Tampa, FL’s SIX FEET UNDER (SFU), featuring legendary godfather of death metal vocals Chris Barnes, has been delivering unapologetic death metal since 1993. SFU continue to do what they do best; delivering bludgeoning slabs of metal that leave fans hungering for more. Legendary death metal vocalist Chris Barnes, along with guitarist Steve Swanson continue to follow the dark and demented path that merges what Outburn Magazine calls “tried and true death groove” with stomach-turning lyrics and themes.
In February 2011, Chris Barnes and Steve Swanson announced that their long time friends and band mates, Terry Butler (bass) and Greg Gall (drums), had decided to move on and depart from SFU. Without missing a beat Barnes started working hard on new SFU material for several months with a new writing partner who turned out to be none other than Rob Arnold, lead guitarist of the metal band Chimaira. In a statement to his fans, Barnes commented “I will make this guarantee and promise to all the fans of SIX FEET UNDER; the new lineup will be a DEATH METAL force to be dealt with, with the long awaited addition of a brutal as fuck drummer and riffs that will rip your face off, vocals ala 1993-1995…” This statement alone had death metal fans around the world salivating for the new material in addition to seeing the new and improved SFU live on stage. A chance some fans soon got when the band played just over a week’s worth of dates in Europe featuring drummer Kevin Talley (Dååth, Chimaira, Dying Fetus, Misery Index, etc), Rob Arnold (Chimaira) who joined the band as 2nd rhythm guitarist, and Matt DeVries (also of Chimaira) stepping in on bass.
Further commenting on the band’s new material Chris Barnes stated; "I couldn't be happier about the new songs and line up! Rob and myself have been collaborating on new songs along with the bands new drummer, Kevin Talley for the past few months. We are all feeling really excited about the bands future, and the raw intensity of the songs that we have created together so far. THIS IS THE HEAVIEST MOST EXCITING MATERIAL THAT IVE WORKED ON SINCE THE BLEEDING, AND IM STOKED THAT ROB WILL BE HELPING OUT CREATING THIS CD WITH US! We’ve all known each other for a while and we're really looking forward to continue writing the new CD and future tours. We are committed to taking SIX FEET UNDER to the next level of brutality!!!"
Rob Arnold added; "It’s been an amazing honor and opportunity to have been called upon by one of my biggest idols, Chris Barnes!! SIX FEET UNDER and the Barnes era Cannibal stuff had enormous effects on me as a young musician, and still do to this day. In 1996, I was a kid in the front row screaming my head off to ‘Lycanthropy’ and ‘Torn to the Bone’... and now here I am, being asked to play the songs on stage with the band! Dreams do come true!!! And the stuff we've been writing absolutely RIPS! Watch out!!"
On the same date SFU played their first gig with the new lineup in Germany, Summer Slaughter Tour announced the lineup of the tour’s 5th year that included the mighty SFU along with label mates The Black Dahlia Murder and Whitechapel in addition to Darkest Hour, As Blood Runs Black, and Oceano just to name a few. “We’re honored to have the opportunity to share the stage this summer with the best of the best in metal today…all that attend the 5th annual Summer Slaughter Tour will be left six feet under” commented Barnes.
Joining vocalist Chris Barnes, guitarist Steve Swanson, and drummer Kevin Talley, will once again be touring second guitarist Rob Arnold and Matt DeVries on bass.
