History:
Formed in the summer of 2005 by Dylan Ruskin after parting from his main band Burn at the Stake, BRAIN DRILL was originally meant to be a side project. Dylan began looking for drummers that could actually play death metal, and not just claim they could. Enter Marco Pitruzella former drummer of Vital Remains, Vile, Atrocious Hysteria, and a few other extreme metal bands. After a few months of jamming Steve Rathjen was then later put onto vocals. BRAIN DRILL entered Castle Ultimate Studios with producer Zack Ohren on March 1st 2006 to release their first 6 song demo. All 6 of the drum tracks were done the day before recording in one take by Marco. There was no editing and none of the drum tracks were done over. Marco busted it all in a matter of less than 2 hours with no help from any computers or metronomes during the process! The next day the guitars and bass were added by Dylan. On May 9th vocalist Steve Rathjen entered Castle Ultimate Studios to lay down the vocal tracks. He had only 4 days to learn the songs and lyrics and laid them all down in fewer than 3 hours. In the winter of 2006 Jeff Hughell was then added to the band as the new bassist.
Update:
In 2008 BRAIN DRILL parted ways with drummer Marco Pitruzella and bassist Jeff Hughell and replaced them with Joe Bondra on drums and Ivan Munguia on bass. Ivan has played bass for metal acts such as Carnivorous and Odious Mortem. "I'm stoked to be playing with such high caliber musicians, in a band as crushing and talented as BRAIN DRILL. Soon, we'll be out on the road laying waste to crowds, and delivering some sick new tunes" comments Ivan. Joe Bondra hails from Pennsylvania and blew the band away with his ability to play tracks off Apocalyptic Feasting as if he had written the parts himself. “I always thought that BRAIN DRILL was one of the most brutal bands in the death metal scene, and now I am extremely excited to be part of that band and I am even more amped to be able to start playing shows and work on our new material” comments Joe Bondra.
To date BRAIN DRILL has shared the stage with bands such as: Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus, The Black Dahlia Murder, Necrophagist, Job for a Cowboy, Unmerciful, All Shall Perish, Decrepit Birth, and many other extreme metal bands. In addition BRAIN DRILL has also managed to land the #1 spot on the MySpace grindcore band charts and #7 on the MySpace death metal charts. Currently, BRAIN DRILL is hard at work on the follow up to 2008’s highly acclaimed Apocalyptic Feasting.
