Alternative Press premiers RETURN TO EARTH music video for 'Automata'!
In conjunction with the new release Automata from the alternative metal act RETURN TO EARTH, Alternative Press Magazine is premiering the group's music video for the title track 'Automata' on their website HERE. The video for 'Automata' was created by the same team that brought fans the two trailers for the album, Damien Serban and Yann Bertrand from Absinthe Studio in France (www.absinthestudio.com). Head over to AltPress.com today to check out the video and be sure to leave your comments.
Metal Blade Records has launched a landing page where fans can go to check out music, watch the two teaser videos made by Damien Serban and Yann Bertrand, an in-the-studio-video and video footage of Chris Pennie (ex-Dillinger/current Coheed drummer) at the 2010 Modern Drummer Festival, and purchase the album.
"Mixing a love of Mike Patton, Trent Reznor and latter-day Dillinger with the catchy hooks of Coheed, RTE's second release is an unapologetically slick attempt to smuggle leftfield influences into a mainstream rock sound." Kerrang! Magazine
"Influenced by textural and experimental bands such as System of a Down, Faith No More, Tool and Muse, Return to Earth play a striking combination of math metal, alt-rock, classic rock and even industrial." Noisecreep.com
"The musicianship on display is faultless, they've really got a knack for writing a good tune, it's good to see also that they're not ashamed to employ melody and write a catchy song, so many heavy rock bands would shy away from this." Altsounds.com
About the band:
RETURN TO EARTH is the amalgamation of the musical talents of Ron Scalzo, Brett Aveni, and Chris Pennie; three veteran and visionary musicians whose material can't be pigeonholed to one genre or easily classified. You'll hear bits and pieces of their influences and other projects and those bits and pieces come together to form the unique whole that is RETURN TO EARTH.
All three members of RTE sport impressive musical resumes - Pennie, in particular, hones his craft as one of the most heralded drummers working today. His groundbreaking drum style provides the backbone for RTE's aggressive brand of rock. Pennie also wrote a lot of the material & contributed in the form of synth & loop programming. "Brett & I have been itching to work with Chris for years," admits Scalzo. "He's one of those prodigies that make the rest of wonder why we even bother trying to make music."
Brooklyn native Scalzo is no slouch in the music-making department, having achieved moderate success as electro-rock singer/songwriter Q*Ball. With three self-released critically-acclaimed albums under his belt, Scalzo has purveyed that moderate success – and a lot of long hours – into an underground DIY label, Bald Freak Music. The upstart's growing roster includes Guns N' Roses guitarist Bumblefoot, who releases his impressive solo work on the label, and buzz-worthy pirate metal band Swashbuckle.
"You blink your eyes these days & the industry has already shifted another 30 degrees to the left," says Scalzo. "I was tired of playing 'the game' – trying to fashion an image, a look, a musical style that would impress all the wrong people. I wanted to make music that I wanted to make, and the only way I was going to do that on my own terms was to release it myself."

RETURN TO EARTH premieres new song EXCLUSIVELY on Full Metal Jackie Radio this weekend!
Jersey-based aggressive hard rock outfit RETURN TO EARTH, featuring the talents of Ron Scalzo, Brett Aveni, and Chris Pennie (Coheed & Cambria, ex-The Dillinger Escape Plan), are pleased to announce that their song Night Of The Exploding Razors will have its WORLDWIDE EXCLUSIVE premiere this weekend (Aug 6th – Aug 8th) on the acclaimed syndicated radio show, Full Metal Jackie. The show is syndicated on rock stations across the US. Find the station nearest you to tune in this weekend by heading to FullMetalJackieRadio.com.
RETURN TO EARTH's sophomore album and Metal Blade Records debut, Automata, hits stores everywhere on August 17th. Mixing for Automata was handled by Guns N' Roses' Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal who also happened to mix RTE's first album, Captains of Industry, and polished up what turned out to be quite an ambitious multi-track recording. Automata was self produced by Chris and Brett under their new production company, Fight Mannequins. Brett comments: "We wanted complete control over the proceedings, as we felt that only we knew what was best to get the songs across." Vocalist Ron Scalzo adds: "After going about the recording process modestly for our first album, Captains of Industry, we decided to up the ante for Automata - better studios and mics, more tracks, more gear - we wanted to create a heavier, denser sound with more dynamics this time around. Heavier and denser can be a nightmare without the proper mix, and our old friend Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal once again made magic with more tracks than most sane people would dare to blend together to make everything sound cohesive. With file management not necessarily being our 'strong suit', Mr. Thal once again outdid himself trying to piece all the madness together."

New track from RETURN TO EARTH-Ron Scalzo's electronic project Q*Ball featuring Guns N' Roses' Bumblefoot
The Hum – single available now!
Fans can now purchase the first of a series of new singles from Q*Ball, a project led by RETURN TO EARTH frontman Ron Scalzo that features the talents of Guns N' Roses' Bumblefoot. Inspired by newer bands like LCD Soundsystem and veteran acts like Beck and Nine Inch Nails, who use a bevy of studio musicians, friends, and producers to hone both their recorded and live sounds, Scalzo sent an email out to a dozen friends whose music he admired or who he'd worked with before to recruit them for The Q*Ball Collaboration Project. "In March of 2010, I conspired to break the chains of the traditional philosophy of writing, recording, and releasing an album." Scalzo will release a new song every month, starting with The Hum. "Each song will be written by myself and one or two other people, fleshed out together, tracked, and then brought to Bumblefoot to be mixed and sautéed before being served to the masses. The days of putting an album out every three years are over for acts much bigger than Q*Ball, so keeping things fresh has become a no-brainer."
Q*Ball has released three albums thru Scalzo's independent label, Bald Freak Music. Read the rest of the story, check out the lyrics, listen to and purchase the single The Hum at the official Q*Ball site & at CD Baby.

RETURN TO EARTH releases artwork and track listing for 'Automata'
RTE's MySpace redesign for the upcoming release of 'Automata' up now!
New track, 'Back Of My Hand', premiering on MySpace to coincide with launch of redesign
The Jersey-based alternative rock meets metal outfit RETURN TO EARTH are currently gearing up for the band's upcoming release of Automata, which is due out in stores and online August 17. In honor of the band's second full-length album and Metal Blade debut, RTE has just released the track listing and artwork for Automata and will be launching a redesign of the MySpace page tonight that includes the addition of the new track 'Back Of My Hand' in the music player. RTE's aesthetic approach to the artwork emulates bands like TOOL and NINE INCH NAILS by creating a visual element that parallels and accentuates the music.
Helping RTE with their vision are Damien Serban and Yann Bertrand from Absinthe Studio in France (www.absinthestudio.com); two fans of the band that had reached out to vocalist Ron Scalzo with a short film they had put together. The short film Serban and Bertrand created was computer generated and trippy, and perhaps serendipitous in that it sort of vibed with the musical and lyrical themes of the album and the concept of Automata, itself. Noting the connection between the album's lyrics and themes and the short film, RTE decided to reach out to the two French filmmakers to create a 60 second trailer for the new album. RTE sent Serban and Bertrand three songs from Automata along with a basic outline of the songs' themes. Absinthe Studio's vision – a giant mechanical cube (or polyhedron, for all you intellectuals out there) in the desert which opened up to reveal robotic machinery organically pumping to the rhythm of RTE's songs, simultaneously meshed with images of distorted flesh and human body parts – was awe-inspiring and pretty much blew the band away. When it came time to put together the artwork with Bald Freak Music's Head of Design John Bryan (www.revolutiondream.com), the band members all agreed that the 'cube' concept was "it" - that it best embodied the spirit of the music visually - that the cube and the mysterious power within it could be responsible for the blurry line between humanity and machinery that is a recurring theme of Automata.
Head over to the RTE's MySpace page HERE to check out the redesign and to listen to the new track, Back Of My Hand.

RETURN TO EARTH announces street date; details on recording of 'Automata'
RTE's sophomore effort, 'Automata,' set to hit streets this August. The brand new track 'You Will Be Replaced' currently streaming on MySpace!
Jersey-based aggressive hard rock outfit RETURN TO EARTH, featuring the talents of Ron Scalzo, Brett Aveni, and Chris Pennie (Coheed & Cambria, ex-The Dillinger Escape Plan), are pleased to announce the release date of their sophomore release titled Automata which will be hitting streets this summer on August 17. Drums and vocals for Automata were tracked in Dover, NJ at Backroom Studios where drummer Chris Pennie regularly rehearses. Guitar tracks along with additional production were recorded in guitarist Brett's basement, which the band so affectionately refers to as "The Boiler Room" as the space acts as both a recording studio and housing for Brett's boiler.
Mixing for Automata was handled by Guns N' Roses' Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal who also happened to mix RTE's first album Captains of Industry and polished up what turned out to be quite an ambitious multi-track recording.
In honor of the upcoming release of Automata, RTE has posted the brand new track You Will Be Replaced on their MySpace page. Guitarist Brett Aveni recently posted a blog explaining the concepts behind each track on Automata, which is more a group of themes than a running story line that one would find with a concept album.
"(You Will Be Replaced is) about the tenuous nature of humanity - how easily replaceable we are, as workers, as partners - coming to the forefront; and our recognition and ultimate fight for survival against the technology that threatens to take over, against machine replacing mankind."

Metal Blade Records signs hard rock band RETURN TO EARTH featuring Chris Pennie of Coheed & Cambria (ex-The Dillinger Escape Plan)
Metal Blade Records set to release second full-length album from the Jersey-based band comprised of vocalist Ron Scalzo, guitarist Brett Aveni, and drummer Chris Pennie
AGOURA HILLS, Calif. - March 11, 2010 - Metal Blade Records is pleased to announce the signing of Jersey-based aggressive hard rock outfit RETURN TO EARTH featuring the talents of Ron Scalzo, Brett Aveni, and Chris Pennie (current drummer of Coheed & Cambria and former drummer of The Dillinger Escape Plan). RETURN TO EARTH has already finished writing and recording Automata, the follow-up to the band's 2007 debut Captains of Industry, and is set to release the behemoth this summer.
RETURN TO EARTH comments; "After self-releasing our first album, Captains of Industry, and discovering a heavier, more intense sound during the recording sessions for Automata, the three of us agreed that the scope of the band's vision would benefit from the support of a bigger, like-minded record label - one that had similar musical influences and an appreciation for our DIY 'studio geek' mentality. Also, a label we felt we could trust and depend upon to promote our songs properly. Metal Blade was always at the top of our very short wish list of potential partners, and so we were thrilled to discover that Brian Slagel and Metal Blade were as enamored with us as we were with them. Signing with Metal Blade is an affirmation of our hard work, and we are psyched to have them in our corner for the release of Automata!"
Brian Slagel adds; "I have been a big fan of Chris Pennie for a long time and we all at Metal Blade are very excited to work with Chris and the rest of RETURN TO EARTH."
RETURN TO EARTH's music is highlighted by the awe-inspiring precision of Pennie's backbeat, Aveni's catchy rock hooks, and Scalzo's sing-and-scream, harmony-heavy vocals. Explains Scalzo, "We're all passionate about music, and have a shared affinity for classic metal & modern-day rock with lush production. We're three guys with three different perspectives – but you can hear all those influences in our own tunes, loud & clear." As with all great bands, when RETURN TO EARTH make music together, the disparate influences and personalities coalesce into a single vision. Adds Scalzo, "Most of all, we each draw inspiration from the other guys' strengths - whether a riff, a rhythm line, or a vocal hook - it doesn't take much to ignite our respective fires, and that usually culminates in something heavy, different, and ultimately, inspirational. We're all really proud of this record."
Check out the following teaser trailer that offers a glimpse into the madness that is RETURN TO EARTH and stay tuned to MetalBlade.tv and RETURN TO EARTH's sites for more details on release date, MP3's, and videos.
