PARIA
"The Barnacle Cordious"
RELEASED: 03.17.2009
With the current state of heavy music existing in what seems to be a vacuum that only maintains the expected, Paria is a pivotal example of those willing to take chances and exceed expectations. At times oppressive, at others sublime, this foursome crosses the arbitrary boundaries created by the faint of heart in order to create a world ex nihilo, intended to be explored by the listener.

Traditional formulaic song structures are of no interest to Paria in writing its newest effort, The Barnacle Cordious. The band attempts a sonic experiment with no hypothesis. The music is an amalgam of instruments coming together in order to produce a cohesive cadre with the emotional impact of a hydrogen bomb. This impact becomes clearer on two instrumental tracks that could be described as powerful, yet not aggressive, further demonstrating the eclectic essence that is Paria.

The Barnacle Cordious makes it evident that Paria has evolved into something far more complex than any previous efforts by the band. Background music this is not. In order to fully perceive the tapestry woven by Paria the listener must do his part in becoming an active participant through listening. Paria uses multifarious themes on the release, at times telling stories studying differentiating characters. Throughout the entirety of The Barnacle Cordious, the lyrics are meant to be an intelligible representation of the basic human emotions acting as a catalyst for the crashing waves of sound -- sounds of anger, hatred, jealously and love.

Paria formed in 2001 in Omaha, Nebraska. The band quickly became recognized for its unmatched live performances. Paria gained a sizeable following locally, which lead to landing opening spots for several national acts. After signing with Black Market Activities in 2005, Paria released its debut full length, Misanthropos. The album was appropriately deemed a veritable mind-fuck. Spazzy, off-time beats met crushing riffs, helping to define Paria as four individual luminaries, which still manage to come together as a cohesive group. Paria has performed alongside such bands as Every Time I Die, The Dillinger Escape Plan, As I Lay Dying and Animosity.
