Recordings 10/13

Tour with It Dies Today and Arsonists Get All The Girls (9/13-10/19)

Dallas, TX’s The Destro have two for Tuesday as they premiere two new songs from their forthcoming full-length Harmony Of Discord tomorrow. The track Persistence Of Ignorance will premiere on Metal Sucks.net while Justifiers Of Malice will run on the band’s own myspace page. Harmony Of Discord is the band’s sophomore album on Ironclad Recordings and drops on October 13th. Speaking on the new album guitarist Nick Emde said “On writing this new album we threw away multiple riffs going on in songs, we cut out any soloing and it’s twice as heavy as our other material and totally focused” says guitarist Nick Emde. “As a guitarist I’m influenced by Napalm Death as they are completely fast, completely brutal with no filler but it leaves you satisfied.”

Signed by Trevor Phipps of Unearth for his Ironclad Recordings, the band released their debut As The Coil Unwinds in 2007. The album received praise from the metal elite including national publications such as Outburn who said “The band harkens back in time when renegades like Metallica wrote grand masterpieces of metal compositions… pure metal sans the trends and flashy gimmickry.” The usually reserved Decibel Magazine whole heartily concurred saying “The Destro nailed it pretty spectacularly from the percussive drum production and groove-heavy song tempos to the raw-throated vocals and squealy drop-tuned guitar riffs.”

The Destro “Harmony Of Discord” out 10/13 on Ironclad Recordings!
The Destro don’t waste time or energy with jabs, set up moves or dizzying footwork in the ring. They musically punch you direct in the Adams apple and kick you in the crotch while you uselessly wait for a melodic chorus. They possess the aggression and directness of hardcore but it’s not metalcore, they have the thick sludge toned riffage and big bottom groove of metal while tossing off any flashy leads or instrumental obliqueness that have dominated that genre of late. Lastly, they are armed with a vocalist who sounds like an angry giant of a man without any cookie monster yawling and with decipherable lyrics. “On writing this new album we threw away multiple riffs going on in songs, we cut out any soloing and it’s twice as heavy as our other material and totally focused” says guitarist Nick Emde. “As a guitarist I’m influenced by Napalm Death as they are completely fast, completely brutal with no filler but it leaves you satisfied.”

The album in question is the band’s sophomore full-length Harmony Of Dishord to be released on Ironclad Recordings. While the word harmony and The Destro don’t exactly seem a likely fit, Emde found the inspiration in a metaphor. “I was at a VanGogh exhibition a few years back. This one picture showed these men working in a hayfield plowing and whatnot and they were in abject poverty but in this absolutely beautiful country setting. The piece was called Harmony And Discord but it struck me immediately as a metaphor for the band because to a lot of people they think it’s a waste of life to play this perceived negative music for no money, living in a van playing every night in a different city but we find harmony in this lifestyle and find this music uplifting to the spirit.” The new songs reflect this spirit and exorcise a lot of demons for the band “Inbetween albums we just had a lot of trying experiences including deaths of family members, deterioration of personal relationships and general homelessness. Those negative emotions and experiences went straight to our writing to the point where I can honestly say playing these new songs completely release all those feelings for me” Emde reveals.

The band live in Dallas, TX but Emde, vocalist Eric Daughtry and drummer John Garrett hail from smaller climes “We all grew up together in Gainesville TX while is about 75 miles outside of Dallas. It’s totally hick, totally redneck and totally without a music venue. Being from there and from Texas in general made it easier to find our own sound because we’re from the middle of America, we have no scene to follow and no one’s coattails to ride.” Playing together for years the band (which now includes bassist Brad Kirkland) eventually found their direction and chipped away at their sound. “We were working shit jobs but we had this plan that we stuck to which was get a house in Dallas, write everyday, record our own music, get our own merch. In time we self-released a CD and I sent it off to labels to check out. Within a week we were getting offers.”

One of those offers was from Trevor Phipps, frontman of Unearth and owner of Ironclad Recordings. Emde recalls, “I was at my waiter job and I got a call from Trevor saying Unearth was in Dallas and one of the bands had to drop off the date and he wanted us to play in their place tonight. It was about three hours notice and I said yes without talking to the other guys. We got there with thirty minutes to spare and played to about 400 kids, it was like our unofficial label showcase” Phipps signed them immediately.

Their debut, As The Coil Unwinds, was released in 2007 and received praise from the metal elite including national publications such as Outburn Magazine who said, “The band harkens back in time when renegades like Metallica wrote grand masterpieces of metal compositions… pure metal sans the trends and flashy gimmickry.” The usually reserved Decibel Magazine whole heartily concurred saying “The Destro nailed it pretty spectacularly from the percussive drum production and groove-heavy song tempos to the raw-throated vocals and squealy drop-tuned guitar riffs.” Following the release was a never ending series of live shows and tours nationwide - the results ranged from extreme to extremely surreal. “We were just destroying on these tours we were out on. One night we were playing in Arkansas on Easter Sunday. We got on stage and ripped into our set and we just noticed that most of the kids were just staring with blank expressions standing still. I couldn’t believe it and we were pissed off, later we found out we were booked on a Christian band bill and here we are spouting off our metal stage banter wearing Morbid Angel and Pentagram t-shirts.”

The results were reversed when band played Ozzfest in Texas last year. “I got a call from Metallica’s management inviting us to a pre-show barbeque where we drank all night with the band, Anthrax and a ton of metal legends. The next day we played in this huge outdoor football field in between Goatwhore and Pentagram but we brought the best sound guy in Dallas just to do our sound. Not speaking on the quality of anyone else’s music cause a lot of great bands played but our sound that day just crushed the speakers off of pretty much anyone else. It was a dream come true”

The band has just confirmed a U.S. Tour with Arsonists Get All The Girls and It Dies Today from Sept 10th through October 19th.
