During their 10-year history, GRAND MAGUS have released 2 demos, 1 split-EP and 4 full-length albums, and have received overwhelmingly positive reviews throughout. Their last opus, “Iron Will” was voted “Album of The Month” in the German Metal Hammer & Rock Hard magazines. Drawing hefty influences from the hand-on-heart grandeur of the NWOBHM and the inspirational mythology of their forbears, GRAND MAGUS are steeped in pre-Christian tales of triumph, vengeance, betrayal, wisdom and death. But GRAND MAGUS also stand for energetic live performances as seen at this year’s European festivals such as Sweden Rock (SE), Hellfest (FR), Wacken (D), Summerbreeze (D) or on tour in Europe with bands like At The Gates, Cathedral, Candlemass, Tyrant, SerpentCult or Electric Wizard.

After a very successful split single with Spiritual Beggars on Southern Lord, Doom-blues power trio GRAND MAGUS see their self titled debut album issued through Rise Above Records/The Music Cartel. Obsessed with classic hard rock, and lyrically inspired by war, struggle, revenge and the power of determination, these Swedish heavyweights unleash a slab of pure ´black magic rock.´
Featuring crushing riffs, laid back grooves, brutal hooks, blues-laden solos and emotional vocals by Janne, the eponymous ´GRAND MAGUS´ is from start to finish a doomy blues fest. The songwriting is inventive and there´s a nice, dry, wood-like quality to the sound. Fans of Spiritual Beggars, Spirit Caravan, The Obsessed and Internal Void will simply love this album, as it sets GRAND MAGUS apart from the average doom band. A most promising debut by one of the finest newcomers on the scene.

MONUMENT:
GRAND MAGUS hail from Sweden. They have a singer who can wail like Bruce Dickinson (IRON MAIDEN), growl like Halford (JUDAS PRIEST) and swagger like Coverdale (WHITESNAKE). They play monstrously heavy guitar riffs that groove, rattle and roll like those of Doom legends KYUSS and KARMA TO BURN. They are unashamedly Heavy Metal and ‘’Monument’’ rocks.
Call them Stoner Rock, call them Doom Metal, call these Metallic messiahs what you damn well wish but GRAND MAGUS are a rare breed of musicians who offer nothing new but deliver some of the most crushing, bulldozing riffs that you’ll hear this year or any other year for that matter.
GRAND MAGUS are not re-inventing the wheel. They sound like BLACK SABBATH although lead singer JB is a class all of his own compared to Ozzy but with infectious workouts like ‘’Ulvaskall (Vargr)’’, ‘’Brotherhood Of Sleep’’ and the awesome ‘’Baptised In Fire’’ all paying homage to the Godfathers of Heavy Metal GRAND MAGUS can be forgiven for their plagiarism.
So if you like riffs that could shake satellites out of orbit look no further than GRAND MAGUS.
