“…down n’ dirty monolithic death metal with no holds barred” Metal Maniacs
Death Rituals, the latest offering from Tampa, FL’s Six Feet Under, features 13 tracks of pure American death metal. Tracks like ‘Death by Machete’, ‘Seed of Filth’, ‘Involuntary Movement of Dead Flesh" and ‘Shot in the Head’ sees the godfathers of groove laden death metal doing what the do best; delivering a bludgeoning slab of metal that will leave fans hungering for more. Legendary death metal vocalist Chris Barnes, along with guitarist Steve Swanson, bass legend Terry Butler, and drummer Greg Gall, continue to follow the dark and demented path that merges what OUTBURN Magazine calls “tried and true death groove” with stomach-turning lyrics and themes.
Death Rituals saw the band returning to Morrisound Studios in Tampa, FL with Chris Carroll at the helm with mixing duties being handled by Toby Wright and the return of Six Feet Under’s old friend Bill Metoyer, who recorded the bands CD Warpath, helping out with recording of the drums. Unlike the recording of Commandment and 13 which were constructed completely from start to finish in the studio, Six Feet Under was able to write Death Rituals at a much more relaxed pace with the entire album’s worth of material completed before the band entered the studio. Each album Six Feet Under releases is a progression from the last. As Chris Barnes states, “each album has its own vibe and that’s the way it has always been for me.”
As for the title Death Rituals Barnes had been sitting on name for a while and it wasn’t until now that the timing felt right to use it. The title Death Rituals was also the core inspiration and springboard for the lyrics written for the album. The songs, the title and the lyrics all come together to create the perfect setting for this infamous death metal band’s 8th full-length studio release, which will be unleashed on the metal world on November 11th 2008.
