ACROSS THE SUN's Sam Hafer debuts "Separate Ways" guitar lesson featured on Ultimate-Guitar.com
Across The Sun's resident shredder, Sam Hafer, recently shot a video guitar lesson for the band's cover of Journey's classic hit, "Separate Ways". The song includes the catchy leads present in the original version, as well as some flashy solos and heavy metal-ized versions of different parts of the song. To see how Sam pulls it all off, head to Ultimate-Guitar.tv to watch the lesson.
Before The Night Takes Us is available everywhere now and has been incredibly well received by fans and press. The album was recorded with Daniel Castleman at Lambesis Studios in San Diego, CA and released March 15th, 2011. Footage from their recording session with Castleman is available to watch on Metal Blade TV HERE.
"[A] captivating mix of heartfelt lyrics and heavy melodic guitars…weaved from dexterous sweep arpeggios, powerful vocals" RevolverMag.com
"Stuttering guitars and tasteful keys unravel the group's musical red carpet for – those pipes! Unapologetically placed to the front of the mix, the vocals of Brandon Davis both dazzle and distress, similar in delivery to Mutiny Within's Chris Clancy and Killswitch Engage's Howard Jones." TheNewReview.net
"Getting ten tracks up and down in 40 minutes is an impressive feat, particularly when there is so much material packed into each chunk. No song runs over five minutes –Across the Sun's songwriting certainly is focused - and yet each cut has enough twists and surprises to seem like a ten minute epic." 4/5 Metal Underground

ACROSS THE SUN release first single; unveil album art for "Before The Night Takes Us"
"Like" ACROSS THE SUN's Facebook page to hear "Song for the Hopeless"
Portland, Oregon's Across The Sun recorded their Metal Blade Records debut album, Before The Night Takes Us, with producer Daniel Castleman at Lambesis Studios in San Diego, CA. The album is the culmination of seven years of recording, touring and polishing their sound. Daniel Castleman held each member to a high standard in the studio; "It was an amazing learning experience; no previous Across The Sun recording process has ever been this in depth", adds vocalist Brandon Davis. The individual performances are better than any previous Across The Sun release. Guitarist Sam Hafer emphasizes, "This record takes everything that Across The Sun was and expands it; the musicianship, the tonal palette, the dynamics and song structure were all things we pushed into new and challenging territory. The result is the greatest body of music we have produced to date." Their performance, coupled with Castleman's stellar mixing/mastering, produced a "big" sounding album. Everything from Davis' clean vocals, Hafer's guitar solos, and Murray's keys have an engrossing and epic breadth.
Fans can now get a taste of the album via facebook.com/acrossthesun. The first single, Song for the Hopeless, is available via "Liking" their page. This first song is exemplary of the rest of the album in that it showcases Across The Sun's musical peaks and valleys and some of their most heavy and melodic moments. Head HERE to "Like" and listen now!

Portland, OR's ACROSS THE SUN signs with Metal Blade Records!
Portland, Oregon melodic metal act, Across The Sun, has signed with Metal Blade Records. Across The Sun has spent the last four years touring across the US and promoting their three EPs: This War (2006), Storms Weathered (2008), and their most recent effort, Pestilence & Rapture (2009), which was released via indie label, Authentik Ink.
Across The Sun vocalist Brandon Davis comments: "We are beyond ecstatic to be signing with Metal Blade Records! They are coming up on 30 years as the best metal label on the planet, and we are honored to now be a part of that history. This really is a dream come true for us, as we have made this band our lives' work. It's so amazing seeing our hard work and dedication culminate with this once in a lifetime opportunity, we are truly blessed. Our upcoming tour promises to be a great time every single night, we hope to see you all at a show this summer and beyond!" Drummer Alan Ashcraft adds: "Metal Blade is a great fit for us, because their familiarity with metal music is unrivaled. Across The Sun is at its strongest, and is capable of anything. With such a great label behind us, we're confident that metal fans will have some amazing things to look forward to."
Across The Sun has built a dedicated underground fan base through hundreds of shows and plain old hard work. That work continues this summer as the band hits the road once again with Throw The Fight, Gwen Stacy, and more, as well playing Transmission Festival with August Burns Red, Vanna, Living Sacrifice, etc. on August 6th and 7th. Their full schedule is below and on their myspace page.
Metal Blade president Mike Faley comments: "Heavy, Melodic, Brutal, Dynamic" are only a few ways to describe Across The Sun. With recording set for this year and touring next year, Across The Sun will be a band that demands your attention."
About Across The Sun:
Since their inception in 2004, Across The Sun has become one of the hardest working bands in the northwest. In only a few short years, they've released three EPs, garnered both local and national media attention, as well as received radio airplay in and outside of their home region. Their hard work has created a legitimate buzz and had led them to play on bigger and better stages throughout the US, including New England Metal and Hardcore Fest 2010, The Loch Ness Monstour 2010 with No Bragging Rights, and many more. The future is bright for this young, eager and genuinely talented group of musicians from Portland.
