The album - mixed and mastered by Plec at Panic Room Studios - features artwork by Mark Riddick, as well as by Sven de Caluwe of the mighty ABORTED, and nine epic songs of skull crushing death metal mayhem and darkness. It feels like we've taken everything we do to a whole new level on this one, and we can't wait to get out on the road and play these songs live. This new material is INTENSE, although at the same time a lot more varied and dynamic than what we've done in the past. Keep your eyes and ears open friends. Death! Destruction!! GOATS!"
About the band:
AS YOU DROWN formed in Borås, Sweden in 2003. Inspired by the speed and relentless brutality of contemporary death metal and atmosphere and straightforward structure of the genres predecessors. Reflection, the debut album from AS YOU DROWN was recorded at AYD Studio in Borås; mixed and mastered by Christian Silver at Studio Mega in Varberg Sweden (THE CROWN, OLD MAN'S CHILD), and released worldwide via Metal Blade Records in July 2009. Reflection received critical acclaim from underground publications worldwide, with special attention given to the band's ability to appeal to a broad extreme metal audience. In spring 2010, AS YOU DROWN hit the road with VADER on the Blitzkrieg 5 Europe and UK tour as the direct support artist in addition to appearing at several underground festivals in Europe during the summer of that same year.

Starting today, GunShyAssassin.com is premiering the track Your Loyal Betrayer from Swedish extreme death metallers AS YOU DROWN’s forthcoming album Rat King (out 10/11 in North America). The successor to the bands 2009 debut Reflection, Rat King was recorded at the bands own AYD Studio in Borås and was mixed and mastered by Plec (WATAIN, SCAR SYMMETRY, MISERATION) at Panic Room Studio in Skövde in July 2011. Lyrically, the album explores the medieval German folk phenomena of rat kings, which were associated with plagues that devastated the European continent.

Swedish extreme death metallers AS YOU DROWN have announced Rat King as the title of their upcoming sophomore album to be released October 7/10 worldwide via Metal Blade Records. The successor to the bands 2009 debut Reflection, Rat King was recorded at the bands own AYD Studio in Borås and was mixed and mastered by Plec (WATAIN, SCAR SYMMETRY, MISERATION) at Panic Room Studio in Skövde in July 2011. AS YOU DROWN in writing mode for second album!
Swedish death metallers AS YOU DROWN commenced writing material for the bands as of yet untitled sophomore album to be released next year via Metal Blade Records worldwide. The follow up to Reflection will be recorded at the bands own AYD Studio in Borås Sweden.
The band recently commented on the new material and the writing process: "Since coming home from our tour with VADER and DIVINE CHAOS earlier this year, we've been working hard on some new material. Right now we've got our sights set on recording some time in the spring, which means the record will hopefully be out in the early fall. The material is sounding very promising/menacing so far, so prepare yourselves for a tidal wave of death metal insanity coming your way…
Also, we're obviously looking to do some serious touring in 2011, stay tuned for dates. We pretty much can't wait to get this beast back on the road and we expect to see all of you crazy fuckers out there!"
AS YOU DROWN's debut album Reflection was released in July 2009 via Metal Blade worldwide. In addition to appearing at multiple open air festivals during summer the band toured Europe with VADER as part of the Blitzkrieg 5 Tour in February. As You Drown’s goal as a band is to combine the speed and brutality of the modern death metal scene with the atmosphere and catchy songwriting of its old-school predecessor. The band cites a number of outside influences and the result is an always raging, yet perpetually changing, storm of anger, brutality and finesse. Their debut album, Reflection, will appeal to fans of Decapitated, Cannibal Corpse & Behemoth as much as it does to fans of Job for a Cowboy, Suicide Silence & Whitechapel.

As You Drown was formed in Boras, Sweden in the winter of 2003/2004 when the average age of the band was only 17 years. As You Drown’s goal as a band is to combine the speed and brutality of the modern death metal scene with the atmosphere and catchy songwriting of its old-school predecessor. The band cites a number of outside influences and the result is an always raging, yet perpetually changing, storm of anger, brutality and finesse. Their debut album, Reflection, will appeal to fans of Decapitated, Cannibal Corpse & Behemoth as much as it does to fans of Job for a Cowboy, Suicide Silence & Whitechapel.
As You Drown recorded the album in their own studio. The band comments: “Since the recording of the latest self-produced demo went beyond expectations, we came to the conclusion of building our own recording studio”.
