God Dethroned tour blog part 3: North America pt. 2
Susan Gerl of God Dethroned reports in from their North American tour:
Time for a recap of the second and last part of our US tour! These last 12 days simply flew by and we played many cool shows in the meantime. On my birthday we played a very cool show in Seattle! A big thank you to everyone in the crowd for the nice birthday wishes and for wanting to hear so many of our songs so that we ran out of them in the end, haha! The other bands and our tour manager Erin bought me a doughnut (with a very special shape, hehe) and I got a nice birthday card and a bottle of whiskey, which we shared on the bus since we had a very long drive from Seattle to St. Paul that night.

We played a very good gig at Station 4 and met many friendly people there. One day later we played in Milwaukee at the Rave which is an amazing venue with a very beautiful, yet eerie atmosphere at the same time, since it is claimed to have haunted cellars. Opposite the venue was the place where Jeffrey Dahmer used to live and he supposedly got rid of the dead bodies via underground tunnels to the other side of the street, where the Rave is situated, so obviously we did a full tour through the underground tunnels with all the bands during which Matt and Shaun of Woe of Tyrants proved to be really professional touring guides, haha!

Our gigs in Cleveland, Toronto and especially Montreal because of the great crowd went really well.
When we played at the Webster in Hartford there was another band playing in the same venue and they drew this huge crowd of screaming 14 year-old girls which was pretty hilarious because every time they opened their backstage window they all went berserk, hehe!
Glad we don't have fans like that ;-)

On 16 October we played in New York and since we arrived there early we had some time to do some sightseeing which was really interesting. I have never been to New York before, so it was really nice to see all the landmarks, which you usually only see on tv, for real once.
Watch two videos from our NY gig here:

The day after New York we played at the Palladium in Worcester at a festival show with a band I really love: Type O Negative. We played a short but good gig and I met this guy a bit later that night ;-)
(Don’t I look extremely tiny next to him?)

So today is the last day of our US tour. We will play our last show in Rochester tonight and will be arriving in Europe again on Thursday. Then we can relax for one day, see our family and loved ones, sleep in our own beds for one night (wohoo) and the day after we will embark on our 3-week triple headliner tour with Hollenthon and Endstille.
Cheers,

Susan Gerl of God Dethroned issues North American tour blog part 1!
“We are into the first week of our American tour and things have been going pretty smoothly so far. After having relaxed for 6 days at a hotel in Tucson we were all energized and ready to start this tour.

(touring is hard work...)
We played our first show at the Rock in Tucson and met our tourmanager Erin Lynch, aka The Queen of Booze, the guys and girl of Abigail Williams, who we are sharing our tour bus with, and the guys of Woe of Tyrants.

The second day we played in Mesa and the third day in Vegas we went to the Strip, saw lots of casinos and the watershow at the Ballagio hotel. We played our show at the Cheyenne Saloon and met up with the guys of Augury.

(at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas)
The show at the Galaxy Theatre went really well for us and the audience was great!

After a cool show at the Key Club the day after we went for a drink at the legendary Rainbow and since we were in Hollywood we weren't surprised to see any celebrities, but we didn't expect to see this guy ;-)

(together with Ron Jeremy at the Rainbow, LA)
The atmosphere at Thee Parkside in San Francisco was very rock 'n' roll and we played a very good show. We found out afterwards that we had played in front of people from Origin, Stratovarius, who were celebrating a day off, and there was also a member of Whitesnake and Death Angel. I would love to have seen the Golden Gate bridge but sadly we went another way out of the city, so maybe next time.
Our general impression about the US crowd so far is that they are very enthusiastic. We met lots of old and new fans and we are looking forward to playing the rest of the shows.
I'll keep you posted.
Cheers,”

God Dethroned debut new video for “Poison Fog”; North American tour starts this week
Dutch death metal masters, God Dethroned, have just released a new video for the track Poison Fog from Passiondale. The video is complete with explosions, blast beats and plenty of shredding from guitarists Henri Sattler and Susan Gerl. Poison Fog was directed by Maurice Swinkles.
Henri comments: “After many requests to do a video for Poison Fog, here it is. As intense as the song and as gloomy as the lyrics, the video represents it all; Chaos and misery at its best.”
God Dethroned’s War Propaganda World Tour lands in North American this week, starting with Tucson, AZ on Wednesday, September 30th. They will be joined by Abigail Williams, Woe Of Tyrants and Augury. The tour is being sponsored by MetalSucks.net, SMNnews.com and MetalInjection.net. Keep an eye on those sites for updates from Henri Sattler and Susan Gerl as they trek across the country.

"Passiondale is as all out aggressive, confrontational, and downright mean as anything they have ever put out...this is a straight-up kick to the head that leaves a lot of bruises." Outburn Magazine

God Dethroned announce “War Propaganda World Tour 2009”; new video completed
God Dethroned will be assaulting North America for the first time since 2007 on the headlining War Propaganda World Tour 2009 in support of their newest album, Passiondale. Henri Sattler and co. will embark on the coast to coast campaign starting on September 30th. Joining the march will be Abigail Williams, Augury and label mates, Woe Of Tyrants! The tour is being sponsored by MetalSucks.net, SMNnews.com and MetalInjection.net. MetalSucks and SMNnews will be giving away some tickets to shows and MetalInjection will be posting video updates from God Dethroned as they tour across the US. Stay tuned for details as they become available.
Henri Sattler comments on the tour: “Our "Storming the Balkans" tour which we did about a month ago was a test. A test to see if our new band members, Susan and Mike, would be the right people to have in the band for the long tour we have ahead of us. A new world tour starting on September 3rd in Brazil leading us through Peru, Ecuador and Colombia up to Mexico for the first leg of our "War Propaganda World Tour 2009". I'm happy to say that they passed the audition well. On the South American shows, we will be accompanied by Elexorien from Holland and in Colombia also Belphegor will make their appearance. The Mexican shows will be with Entombed, Vital Remains, Master and Lividity o.a.
The second leg of the tour starts on September 30th in Tucson, Arizona with Abigail Williams, Augury and label mates Woe of Tyrants and leads us through the States up to Canada. We are really excited to tour the U.S. again and to promote our latest album "Passiondale", which was released last April. Our last show in the U.S. was in 2007 so we can't wait to see many of our fans again soon!
On October 21st, we head back to Europe for the third leg of our tour with Endstille and Hollenthon.
As some of you may have noticed already, Roel Sanders does not play drums in God Dethroned anymore. The amount of shows we're playing is much more than we expected and unfortunately Roel could not combine this with his private life and other activities anymore. It was hard to say goodbye to him, but we remain good friends as always. We have welcomed Michiel "Mike" van der Plicht as his replacement on the drum throne and we've already done a number of very successful shows with him. Now we look towards the future with confidence again.
See you somewhere on tour.
Cheers,”
Henri

GOD DETHRONED’s new album ‘Passiondale’ available for full stream in its entirety on MetalSucks.net!
Only one week left until GOD DETHRONED’s magnum opus Passiondale will be unleashed upon mankind! All those who can’t wait any longer can now head over to MetalSucks.net where the album will be streamed in its entirety until its release! Direct link to the stream HERE
Mainman Henri Sattler goes a bit in-depth about the musical direction of the new masterpiece Passiondale; “In contradiction to the previous album Passiondale is a lot more extreme and furious also because of the return of Roel Sanders on drums, but still with the typical melodic parts which make the band sound unique among the competition. Roel played on ‘Grand Grimoire’ and ‘Bloody Blasphemy’ as well. Albums that were dominated by blast beats, brutal riffing but also many hymnic parts. It seemed the most logical thing to do, to go back to our early sound, so also Danny Servaes who played keyboards on aforementioned albums participated again and added that touch of mystique which made the songs even more special. The grimness of the war is reflected in the songs and the atmosphere creates a feeling of listening to the soundtrack of a war movie.”
Passiondale will be released on Tuesday April 28th in the US.
Here’s what the press has been saying about Passiondale so far:
“The first proper track, ‘Under a Darkening Sky,’ has memorable vocal lines and a manic, Teutonic-thrash edge; it’s followed by ‘No Man’s Land,’ an improbably catchy double-time speedster, and ‘Poison Fog,’ which nears Emperor levels of soaring blackened metal majesty. In fact, from the album’s beginning to end, God Dethroned have stepped up both their savagery and sense of melody, making for a delicate balancing act that results in some wonderfully indelicate metal.” REVOLVER
“Passiondale is a compact, precise, and immensely rewarding listen, essentially a barbed collection of riffs that you’ll most likely find yourself humming afterward… The melodic tinges are very Heartwork, while the black metal elements are nail bombs occasionally thrown in to put a part or riff over the top (the fierce opening “Under a Darkening Sky” bobs and weaves between the two seamlessly, while the title track swells with an almost In Flames sort of bigness)… Passiondale is a precise yet affecting record that’s not afraid of beauty or sadness, but certainly isn’t preoccupied with it.” MetalSucks.net
“When done right, fast-paced European death metal is unstoppable. The problem is there’s been a lack of it lately when it comes to the quality department. It’s not surprise that it took a veteran group like God Dethroned to kick the scene in the ass again. On the soon to be released Passiondale, the Dutch act drop one piercing guitar riff after the other giving drummer Roel Sanders no choice but to keep his bass drum pedals working overtime. His impressive footwork and blast beats here are nothing short of spectacular... albums this good shouldn’t be ignored.” SMNnews.com
“Passiondale is heavy as all hell with a lot of melody, a touch of clean singing every once in awhile and though the vocals are brutally heavy they are also very audible... The bottom line is that God Dethroned’s Passiondale is not just another blackened death metal album based around satanic overtones and religious revolt. God Dethroned gives us a history lesson and soundtrack to the bloody battle of Passchendaele and it’s an interesting concept album to say the least. If God Dethroned were my history teachers in high school I would have paid a lot more attention. An amazingly catchy, brutally interesting and well put together concept album with fire and fury to match.” MetalMartyr.com

Passiondale is a concept album about the battles and life in the city of Passendale during WWI.
“Ypres and Passendale were the center of war activities with around 900,000 casualties compared to 9 million worldwide. I realized how harsh it must have been there during those 4 years. Passchendaele was the official name of the little village during the war, but since the English speaking armies couldn’t pronounce that, they nicknamed it to: Passiondale.” - Henri Sattler

God Dethroned new line-up & album finished!
God Dethroned has wrapped up work on their new album, Passiondale. Now that they’ve finished, they’ve locked down new guitarist, Susan Gerl.
“A few weeks ago I joined God Dethroned. I'm very excited about this as I've known the band for a long time and even used to play along to some of their songs every now and then and now I can do this for real, which is great of course! I'm very grateful for this opportunity and can't wait to hit the stage with these guys!” - Susan Gerl
Henri Sattler comments:
“You guys already knew that Roel is back in the band after 8 years of absence. Again we have a new band member in the ranks of God Dethroned. Already somewhere in 2008 it became clear that Isaac and the band would follow their own separate paths again. Everything happened for our own private reasons, so we said goodbye as friends. Then we decided to record the new album as a 3 piece and look for a new guitar player later. A few weeks ago we auditioned Susan Gerl (Murder Syndicate) and she proved to be the right person for the band. She has a professional attitude and is 100% a metal head, which is exactly what we were looking for. You can see her live in action at our first show of the year in Den Bosch (Holland) on March 21st.
Last but not least, the new album Passiondale! I would describe it as a fast, brutal & epic soundtrack to a war movie. More news coming soon. Cheers!”
Passiondale is scheduled for an April 27th release in North America.
