SHAI HULUD
"Misanthropy Pure"
RELEASED: 05.27.2008
An update from Shai Hulud!
At Both Ends, Facebook, Twitter, and Brain Surgery?

Shai Hulud’s Matt Fox checks in:
“Our pal Stephen's magazine, At Both Ends, is going out with a bang and a doozie (and a couple snazzy, colorful 7 inches) all at once. He was kind enough to interview us shy Huluds for his last hurrah. Thanks Stephen. No pound. Nice firm handshake. Check it out here: http://atbothendsmagazine.blogspot.com/

In other news, we have completely neglected our My Space page lately (Gee, look how prehistoric we are, we still think My and Space are two separate words!). Please forgive us. We've never been all that web-friendly to begin with, but now with the age of here's-how-I-feel-every-second-of-every-minute, see-what-I'm-doing-right-now-and-right-now-and-right-now, and someone-in-my-family-has-suffered-a-major-tragedy-that-shouldn't-be-posted-publicly-for-everyone-to-read-and-comment-on upon us…well, our laziness got the best of us and we adhered to the new standard of 140 characters or less, just much less often than the rest of the world whose lives are so exciting that they share their every intimate detail with us. We wish we were that exciting. For now we can just live vicariously through the rest of you while we sit in our boxers picking our noses (we actually Tweeeeeeeeeeted about that once. Gross, right?).

So, yeah, 140 characters or less. Not much to think about that way, and we're GREAT at not thinking. If you haven't yet, please check out the most mundane misanthropists (nice alliteration, eh?) on Twitter and Facebook. We're sure to bore you silly. But of course we'll be certain to inform you when we're really bumming because someone close to us is in the hospital having brain surgery. Please leave comments.

Shai Hulud issues update on upcoming tours
Shai Hulud will be trekking across the US on several tours, including a tour with Stick to Your Guns as well as New Found Glory. Guitarist Matt Fox has issued the following update:

“Hello Mousketeers,
With our mousey tails between our legs, we leave for an extended touring schedule early today. "Why so glum, chum" you ask? We're just pulling your mousket-ears, we're not glum at all. We are, however, another in a long list of bands disallowed to play the Mouse's Houses Of Blues. Chalk it up to our profound lyrical hatred. Or something like that. We're not exactly sure why we're not permitted to play the Disney venues to be quite honest, but I, for one, will be destroying my DVD copy of Darby O'Gill And The Little People in protest of this flagrant bias against us, Disney-loving misanthropists that we are.

Take that, Walt! Have at you, Eisner! That'll teach 'em. Funny, both Satyricon and Slayer were permitted to play so we've been told. I'm willing to bet cold cash not one member of either of the aforementioned bands can sing even one of any of the numbers from The Little Mermaid soundtrack. One of our members can. Just saying...

As the Mouse so decrees, your friendly neighborhood Huluds will not be playing either House Of Blues show on Disney property, namely Anaheim, CA on March 27th or Orlando, FL on April 10th. And the children are safe yet another day; Slayer, sticklers for proprieties and all.

Regarding shows we are playing, check the tour dates listed on our My Space page as we will be playing some off dates from the NFG tour. If the full tour isn't playing your town, make sure we're not stopping by on our own.

We should get going. Tour beckons and we don't want to keep anyone in Abilene, TX waiting- providing people actually live in Abilene, TX. Please don't take offense if you do, we've just never heard of your what we are certain is a lovely city. We'll find out soon enough. Come have a mosh with Shai Hulud, Last House On The Left, and our favorite Sith Lords, Antagonist in Abilene on March 6th. Take us to your leader. And your record and comic book shops.

In a last bit of totally worthless news, Shai Hulud is now both Facebook and Twitter friendly. And by that we mean, we're there. Hip, if you will. In the now:

Shai Hulud to tour with New Found Glory!
Shai Hulud will be taking the spot of recently disbanded Verses on New Found Glory’s upcoming headlining tour with Bayside & Set Your Goals. For those unaware, Chad Gilbert of NFG is an original member of Hulud…so he may or may not be joining them on stage… updates straight from the sources (Matt Fox & Chad Gilbert) are below.

“Greetings Programettes,
You must have been worried sick. It's been what... a while, no? Please accept our humblest apologies for our lack of writings and updates. Worry not, we're just fine and wearing the same underwear since the last time you heard from us. We hope you are as well.

We've had a lot of great experiences the past few months, many of which we meant to immediately document on cyberspace, but eBay often gets in the way. All that Planet of the Apes and Micronauts stuff to drool over; that takes up a lot of time, and quite a bit of drool. But I digress. We'll get to some of the older bits after we comment on current and upcoming happenings because we can't very well live in the past anymore than we already do. Not without a Delorean. And jigawatts. We'll need jigawatts. 1.21 to be exact.

Continuing our mission to relentlessly tour, and damage and drive our bodies and van straight into the ground, we have two months worth of two tours to announce. We'll be out supporting Stick To Your Guns along with In Fear And Faith and Stray From The Path for just about two weeks starting in early March. A righteous run you say? Indeed, but wait there's more. Directly after our stint with the aforementioned, we join up with Set Your Goals and Bayside to assist them in supporting A New Found Glory (minus the "A") as they support their forthcoming album Not Without A Fight. Now that's not something you see every day! For those of you who might not know, New Found Glory and Shai Hulud are more closely related than you might realize: we both started in South Florida back in the 90's together, we always stayed friendly and in touch, and early on even shared a member. As unique as the pairing may seem, it's also a perfect fit - and that's not mentioning NFG's clear and obvious ties to the hardcore scene. Chad Gilbert has an original press of Start Today on vinyl... and you don't. So there. Not so harder-core-than-thou now, eh brown cow?

We know what you're wondering. The answer is.................. quite possibly. There are no definitive plans for Captain Straight Edge a.k.a. Chadball to hop on the mic and sing a song with us, however, it's certainly not out of the question. We in Shai Hulud would be as pinkly tickled as yourselves to have Chad share the stage with us. As always, the invitation is there. We'll enjoy the moment if and when it arrives. Oh, the torture of uncertainty.

Note from Chad of New Found Glory:

“Hello Party People,
As most of you already know, the band VERSE, who was meant to open our "Not Without A Fight" tour has broken up. We were excited to tour with them but that’s life. We have been receiving tons of messages from people asking us about who are we replacing Verse with. Since tickets were already on sale we feel it is only fair to replace them with a band from a similar genre. That way kids who listen to Verse won’t be too disappointed...plus we feel it makes for a better show to have a more diverse lineup.

Now to announce the band:
The band that will replace Verse will be none other than SHAI HULUD!! They are a fellow Floridian band and we grew up in the South Florida scene playing shows side by side. We felt this would be an interesting and fun replacement. They have an awesome album that came out recently called MISANTHROPY PURE.

Check it!

For those of you that could be wondering, I might make an appearance on the mic but I can’t promise or commit to anything. Shai Hulud's singer rules anyway.

Your friend always,
Chad”

More from Matt Fox:
“Them's the plans for the next couple months anyway. More plans will post here in the near future. How about yourselves, anyone doing anything exciting the next couple of months? Do tell! Anyone excited for Joaquin Pheonix's Hip Hop project? Yeah, us too. Like really. Like... (yawn)... really...

Hey! We're always looking to sleep somewhere other than a hotel while on tour. Drop us a line if your floor desperately needs to be crashed on by your homeboys in Shai Hulud. You'll want us to shower, that's for sure. You'll never get a better chance to find out exactly how boring we are until we crash at your place. If we're feeling really crazy, we might even ask you to play a board game. Matt Fletcher might tell a story from his teenage years, and Matt Fox, well, he's been known to drink a Cherry Coke after midnight. Animals. Don't miss this rare opportunity to get up close and personal with us. We promise you, at the very least, great conversations about Thin Lizzy, the Miami Dolphins, and Nuclear Assault, the best in the biz. Get in touch. Our operators are standing by.”

SHAI HULUD reports on recent trip to Japan
Check out this update from Hulud as they have just returned from a week-long trip to Japan.

“Shai Hulud is home and recovering from a spectacular week-long Japanese excursion, the highlight of which was our performance at Pump Up The Volume Fest in Kawasaki. A huge thanks must be given to Daiki and Alliance Trax for bringing us over, as well as our tour mates in Parkway Drive and Crystal Lake, and the following bands we met up with along the way: Endzweck, FC Five, FORDIRELIFESAKE, Trash Talk, Carpathian, and Doggie Hoodz. Lastly, thanks to all the kids that came and sang along, it is much appreciated.”

Atticus Metal Tour announced!
Shai Hulud has been announced as one of the regional special guest acts to appear on the Atticus Metal Tour. They will join the tour with Emmure, Winds of Plague, Terror, All Shall Perish & The Ghost Inside April 14th-19th.

Dates with Shai Hulud announced so far are as follows:
04/15 Northern Lights Albany, NY
04/17 Opera House Toronto, ON
04/19 Irving Plaza New York, NY

Shai Hulud guitarist & mastermind, Matt Fox, comments: “Who better to have a metal tour than Atticus? Sure, the novel / movie of which their moniker pays homage, "To Kill A Mockingbird," might not be about metal per se, but it sure as hell sounds metal! Atticus' first metal tour is a brilliant showcase of who's making waves in metal and hardcore in 2009. We're honored to have been asked to play even a portion. On the rotting remains of Harper Lee, we'll help make sure this one slays.”

Shai Hulud’s critically acclaimed Metal Blade debut, Misanthropy Pure, is available everywhere now.

“Misanthropy is one giant, brain-rattling testament to the genre-blurring finesse of bands masterminds Matt Fox (guitar) and Matt Fletcher (bass), who fuse good, old-fashioned circle-pit hardcore with hair-whipping shred-metal, leaving us all the merrier for it.” Alternative Press 4/5 stars

“The complex, string-hopping and mind-bending guitar runs played on "Venomspreader" and "Chorus Of The Dissimilar", hell the entire album, walk that thin line between discombobulating and awe-inspiring.” Blabbermouth.net
